I have a pair of BP 2004s that I bought feom a stereo shop back in 2005 I think, I have the center channel speaker and two rear surround speakers. I have them hooked up to a Yamaha DSP A1 amplifier. The sound is absolutely amazing. I never get tired of listening to them with movies.

DT is slept on. I just bought some pretty darn expensive towers and I still miss my Mythos ST occasionally. I’m glad to hear your 2004’s have been pumping out the tunes for nearly 20 years. I’d say you got your money’s worth. Haha

Here you go again, taking me down memory lane! I had a full Def Tech setup a few years ago, before I moved to Martin Logan Motions (BP8s, CLR 2002, SR9080s, PM 800s). I really enjoyed the full, wide soundstage of the bipolar towers. But the Pro Monitor 800 &1000s failed me as atmos height channels. They distorted during scenes in Godzilla: KOTM. I knew I had to upgrade after that, lol. I ended up selling my full set for about $700 to a buddy of mine. He's enjoying them now with a set of RSL Speedwoofers. I might have missed this, but I recall Def Tech customer service being quite stellar. Even though they have amp failures (what company doesn't, I'm looking at you, SVS!), as long as they can make up for it with spare parts and great customer service, then you really have to add extra points for that, imo. Keep up the great work, sir.

Hey my man! BP8 are awesome speakers. When I worked retail many moons ago, my boss tasked me with buying a pair of tower speakers for the showroom. This was a dream job for me as I got paid to audition speakers at Magnolia, that I could never afforded. After milking my audition time, I ended up bringing back a pair of BP8’s:) The CLR2002 was my favorite definitive center as I preferred unpowered centers. Thank you again for all the support here, I truly appreciate it!

I'm a bit north of you in Mount Vernon, and I too have found some great deals on used DT stuff. I really liked the BP8. Haven't tried any of the powered stuff from them, but I do see them come up on CL. Not sure if you are aware of ADS, but my current 1290's are really good...

Great channel! I brought a pair BP30’s in 1999 for $1300 new during a audio store closing sale. Also got a pair of BP20’s ten years ago off Craigslist for $200 and a CLR2000 for $150 on eBay in 9.5 condition. I’m 50/50 music& movies and IMO they sound as good or better than systems I’ve heard at five times the price. The bi-polar sound isn’t for everyone, but with this system it’s like being at a live concert. They really shine when powered with the Emotiva XPA-5 gen1 that I scored at an estate sale five years ago for $200!

@blazermdx Год назад
Thank you for the compliment! It sounds like we are cut from the same cloth! Some of those deals are amazing and it sounds like you’ve built yourself one hell of a system. I’f you give those big BP towers some room to breathe, they would shock most reading this comment. The CLR2000 is the weak link but that’s not because it’s bad, it’s because your towers are just very good. Thank you for sharing!
@maxwired2235
@maxwired2235 Год назад
@@blazermdx You're so right about giving the BPs room to breath, I wish my room was much larger. To tell you how great DefTech was before they were sold, I had a Super Cube III that I bought on Ebay and it died 3 times and Chet from DT sent me new amps each time. It died a fourth time and he sent me a new SC4000 for $100! A few years ago I got an incredible open box deal on an SVS PC-2000. My house shakes and I'm happy, but my neighbors... not so much!
@blazermdx
@blazermdx Год назад
@@maxwired2235 Yeah, close neighbors and bass aren’t a good combo. Haha I’ve felt with DT customer support over the years with excellent results. Unfortunately, I’ve heard that they needed to tighten things up, as people were abusing their good will. That’s just what I’ve read though, no proof to back this up but I’ve also read it enough, to be aware of it. I love SVS PC subs, I’ve owned a few. The PC4000 is on my short list, for potential sub upgrades.

They do look pretty cool with the socks pulled down but the wood isn’t finished to very high standards. They would look just fine in a darker room but you would notice some finish imperfections, if you looked. Thanks for stopping by, my friend!

