Are motorcycles side cars safe ?

Having a sidecar makes a motorcycle safer, because it adds stability. Having 3 or more wheels gives you enough stability to where you don't slide

I'm really considering a sidecar bike for my wife. She wants something to putter around with but due to her health issues two wheels is very unlikely to be doable. Heart issues resulted in her having nerve damage and significant balance issues as well as virtually no strength. She is not a fan of trikes at all, prefers cafe racer type bikes. I'm thinking a CB with a sidecar rig to help keep her planted at low speed would be a good route to go. Plus they're just cool af haha. Great video guys, looks like a great time. 🤘

Not sure why you titled this video the way you did. While it was mildly amusing it never addressed the heading topic. Are they safe? I've been riding with a sidecar for quite some time now, and can tell you that while you do need to use caution on right hand turns, it really isn't any more unsafe than solo ridding. Different, YES! but as long as you use common sense it is very enjoyable. I personally think they can be even more safe in some regards. Besides the obvious stability of three wheels in inclement weather, you have the added visibility that comes with it. Most people that own this type of rig, aren't looking to break speed records, so given the demographic that ride these rigs, it stands to reason that they are more relaxed in their approach to riding. The only real issue about sidecar safety is understanding the handling differences in corners. With that in mind, the trained or experienced sidecar rider is usually more aware of the lift issue. If your new to the sidecar experience or just considering it, don't be afraid, just be mindful and cautious of your speed in the corner. Once you get some experience or training and you get the feel of it, it is no big deal at all. Best of all you can take your favorite girl, or best friend (dog) with you on all your rides and share your experience. It's fun and more memorable that way. One last note. Sidecars seem to bring a smile on the faces of more then just the owner. I can't tell you how many times I've been approached by people, not just bikers, that look and smile and want to take pictures. Mainly of my dog sitting in the sidecar but also those who enjoy the nostalgic look. I've been asked by several people, if they could sit in it, or even go for a short spin and everyone of them have loved it. The sidecar phenomenon is definitely a reality and I get almost as much enjoyment from that as riding.

Brother, I know this is an old video but I hope you still monitor comments. I am in the process of retiring (with little in the way of money sadly) and would love to scratch a primal itch to get into motorcycling. Unfortunately my wife is unable to ride herself and tandem would be sketchy due to her polio. Trikes are very expensive and there are very few non-Harley options (don't ask) so I am looking at sidecars but... The aforementioned polio makes it impossible for her to crawl into a normal sidecar. Someone needs to make an accessible one. She would need to be able to sit down (i.e. needs a door) and swing her legs in like getting in a car. Maybe some sort of clamshell design that would fully expose the cockpit when opened.
