I've had 10 greyhounds so far, down to my last two, fostered about 15 in the last 22 years. They are by far the best breed ever to own. Very laid back, very comical, silly and goofy. Some love to roo and will just break out in a roo session for no reason, just because they can. They are also the biggest drama queens ever. They give out the GSOD, aka greyhound scream of death for the smallest little booboo and after you just about have a hart attack checking them to see what happened, they are off running or playing again. They make the best family pets because of the way they were handled and trained from puppies until they retired. They are very addicting, once you adopt one, you will have to adopt more. You just can't stop.
I'm so excited as I prepare my home for my first greyhound! My vet is ready to give a good reference, and crates to toys, beds, leashes, almost everything he/she will need has been purchased (just awaiting the size, so I can get coats, etc), and I'm even sleeping on and under the dog blankets and beds to get my scent on them. Everything will be as near to perfect for my new family member once the grey arrives. And as soon as I'm able to have the large kennel/run built in my yard, greyhound number two will be invited. I'm commenting here, because I can't contain my excitement, and my friends and family are probably tired of hearing about it. Still redecorating/rearranging to make my home a good dog space...then the agency picks my dog for me. My teeth are chattering like an excited grey!
Perfect timing Gayle. I watched your video just before my gorgeous boy Dante arrived. I have waited so long for my own dog. He is a real goofball. He has fallen off the sofa 3 times but he didn't hurt himself. Just dented his pride. lol. He is amazingly sweet and such a sensitive soul. He keeps sticking his snoot in all sorts of places. He is a big lad but he's a gentle giant. I love him sooo much. I hope you are are keeping well. Take care and stay safe. x
Is Dante your first dog ever? I didn’t grow up with dogs, and was so happy once I got my first one; couldn’t believe what I’d been missing out on! It sounds like it’s going great already!
@@GreyhoundHomecare I had dogs when I was a kid. Now I'm in my 50's I felt ready to take on the responsibility of owning one. I wanted to adopt 2 however I now want to help my local rescue centre by fostering. I then get the best of both worlds.
Lily roaching in the crate is about as relaxed as a dog gets. I love your Milkbone rating scale! Agreed on the x2 helpfulness rating. Doodad will excitedly step on our feet and shoes as we try to put them on before walks. A bit counterproductive :)
Thank you for such a fun comment. I’m sure Doodad thinks she’s helping, somehow. They do like to crowd you, don’t they? One of our nicknames for Lily is Surround-Hound!
we have two Greyhounds and when it comes to affection they are off the charts... they are the most affectionate dogs I have ever known... true they are not aggressive, but my wife told me that on a couple of occasions they growled at salesmen, who at our front door where aggressive with her
As a human, I can identify with the "smart-dumb" label! Sal and I are really well-matched. :) YES, Sal is delightful as a quadrupedal family member. I agree with your milk bone ratings and find Sal to be incredibly emotionally-attuned. He is 77 pounds of skippy/happy (mom's home from work, can sense about to go to in the car/to the park) , 77 pounds of scared (fireworks and rain storms - tries to fit his giraffe self underneath beds), and 77 pounds of sad violin when he's needing more attention. His coloring is similar to Lily's - on walks, many tell us how attractive he is and I always reply, thank you, and mention that his disposition is just as wonderful and attractive, as well. I adopted him when he was 2 and the rescue kennel told me about a racing website - I think it was Greyhound Data. I used to check it because I wanted to make sure his siblings were adopted post-track (I love greyhounds, yet am skittish about how they come into our lives). I think his 5 siblings were all adopted. His litter in December 2010 were all named "Bella S..." Bella Salvo and Bella Safari had the same coloring. Safari was successful at the Caliente track in Mexico and was adopted as "Sam" in California a few years ago. Being silly, I imagine them as human siblings. Safari/Sam was the "jock" and Salvo/Sal was the dreamy artistic kid. I know Sal has a good life (he complains here and there - sad violin), yet hope your video helps others know how wonderful greyhounds are and can provide a wonderful home to them.
What greyt feedback. I have been collecting sound effects, and must find a Sad Violin! Yes, they are very dramatic to those who pay attention. Loved this comment. Will be re-reading; it’s *that* fun.
Thank you so much for this great video! I have a question.. i'm considaring to adopt a spanish greyhound but i'm wondering if my tiny little garden (45m2) would be enough for him to play free knowing that because of his hunting instinct, i'll never be able to let him run free in the woods and play with his futur potential friends everyday, what i use to do for 12 years with my beloved dog, now passed away for 6 months... it would still be long walks in the nature but always on leash and, actually, when i'm watching some videos of greyhounds running and playing crazy in gigantic close gardens, i'm asking myself if the dog would'nt very frustrated not having that opportunity. I hear all the time that they are super lazy....but still So i was thinking about adopting an old greyhound who wouldn't need that kind of exercise but then, i have another issue: ....the stairs....my house has 3 floors! Could you tell me your feeling about it? That would so useful for me at the moment.....because i'm struggeling with this decision for weeks now... Thank you!!!!! Oliva
I’m sorry to hear about your dog😢 I know what you mean. I also live in a 3-floor home. Lots of property, but no fence. Greyhounds are wonderfully adaptable, though. If you can commit to enough walking every day, you and your greyhound will be very happy together. If your property is fenced, a couple walks, + some time out in your garden. He’ll probably spend more time sniffing around, than running around. They’re very nosy! A total of 60 minutes a day is a good exercise target. You mAy find you actually need to build him up to anything longer than 20 minutes. They really are shockingly lazy. They do better on stairs if there is some kind of carpet on them. I haven’t done a stairs video yet, but the Greyt Show channel has one that should be helpful. Good luck! Keep me posted, ok?
@@GreyhoundHomecare Thank you for your answer and your kind words. So much grief. I thought i would never adopt a dog again...but i realize it'is very difficult to live without a furry friend and there are so much who are desperatly waiting for a home, so.... Your video is very helpful as is your answer. My stairs are in hardwood not covered with anything...that wasn't an issue for my dog, Sidonie but she was a cross sheperd and didn't have so long legs...although, at 14, i had to help her. I should find someone here in Brussels who has a greyhound to make some tests! :-) Thank you again! I wish you a beautiful summer with your Grey! Oliva

Just getting caught up. Glad you enjoyed this one, too. Hey, I clicked your Instagram link! I know it's hard to keep up with multiple social media platforms, but I liked your content over there - Insta is greyt for photography.
@@GreyhoundHomecare Thanks for your kind words about Xander's IG account. I really like Instagram. I plan to get back to it at some point. I needed to take a break because I was just spending too much time on there and I wanted to focus on RU-vid. Time, there is just never enough of it!
Hi, I recently adopted a greyhound. I agree with you, they really are the best pet anyone could ever ask for. I would be really happy if you would check my channel out. It's about our new greyhound. Thank you :)