Love these speakers for Home Theater. I got the same towers, with center channel, and a Yamaha Rx-Z7 for 500 about 5 yrs ago. I’ve had many other speakers come and go (B&W 684, Athena’s, Energy XL) and these have remained as my go to for movies. Have a pair of Polk LSIM’s that I love for music but I’ll be hanging onto the definitives.
@blazermdx

Definitive Technology makes about the best bang for buck speakers out there, especially if you don’t have room for subs. I actually connected with a guy that preferred the BP7001 SC towers over some VERY high end B&W towers. Needless to say, he was a very happy camper when he grabbed my 7001’s, and sold off his B&W for a pretty hefty profit. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, I really appreciate it!

@@blazermdx totally understand! I have a 1 yr old now, so I rarely get to even take my speakers to 11 anymore. But your channel is SUPER relatable right now because my budget (married, own a house, had a kid) limits me to find FBM deals. I built a system with Infinity towers, Energy sub, and Boston Acoustics center and rears for only $300 total. Thanks again for the great content!

I have the original BP20 and BP10 towers. The 20s can dip low af, to where I thought my subs (svs nsd-12) was being utilized; they also love plenty of current (500 watts). Anyhow, I enjoyed the subs when I owned one and it was functioning (plaqued with issues) , but not within the speaker cabinet, because the amps are questionable at best, and there's only a 1 year warranty...so, I guess they know their amps have sub-par reliability.
@blazermdx
@blazermdx Год назад
I had those BP-20 many moons ago. They definitely have some serious bass but I’m surprised to hear you barely noticed that SVS. What did you have everything crossed over at? Also, I thought SVS still had their 5 year warranty back then, but I could also be wrong. Either way, you have great taste in speakers and subs:)

@@blazermdx I mis-wrote as I can definitely hear and feel the SVS subs...Eventhough sealed and musical, they still fill and vibrate my room and adjacent areas walls. My issue was with an older definitive subs amp plate and their 1 year warranty.

Great job on saving those awesome speakers from hitting a landfill. Unfortunately, mostly due to age, DT amps seem to becoming a larger and larger issue. They are definitely worth saving, especially for such little money invested. $2,500 is too much for BP-2000, in my opinion. They are awesome speakers, no doubt about it, but I’ve seen many pairs sell for less. What SuperCube did you grab?
@Star3
@Star3 2 года назад

@blazermdx 2 года назад
Great work on getting that SuperCube repaired! In my market, I would think $400 - $500 is a fair price on a PB-2000, if it’s fully functional and in good shape. With the recent SVS price increase, people will be asking more.
@Star3
@Star3 2 года назад
@@blazermdx 400-500 for the pair ? dang that would be a deal. i've been enjoying my frankestien set up and that's with a 80% working equipment. i narrowed down the fault on both towers to the preamp circuit, just need to find the IC that is failing and then it will be back to full power
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 2 года назад
That would be the price I would expect to pay, for a single used PB-2000. The 2nd hand SVS market is strong here. Someone just listed a SB1000 for $400 and it will probably sell.

In all honesty, the 2nd hand audio market seems to be drying up. I’m just not seeing or getting the types of deals that I used to. You’re probably right though, I probably have a little better access to deals, due to the population difference. With that said, I’ve made the 180 mile drive to Portland a few times, for the right deal. Cheers, my friend to the south:)

I haven’t used speakers in 20 years. Except for sound bars, Bluetooth and Amazon Studio. Do they still require an amplifier or it’s all built into the speakers now? I don’t want to have another amplifier but I love a great sound.
@blazermdx
@blazermdx 2 года назад
Unfortunately, this set of speakers requires a receiver/amplifier, to use them. The subs in the towers are powered but you will need a receiver to power the mids/highs and the rest of the speakers. If you are looking for good sound and you don’t want to use a receiver, look at the JBL and AudioEngine powered speakers. Both brands, among others, are fully powered so you won’t need a receiver.
@Marian1st.
@Marian1st. 2 года назад
@@blazermdx That is great. Are they bookshelf type of speakers? I would love to have some good speakers. I had enough of the Bluetooth ones. It’s like every time I want to hear good sound I need to put on my headphone. Would be nice to watch a movie and hear good sound. I have a Yamaha 109 sound bar for my TV. I like it because it’s low profile , but It’s time for an upgrade. I also have a Denon HEOS and Amazon Studio. I was looking for a budget friendly 5.1 or less in the $200 to $300 range. They don’t have to be new either. I think you get better value when your buy used with this budget. I’ll check JBL. I have some of their Bluetooth speakers.
