Are meal prep companies actually worth it?! I test out two of the most popular meal prep companies Factor and Megafit bum box in an unsponsored review to see which is better and also how they compare to ordering catering as meal prep and making your own meal prep at home!

Nice review. Just moved to a new condo and noticed a lot of Factor boxes in the mail room so I decided to look into it. As a frugal fitness dude, it's hard to justify. Been getting 5 pound pack of chicken breast under $20, brown rice for a few bucks and veggies. I can meal prep 10 meals for about $30-$40 bucks. That said, it's hard to beat the variety and convenient of these services. Great video.

I do the same with beef/fish/ chicken/rice veggies, I think these companies would be a lot more successful if they didn’t gatekeep decent prices per meal exclusive to large quantities. I can meal prep most my meals but if I could use them for let’s say 6 meals a week at 5-8$ p/m as just a filler for variation or when I’m in a pinch I would totally do it. But if you get low quantity they charge you like 15$ which is basically just go to a damn restaurant at that price. Doesn’t make sense

I've only seen these meal prep services only be valuable for really high income people. It's not only because they can easily afford it but because of money lost by devoting time to their own meal prep. They reach a point where you can't afford to stop to do stuff yourself but that's for very rare people. Most of us would be harmed financially for this level of convenience lol

@fragout9575
@fragout9575 Год назад
@@JcruzFit it's subjective and relative to your time plus finances. Most ppl still run to fast food options for lunch and dinner and quickly spend $15 to $20 per meal on a good day! And every now and then, "splurge" for Chipotle or something similar to be "healthy"... So all in all, you still spend about the same and end up with more calories and even worse health by the end of it all. Yes, I agree homemade food prep is the best way to go, as long as you have that time to prep and the ability to have a large variety of meals to make it past two or three days and don't give in to fast food options. Just a humble opinion from personal experience. And as a side note, like Hello Fresh, which owns Factor, you can change and/or pause or cancel services at any time as well.

I don’t even keep track of how many hours I work as owning my own business but it’s a lot and I am single so a meal preparation. Kit is awesome for me. I don’t care how much it costs. I’m not a cheap loser American, that nickel and dimes everything. I understand the cost of me going to the grocery store, Coming home, unloading the groceries, putting all the groceries away, thinking of how to prepare the meals, actually making the meals, preparing the meals, and packaging the meals for the week, lol this is a no brainer and I do not have the time or the want to do all of this. This is why I believe a lot of men get married, is to have a wife Control their finances, take care of the children, take care of them, meal preparation, and the grocery shopping, and take care of cleaning the house. This is exactly how my dad had that when I was growing up. My mother never worked a day in her life at a job, but she stayed at home and took care of everything and that is a full-time job for sure. my dad worked and that was it and then he did his woodworking in the basement after work. He built his electric guitars and had his side hustle business but yeah, it worked out great for them but for me being single having a food delivery service works out perfectly for me because I don’t like to go grocery shopping, nor do I like to go and make meals. I don’t know how to do all the stuff. I’m gonna leave this to the nerds. Like I do with everything. Everything cost money and that’s fine. That’s why I work six days a week so that I can afford the finer things in life.

Honestly because of this post. I’ve now decided that I will get bum MF 12 pack only use them for dinner meals(stretch them out for two weeks; buy one first week of the month and second one on the second week of the month). Lunch and breakfast I can get myself. And my budget will be around what I spend on buying prep food anyways. Really appreciate the review. Hate to admit I’m too lazy to prep dinner food. But when you work 55-80 hrs a week the one day you have off you don’t want to be burden with that chore. Got my subscription. Keep it up 💪🏻👏🏻

I just finished a round of factor and megafit to try them both out, and I think I definitely prefer Megafit. I've had just about 20 meals of each, and I feel much more satisfied with Megafit's meals despite the lower calorie count. I also never had a "bad" Megafit meal, but there were a couple Factor meals I would definitely never eat again. All in all, both great services, but Megafit beats them in every aspect of a meal prep delivery service except for price EDIT: I definitely recommend avoiding the microwave though, using an airfryer/skillet/oven whenever possible makes the meals 10x better and it takes 5 mins

Also, never pay full price, both companies have coupon codes online that you can find with a quick google search. Ive tried both and liked both for different reasons. Factor does feel a little bit more like going out to eat whereas MF is definitely more basic but with better macros. I like usually go for MF because they're also more freezer friendly so I can stock up and grab some whenever I feel too lazy to meal prep or just want a day of variety from what I made. That being said it can be a hard to reconcile that $14 MF steak and rice bowl that I could have made for at least half that and thats kinda true for a lot of their meals.

