My thoughts on the Definitive Technology BP9000 series speakers. Today we take an in-depth look at the BP9060, CS9040, CS9080, and A90 Dolby Atmos add-on speakers. How do they compare to my Klipsch speakers? Let's see how they stack up.

Man, this channel grew since the last I checked. I have always loved your videos. They were some of the first that I watched when I just started getting into home theater. Awsome channel.

I'm glad you did a review on these speakers, and I am glad you actually own them I would like you to get the 90s and tell us how you like those, after this review I feel I am going to pull the trigger on these there's hardly any reviews of somebody who actually own them but I'm glad you do. Thanks for the review and keep up the good work.

Good review. I've had Definitive Technology speakers (same set, flagship at the time) for 25 years, and I love them. They truly fill the room with sound in a realistic way so that you feel you are in the middle of the action, especially with DT surrounds. As for that pop, don't worry about it. Mine still pop when I turn the woofers on.

I need to sell my deftech to upgrade to emotiva they are so much cleaner and crisper the ribbon tweeter is next to unbeatable. this is where deftech has issues. and my center ct100 (ya its old) is next to useless.

I have a Definitive Technology soundbar/sub setup in my living room and it sounds great. I got them because I went to the Best Buy Magnolia section and asked to hear their best soundbars, and this one stood out. It’s good to hear the company has a range of what appear to be really solid products.

I been a fan for years of Def Tech. Bought the 8000 series on clearance when the 9000 line came out. They’re clear and balanced just like you described the 9000s. You intrigued me with the larger center. Might have to get one. I have the 8040 with no sub. Great review!

@@chrisloveless3087 8060 but kind of wish I had gone with the 8080. I can’t use the powered subwoofer though, as I get a low hum of interference whenever the TV has a bright screen. I haven’t been able to get rid of that despite trying several things.

I have a small youtube channel KingdomTek, and I have had the BP9080's for a while, I think your channel is great but I always wondered why u never checked out def tech thier sound stage is crazy, now u inspired my next review it will be on the BP9080's and cs9080 and dont forget to get your self some Sr 9080's for the rear and surrounds.

I’ve had my BP 7004’s for well over 10 years and my CS 8080 for 8 years. Absolutely love them. I actually unplugged the center channel, as I feel that too much bass undertone on the dialog channel stripped away a bit of the vocal clarity at times. There is plenty of bass coming from the two built in subs from the 7004s. Plenty for me anyway lol. Great video! You don’t see many people talking about Def Tec these days.

Nice, I've been rocking a full set of the last gen BP8040s in 7.2.2 with the SR8040 surrounds. Since I couldn't cut in Atmos speakers, went with white DefTech AW5500s that I could ceiling mount, they match the sound signature pretty spot on since they have similar tweeters.

I can't imagine what kind of sound you got from the 9080's. I went to Best buy and heard the 9020's in person today and holy freaking hell, the bass was insanely crisp, punchy and accurate AF, 8" subwoofers are plenty big enough to fill your living room up.

I’ve been running the BP 9040’s and CS 9060 for my front soundstage paired with a SVS PC 2000 and have been loving the combination. I think it would make an interesting follow up video to see the difference between using the Def Tech w/ LFE input vs. no LFE to The front soundstage. Also look at the difference between setting the speakers between small and large on the AVR.

Funny story about how I ended up buying my DT 9060s was that I had actually went to Best Buy to buy klipsch towers which are on sale every Black Friday and I went into magnolia and heard these and was amazed. Price was night and day difference and at the time, I purchased the 9020s which I upgraded shortly to the 9060s

I have been using Definitive Technology speakers for over 10 years and absolutely love them! My center channel is older so it doesn't have the built in amplifier like my tower speakers do. That pop sound you mentioned can be jarring but I only hear it if we lose power. I keep my tower speakers plugged in with continuous power so I rarely hear that pop sound. Great review, it reminded me of why I love these speakers so much.

Great review. I have always had DefTech speakers, right now I am running the 9060s and the CS9040 center. My back surrounds are the SR9080s and my side surround are SR9040s. My ceiling speakers are the pro monitor 1000 satellite speakers. The are mounted pointing down to the listening area. My subs though are SVS Pro 2000 x 2. I have run the towers with LFE and small and without LFE and large or full range. So far I prefer the full range and let the SVS drive the low end.

I really enjoy your reviews. Not a lot of fluff - just the facts. I like the idea if a powered tower and I wonder if there would be a big difference between running them full range vs. using the sub out from the receiver to the LFE. Obviously better for movies, but I am concerned about the affect on music. I would love to see a review comparing the Def Tech to a similar Golden Ear.

Chris....so glad you did this video. I've had the BP9060 fronts and center for almost two years and I love them and have wondered if you were every gonna get into them or check em out. Glad you did and that they are gonna be part of your new set up. I was wondering how you connected the BP speakers to your AV receiver? Did you do the standard def tech recommended set up with speakers set to large/no sub or did you use the LFE output or some other set up? I would love to know so that I can play around with some different set up options as well. Thanks!!!

