The biggest unsolved Simpsons Mystery... Are Kirk and Luann Van Houten related?! A question we've all asked but never sought out the answer for. On this episode of Dark Simpsons Mysteries, I take a deep dive into the Van Houten family to find out the truth!
I think we've all had this thought, they look so much alike, it's easy to mistaken them as siblings. So while doing research for this video, I didn't know that they actually had a definitive answer for it, that was a pleasant surprise. I had lots of fun making this one.

Here's a theory to explain various things in The Simpsons away. Barney's birthday: Is it April 20th or July 15th? Bleeding Gums Murphy: Does he have no family, hence none showing up at his funeral and blew his royalty money on Fabergé eggs, or did he have a large family and was screwed out of royalties by the record company? Dr. Marvin Monroe: Is he dead and had a hospital named after him, or did he manage to recover from his illness? Homer's first drink: Was it when he was a little kid, or was it when he was 17? Did Homer truly think his mother was dead after the attack on the germ lab, or were there a few times they reunited? The answer to all these and more is simple. During the Treehouse of Horror V segment, Time and Punishment, we see Homer use his toaster to go back in time to the era of the dinosaurs repeatedly and altering the course of history, but never encountering himself in the past. The reason? The Simpsons has multiverse time travel rules. Every time he ended up in the past, he entered a new universe. In fact, Groundskeeper Willie learned of the multiverse and was killed by that universe's Maggie to prevent him from learning the truth. He even says as such. Willie: "You're still not in your own world, Homer. I can get you home, but you have to do exactly as I--" (screams and falls over) Maggie: "This is indeed a disturbing universe." Willie didn't say Homer's in the wrong timeline, but world. This means this he too knows of the multiverse and was trying to save Homer before Maggie assassinated him.

MY THEORY: They are indeed cousins, as Milhouse confessed. Kirk was born in Springfield and Luann in Shelbyville, so it makes sense. Plus, Milhouse said marrying a cousin worked out great for Kirk and Luann. But exactly why? Because Springfieldians and their cousins from the city next door find each other attractive. In the end, they are indeed married cousins, and it worked out perfectly for them. By the way, for anyone trying to find Graggle, he's at 3:28. He's like Waldo/Wally. You NEVER know where he is.

Family Guy *_WOULD_* go the brother and sister route. ….. especially since the whole Goldman family hasn’t really been used that often in more recent episodes, so the writers don’t seem to have any particular affection for the family.

I mean I've thought about it randomly at different points in time and my wife because they do look way too similar that you can't help but think that they're related, but the fact that recently I thought about it again and then this video comes out is just perfect timing

Here is a mystery for you, is Bart secretly smart? It seems Ludacris, but Bart is has been shown to be smart when homeschooled and is very clever with his pranks. It is theorized that Bart acts dumb to be popular and avoid being picked on like Lisa.

Not sure if he is smarter than Lisa but in season 11, episode 2, he was diagnosed with ADHD, which would explain some of his behavior

It is not that Ludacris Bart is smart, he just can't focus enough to apply himself as has ADD/ADHD and if he could, he would do well. One of the constants shown in future episodes is that Bart ends up becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, so he has to be smart in order to get that far. An example is in the season 2 episode, Bart Gets an F. it showed how hard it is for Bart to focus and study when he has to but in the end he tried and just managed to pass the test. Also in the episode, "Bart Stops to Smell the Roosevelts" It showed Bart was smart, he just needed to be taught differently in school.

At the Flanders family reunion on Lisa The Vegetarian, the men all resemble Ned and the women resemble Maude, so make of that what you will. Plus on Bart Gets Hit By A Car, when he's on the escalator to Heaven and sees Great Grampa Simpson, there's a woman who looks a lot like Marge. But I'm not sure whether that's actually canon, or if it's just Bart's imagination.

I an sure this started as lazy animation, but everyone always joked about them looking alike even if they never say it out loud. The writers themselves saw the similarities and decided to tease the joke, and it is just about cannon now.

That's probably from the most recent season, the episode called Lisa the Boy Scout(which is a purposely misleading title). The episode is full of non cannon segments (mostly fan theories) like Eddie being Ralph's real father and Martin turning out to be an adult with dwarfism who even has his own family, and he is an undercover cop just posing as an elementary student.

At this point I think everyone are related, it would explain why everyone is yellow and every time we think it's somebody's cousin/brother they hail from the surrounding areas like Shelbyville and the Outlands but always end up in Springfield. Finally the town was moved down the road later on and I believe someone said moving the town again

How about for the next mystery, is Ned Flanders a serial killer? Considering all the wives he's buried, both Maude and Edna. Plus in there's that episode 'Flanders' Ladder', where Marge is married to Ned, dies after taking a drink out of a glass of tea, and then ned place her picture on the wall with the rest of his 47 dead wives or victims.

No, that was Dr. Hibbert who used the term "Siamese twins" instead of conjoined twins. He also says "hillbillies" instead of "sons of the soil", but I'm pretty sure "hillbilly" hasn't been branded politically incorrect just yet.

For the past two years, when not commenting on Sour Simpsons videos, I've been researching incest on the Internet. What I found surprised me. Did you know that first cousins can have children without great risk of birth defect or genetic disease? That's a quote directly from the New York Times, April 4th 2002. But despite this scientific fact, state laws on incest remain inconsistent and woefully outdated. Family Guy copied the the Van Houtens with the Goldmans, parents of Neil Goldman, they too were identical parents of the nerdy boy who creeps on the main family's daughter. I don't remember if they implied any incest between them but I wouldn't be surprised. But they eventually differentiated themselves by unceremoniously killing off Muriel because... I guess they couldn't milk enough Jewish stereotype jokes out of her? Or whatever.
