I'Ve bought about 10 Makita CXT 12V tools, most of them brushless. But more recently, I've bought six or seven Skil PWRCore 12 tools. Almost all PWRCore tools are brushless; their inflator is brushed but it's a brilliant design, and I;ve bought 11 or 12 for my household and for relatives. Skil continues to expand its 12V range and is now the smarter 12V choice.

I love my CXT tools, really wish Makita would make a few more. A dremel, a soldering iron, a mini-router like the Bosch 12V. Not to mention updating their 3.5” circular saw to be brushless.

I think makita wants to maintain some prestige over the other brands. Higher prices convey that. Its like name brand clothes, you're paying for the logo, only this time the engineering makes a difference so its up to the buyer to decide if a lighter and more finesse style is worth it compared to bulkier tools. I also think the 12v hits that sweet spot and is therefore more valuable. It's interesting.

I'm a callout gas maintenance engineer. I don't ever reach for the 18v stuff if I have a cxt option. With all the crap I need to carry in and out of different jobs all day I don't want to lug the extra size or weight. Being brushed or brushless don't make enough difference for me to pay a penny more apart from perhaps a real high draw tool like a plunge saw or angle grinder, but to be honest my 18v brushed versions of those do the job too well to replace. I do like dewalt tools but could never live with the charging times, been spoilt with Makita 18v 20 min full charge from empty. My mates with DeWalt basically have to charge their batts at home plus carry extra full batts and be cognisant of remembering to keep the charger constantly working and when they run out of batts its tools down. I just don't bother or care, if Im out im back in the game charged up so fast its never a issue. 5 mins charge to get the tool to work long enough for the next battery to be full. I can charge my 5 battery's on my new 40v charger with its free adaptor and my 10 year old rapid 18v charger quicker than he gets 1 full again on DeWalt's excuse for a fast charger..

I just bought the makita cxt 12v wrench but totally agree with you. None of the other 12v tools Makita offers are worth buying. On the other hand, Dewalt knocked it out of the park with their extreme line. Maybe I should have just gone with dewalts extreme wrench. I went back and forth for a while on that one. Especially since the makita 12v wrench is brushed. Maybe I made the wrong decision but really didn't wanna buy into dewalt in the end. Here's to hoping Makita updates their 12v tools. Cause I aint buying any more until that happens.

I use a range of corded tools ryobi, Bosch, dewalt. I use 12v battery drills as mini screw drivers/ light duty drills. Saving money using corded where I can, get something I use at heights in my pockets around the house I use the Bosch 12v line. Thinking of switching to dewalt and makita after watching some drill tests in 12v series. Bosch 12v 6ah 4ah 2ah batteries don't last more than two years. Batteries are $130-220 AUD. A TOTAL ANAL RIP OFF