I ran the def tech 8040 towers, center and surrounds with my 4 svs elevations in a 5.1.4 setup for couple years . Definitely a nice full sound field. Filled the room amazingly, but after I start to play with SVS prime and ultra speakers they were more accurate sounding/clarity, but didn't fill as well, but easily fixed by going to 7.1.4 . So now just making my own custom bookshelves for a 13.1/7.1.6 setup with dual subs.

Great review!!! Glad you're loving them as much as I do! I was afraid you weren't going to like them as there are a lot of Def Tech haters out there. That's crazy what you said about the SVS Ultra subs. They have been on my list to eventually get because (as many do) love bass, but dang they look huge and I'm not sure my space can accommodate them and have thought about getting a SuperCube 8000 instead. I have the BP9080, CS9080, and SR9080 and love the sound. The bass is good...enough LOL!

As a fairly new owner of DefTech, I have to admit that they've definitely gained a fan for life. Even though my speakers are the much older BP 7002'S, the first time I heard them I was absolutely blown away. I drove 3.5 hours north to Dallas and the gentleman had them setup in his garage. He gave me the go to crank them and I felt I was transported into a concert! I too, have that random pop when the amp kicks on and off from time to time. I've been curious about the newer models, but they will have to wait until I can afford such an upgrade.

Great review Chris I’ve had def techs for 15 yrs . No one gets it not one company that I know of can build a center channel like them . The sub adds the richness and fullness of a voice not all voices are tenors . The center should be able to play close to full range it has to be dynamic . I’m currently using cs9060 .

I have had the same setup now for about a year and a half, the amps for the sub can be a problem. I have had to replace mine . But as long as they are under warranty Sound United will replace them free of charge. I have not had a problem with them since I went to not using the LFE and run them large and full range. The subs still put out plenty of base . But I do let the SVS subs handle the LFE.

Def Tech Floorstanding Speakers with the built-in subs are awesome. I have a pair of Pro Tower 400s that are over 20 years old. The powered dual 6.5-inch subs each tower fill the whole room with tight bass. The passive radiators on the newer models are a nice touch because the Pro Towers produce a lot of port noise at high volumes.

After much research and very positive reviews, I decided to purchase the DT 9080s for my Christmas present. I found these speakers, brand new, at a discounted price, and all I can say is I'm in audio paradise ! The highs & mids are crystal clear and the bass is AWESOME!!! I have a basic 2 channel setup but I drive these monsters with an Emotiva xpa3 amp, 300 wats per channel, and movies and especially music have to be heard to be believed. They can play EXTREMELY loud without sacrificing any clarity and the bass section, powered by a 450 watt internal amp connected to a 12in woofer and 2 12in bass radiators in each speaker, shakes the foundation of my house to it's knees ! They also have the dolby atmos speakers built in, one 51/4 midrange and a 1in tweeter, but haven't used them as of yet. All I can say is I LUV these speakers ! Btw, they do have an annoying thump, sometimes, when powering up; the only negative, so far.

I had an opportunity to to sit in a very comfortable leather chair and listen to a Definitive surround system at a Magnolia (Best Buy) several years ago and was a bit stunned at just how bright the speaker system was while hearing the amazingly clean and tight the base was. I don't recall if Ihad my Klipsch 550s back then. That was in the mid 1990s. At the time I owned a low end Klipsch center channel and a great pair of Infinity rear channels. With the exception of the Klipsch 52C center channel now, the rest of the speakers are original. I gave my sub to my son when I moved from a house to an apt. While I was blown away by the Definitive speakers, the cost back then seemed stratospheric. I still have no retreat with my current system which is operating perfectly. I did recently upgrade to a Yamaha 4K receiver, the greatly improved center channel and a Sony 4K BlueRay player, along with a Samsung QLED 55” TV.. I’m a happy senior citizen. (And former audio file).

Nice Vid.. I am actually borrowing my brother-In-Law's older Def Tech Speakers.. BP7000SCs for my LR and built in subs.. which were the flag ships back then.. They are very nice speakers and fill my dedicated home theater I just finished a few months back which has some relevance to the speakers you are reviewing. Personally, up firing atmos speakers in my opinion is not something I'd consider but I am sure some don't want to cut holes and I guess its a decent compromise. I am just waiting until I get my Atlantic Technology 8600e LRs to compare them. Tho I am using the 8600e Center channel with these Def tech BP7000SCs because I didn't have a Def tech center to use. I did think about going Def Tech at one point but I am most likely gonna use the AT set up I am doing for the 7.2.4... Great review!!

