@@dariorox1 me, who is 6 foot 3 could never do a planche because of moment of force, and if I am able to do a straddle planche it's almost the same strength as a 5 foot 6 dude doing a planche pushup
Honestly the first time I did a muscle up it was the most exhilarating feeling. It literally felt as if I was on top of the world. Over time however, I realized that it was a movement that put stress on my elbows and shoulders. It was also replaceable with other movements and wasn’t some unique move for secret strength.
If your purpose is to impress people, you impress much more with a good looking Front Lever or a Human Flag which to me are a bit more difficult but not that much That said , if you kip a muscle up af like the average guy (I was among them lol) it just makes u ridicolous rather than "cool", unless your purpose is to impress people who dont have any minimum knowledge about bw training and strength in general
@@federicodigioia4463 To a casual eye front lever doesn't impress anyone. You will be surprised people being impressed more by a handstand than planche. The human flag so far is the one that has really impressed people who don't train.
The muscle ups strangely feel awesome when you do them. There's no other exercises that feel as rewarding as them, not sure why. I love them, but I do them mostly as a 'warm up' before a workout. 5-6 clean muscle ups for a few sets and after that, I feel hyped and ready for my levers, pull ups, etc,
I use them too before a bench or deadlift, went from 1-3 sloppy reps to up to 8 clean straight leg reps in a week, so I do them any time I see a pull up bar 😂
I do this exactly. The first thing I do when I walk in the gym is bang out 1 set of muscle ups to chin up superset. Its a great way to gauge how my body is feeling that day
@@golinagalaxmi7737 very positive! The mobility course is very well done and you can learn a lot from it. High quality videos and clear training routine.
As soon as your form breaks down enough that your chest touches the bar, start doing dips, then finish with pull ups (or another muscle up). I've been doing these for years, sure they might do nothing for front levers and handstand pushups, but I've never known a move to be so useful for motivating me to do more reps
Due to Calisthenicmovement Channel, today is my 42nd day in a roll, Zero day off, since I started myself a 100 push-up daily challenge. I've mixed 10 different positions, levels, styles, to don't be bored... and the results are amazing.. Thanks a lot guys!
It also makes getting onto something from a hanging position much easier. Of course there are pull-over variations, but the muscle up is more convinient.
Come on guys, I just got my first few muscle ups, and now this Video (haven't watched it yet though). But we always know, the video is gonna be high quality
I say it is more of a skill you learn to make sure you can pull explosively. I was at like 18 pull ups before I got my first muscle up because I would pull slowly. Not necessary but just helps you be a more well rounded calisthenics athlete if you are able to do them. Edit: Finished watching the video and they basically said what I did in the end :p
I find being able to do a muscle up very important for watersports - whitewater especially. It's the movement you use to get back on a raft before getting crushed by a rock.
hey, you should do a video where you do all the exercises you talk about in your video "how to workout at home", we like those videos because they're easier to follow since we can just turn on our tv or pc and follow you as you go and complete it like that
thanks had the same thought coming up in my mind... achieved them and wanted to improve with them, but noticed that I did not rly feel the improvement overall, like I did before I did so many of them
Great Video. As always nice explanations and good research. Do you have a explanatorial Video or tutorial for the ring muscle ups? I'd like to know how to do it perfect form before I get into it. Best regards
Hi cali first of all i would like to thank you for all your very effective videos then i suggest you to do a tutoriel about one arm handstand because their are only few videos talking about this topic.
Woowwwwwwww I was trying to pull straight up to actually attempt the muscle ups. It's crazy tho how close I am doing it improperly... Thx so much for the simple yet effective form
Hi, guys! Didn't know where to write to you so asking here - it would be very helpful if you do a detailed video on training gloves for calisthenics. What to look for and what not to buy, what works and what doesn't. Thanks.
Only gymnasts or students for coaching would be that committed to learn all these skills..... no average joe will go to the gym after all day at work and try these exercises........ these are too damn hard for just building a harmonious physique .... although amazingly good and worth the try 💪🏻
I'm on the lean/thin side and I've always loved doing push ups/pull ups/jogging. No matter how many I did, I rarely saw a change in physique. I didn't really see any gains until I started doing muscle ups. Within the first two weeks I noticed my arms getting thicker and my upper body more sculpted.
If your got efficient on the bar muscle up you can use it pretty good as accessory exercise to weighted pull ups, because it is less taxing and extremely explosive. For me it was extra volume with great carryover to any other pulling movement
Basically a muscle up is like a ferrari. Its a symbol of consistency, practice, hardwork, dedication and also is great to show off. However you can have other cheaper cars that will have the same function as the ferrari in terms of being a car that drives you from A to B.
You should do a collab' with Magnus Mitbo ! Could be fun to see you in a climbing gym and I don't know why but I've got a great feeling it'll have a good chemistry between you!
I recently did a video on this exact topic and recommended you guys as an example of the best way to focus on this skill. Muscle Ups are definitely overhyped... but tbh... I don't think many of us care
At age 21 I did 43, strict, no kips, double muscle ups in University of Virginia gym with a law student keeping count. I had started working on them at age 16 when I saw a guy do one behind the high school gym and was hugely impressed, made a horizontal bar behind my parent's house and worked very hard at it, getting that first one. I was a wrestler (not very good - average); so, was an athlete and weight lifter. The trick was an "over grip" on the bar and having very thin, light legs, lower body. My strength was all in my upper body. I am now 81 and can not do a regular pull up.
I dont like crossfit so i focused on doing straight pullups and now its so hard to shift my brain to do the rotation part of the muscle ups, been training bodybuilding for years so strenght isnt the problem but the mind muscle connection i have really screws me over
3:44 Muscle ups can also help in pulling skills like front lever ,backlever and one arm pull-up right? Like not directly but learning the muscle up is good start for lever and oap journey right?
In my opinion it is simply a skill. The skills of callisthenics evolve and influence each other in such a way that some skills are king. We call them the basics. That however does not make them fundamental. What is fundamental are the principles and precepts. This skill falls under that fundament. I see it, not as a technique or a workout in its entirety, and don't believe it should not be viewed as such. When you reach a plateau, in any area, you must begin to switch gears and learn new things. Could be anything, but after you've learned and practiced enough new things, you will find in them the "answer" to your plateau. The muscle up is one such thing. It's simply something you do. Not a point of mastery. Not a manifestation. You learn it for it's heuristic benefit. It is a means in and of itself-by its sake-for its sake. Nothing more; nothing less. The fast and loose rule is to generalize, not specialize. Although "generalize" isn't even the proper word in this connotation. Appropriatize, actualize, and naturalize are more effective depictions of the Martial material. The very essences of what we're trying to achieve on the path to Martial mastery. That is the art of Martial Arts. The art of all arts no less.
Never did I think I would be late night reading CaliMove comments and find such a beautifully written comment. Yet, here I am. A respectful tip of the hat to you.
Amazing video!! Could you please also do one about archer pull ups and one arm pull ups? I usually do normal pullups to stretch my back after being on the computer all day and wonder if the archer provide any extra benefit or it's just more strain on the shoulders Thanks!!!
I bought your calisthenics workout program from level 1 to 5 and just completed level 1 and 2 and I can do bar muscle ups 3-4 rep in strict form and 5 and 6th rep with kick....can you guys make a tutorial for ring muscle up i have difficulty in doing transition.
