Are Indians caucasians?
It’s complicated but the short answer is yes. Anthropologists classify race by bone structure not complexion. The bone structure of people from India is similar to the bone structure of Europeans. But not everyone classifies race that way. Most people go by color and most would simply call Indians brown or Southeast Asian.
Historically in the United States, East Indians self identify as white in order to distance themselves from African-Americans although Indians also refer to themselves as brown. There is sometimes a paranoid fear of being mistaken for Black people.
Nikki Haley, the Indian American ex governor of South Carolina, whose parents are from Punjab in Northwest India, identified as 'white' on her voter registration card in 2001. But she has called herself a person of color when it suited her politically.
So the answer to the question is Indians are caucasian but they are brown caucasians just as many Arabs are. In other words, all white people are Caucasians but not all Caucasians are white people.