Thanks for the review! I just ate my first meal from my order. I had chicken with spinach and cheese and some cauliflower rice side and it was very good. When you’re single it gets so old and expensive and unhealthy to eat out 5-6 times a week. I think this is going to work out much better for me. The other brand you were reviewing looked like bigger portions? I might give it a try after my month of Factor. I heated up the oven to 375 and cooked mine for 9 minutes and it was perfect tasting. I’m sure it’s still good in the microwave, but I think food re heated tastes better out of the oven. Thanks again and Subbed !

holy shit that's rlly cheap. What's your CoL like, what grocery store do u go to, and what do u normally buy when u go? I spend waaaaaay more than that on meal prep so if I can get my numbers lower I want to lmao

@@shadowwvfx i go to aldis. Used to go to ralphs or walmart but stuff there is more expensive. I get enough for a week with the budget. I dont really do snacks but if I do itll add like $10. Stuff there is hella cheap

i recently ordered from 2 different meal prep companies. Both had half the protein in the meals that they claimed to. They skimp on the meat and hope people don't notice because it's all mixed in. i have no faith in the calories on the side of the packet, when they've missed the protein by such a huge margin. I'll be making my own from now on for cost and accuracy.

I've used Factor on and off for years and it's always been super delicious but just not very filling. Going to give this Megafit a shot next and see if those fill me up a little more. Thanks for putting this video together!

Factor meals are loaded with salt. So if you plan on eating more than one a day, plan on hypertension and a stroke. They have 800-900mg of salt in them per meal. Just for reference it is recommended that you get no more than 2000mg daily. So two meals and you’re there for the day.. So, at best factor can only safely be used to supplement you eating something else that’s actually healthy that you’ve cooked during the week.

I tried factor and it’s really really good food. I ate 4 different meals so far and I’m happy so far.

Each meal is 14 dollars. I can go to wholefoods and buy a salmon premade meal for also 14 dollars. If the cost is the same and I can actually go, pick and choose, then I might as well just do that.

$15 per meal for such a small amount of food is wild. People, learn how to cook or meal prep. It’s not hard.

I say it like this. There's something for everyone. Me personally I can do my grocery shopping with $125 and make plenty of meals that feed a family of 4 for a month. So this for me would be a waste of money. But, Definitely I'm sure there are people with other situations and lifestyles that could benefit from this. That doesn't mean the price still isn't expensive for what you're getting, but the convenience to a person that doesn't like to meal prep every day or once a week like a sunday for the rest of the week. Yeah this is for you.

Personally, I like FACTOR better. They mostly include protein and vegetables. I can complement with a toasted piece of bread and I have a fuller meal if I want to. Megafit seems to include more carbs, like pasta, rice and potatoes AND they are more expensive.

What I don’t understand is that each is like 500 kcal and the one company wants you to have it 2 meals a day so if your a fit male would you not need like a 1000-1600 kcal breakfast to not be starving yourself

Now I get food for LESS than $200/month since I am typically doing OMAD with exactly 3 rice cakes, a banana, cocoa powder, and a tablespoon of PB each am. Factor meal for lunch, and that's 900 cals/day!

The bum box seems better but $219 per week for about ~1000 calories a day is expensive. I pay about $253 for 30 meals at cleaneatz which is about ~1000 calories a day for 2 weeks. Then I fill the gap with protein snacks or shakes.

The meals may not be bland, but they are pretty mid. It's seasoned but nothing adventurous like what Hello Fresh has, or food you can just make yourself for even cheaper. It's a step up from ingredient heavy frozen meals. And convenient enough to avoid fast food.

Seems like all these companies use the same concept. Give a bunch of super cheap filler (rice, noodles, pasta etc) and give you a very small amount of protein (much more expensive)... You're basically paying 10+ dollars for 2 dollars worth of food. Rice and other fillers like that are extremely cheap, especially in the volume they purchase them in. Mostly paying for convenience which I totally get but... Yikes