Really nice review! I purchased a new set of DefTech BP30's for front/rear channels and a CLR2000 center back in '98. Each tower has (4) 6.5" drivers and (2) 1" aluminum dome tweeters, 2 drivers and 1 tweeter on the front and the same configuration on the back of each towet. The center has (2) 6.5" drivers and (1) Tweeter. That's (18) mid/bass drivers and (9) tweeters. The Definitives with built in subs will eventually have amp failure. Basic sound engineering proves smaller drivers and less of them can't compare to DT's original line up. Why they choose to go with their current line is beyond logical. I just added 2 SVS subs, and I will never change my setup. I am speechless when it comes to their performance with music and HT, simply stunning.

Very interesting design, especially the center speaker. I guess it's safe to say you preferred these to your Klipsch setup.

For the last 4 years I had used the BP 9020's with the CS 9040. Due to some remodeling going on at the house, I now have a new room that is larger and thus allowed me to upgrade the surround sound. I upgraded to the BP 9060's and the CS 9080. I have temporarily made the 9020's the surround sound speakers and I think they are overkill as they drown out the fronts. I have some sr-9040's I've ordered to be the surrounds, but I think I will change them out for the sr-9080's. I couldn't agree with you more. This setup, these speakers, are fantastic. I LOVE watching movies, and this enables me to be fully emersed into the movies. Even my wife and kids, whom weren't happy about the decision for a theater room now agree. Now, I have to upgrade the sub. My single Martin Logan Dynamo 700 isn't sufficient for the balance.

I'm currently running the Def Tech 8080 12 inch front towers in my Atmos system. I LOVE THEM, not only for movies, but you CAN NOT beat them for 2.0 music. Satellites and Subs which I've run in the past sound great, but, are difficult to blend the frequency between the sats and subs, always seemed there was something missing. But with the Def Tech 8080 there is perfect blend of frequency. I run mine full range with the rear bass volume control at 12:00. I also eq'd them with my Onkyo receiver to cut the 25hrz out due to walls rattling. I also utilize a 1000wt Velodyne subwoofer in the rear for movies. So, for 2.0 music the 8080 are perfectly tuned with a smooth blend and for Atmos movies the rear sub helps with additional low end. Sweet Sweet Sweet!!!! EDIT: Also, another reviewer mentioned to pull them out from the wall about a foot and toe them in 22 degrees, this is the correct placement.

How was the towers bass next to the SVS? It would seem like the subs would overpower the tower subs. 🤔 what was your observations?

Great Review! What receiver would you use with 2- BP 9060 (with A90s) and a SVS utra center channel ? I found that BP9060 have RMS Power-150 watts and Peak Power Handling-300 watts (subwoofer amp power 300 watts) Will Denon AVR-X3700H work with my planned setup above which has 105Watt X 9 channels? Price wise this is the highest I could go for a reciever. I saw your other video for the receiver selection. 150 watts is way more than this Denon's 105 watt per channel.

Hello Chris. Thanks for the great review video. I recently bought a pair of the bp9060's to match with my cs9060. Since they've been discontinued I got an amazing deal. My question is how did you choose to connect them? Just speaker wire, or did you use the LFE input? Set to Large or Small?
@jeremybentham04
@jeremybentham04 Год назад
Don’t use lfe. Def tech recommends u set to large. If u use lfe, set to small. But unless u nerd out with graphs and mics, just set to large, crossover at 80, and let the 9060s do the work

Do you find there's a sweet spot for wall spacing on the rear firing speakers?

What is that console called that your center channel is sitting on? I want something like that for my theatre room but I can't find that.

I have their center channel and have loved that extra mid bass if you would. Unfortunately I don't have a receiver that that is good enough for atmos (same with my playing devices) but that is soon to change. Still don't think I want to get rid of the cerwin LS-12s that I have but might need to upgrade those sometime soon. Also been looking to do the SVS PB16 (not duel due to my room size, but yeah we shall see.. love all the vids and break downs and maybe you could do a HT setup with limits on budget. so do a 12x12x8 room give budgets of unlimited - to 30k, 20k, 15k, 10k, 5k, and could you do it for under 2k. that would be cool to see your pics of audio to visual.. keep up the great vids man cheers.

Hi, Chris, I wanted to share a great story about what transpired recently. My friend and I were watching some of your videos and we landed on this one for your review of the Def Tech's 9060's. I had been running Klipsch and he was running Jamo's. After your review, we went out on a limb and listened to a set in a showroom. Needless to say we're a little broker now. Your review was spot on and we are so impressed with your recommendation. Would you mind sharing how you setup your AVR with these? Did you utilize any auto room calibration or set them up manually? I was speaking along the lines of AutoEQ or Audessy? Again, thanks for the great videos and sound advice (no pun intended).

IKEA, the Besta tv stand. But it doesn’t come that way. You have to select the parts to make it. Smoke glass doors etc.

Chris, I'm assuming you set them up as Large without the LFE line. When you run them with the SVS subs, will you be keeping them as Large or switch to Small/80hz?
