I've had my 2018 outdoors rv 20fq for just over 2 years. Its a very well built camper. I've been camping in - 40 degree weather and 95 + degree weather. No complaints!!

I would like to see RV manufacturers, have the trailers pre-wired to accept larger solar systems like 600-1200 watts, or make things simple to install such a system, by having things pre-drilled etc. The existing solar systems capacity being offered is to small for serious boondocking.
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 3 года назад
I couldn’t agree more. We’ve spoken to Outdoors RV about putting the solar wiring in conduit so at least it would be easier to add more solar later if you wanted to upgrade the wiring.

Something else, I would like to see as an option, is the bed to sit up higher to give more storage below. Could have a removable small ladder with a couple of steps. The inconveniance of having a bed up higher, may be made up for additional storage.

Thanks for the great interview Matt. Because of your video series, I've narrowed my choice down to the Trail Series 27TRX model. I plan to live in it full time when I retire. I still have some questions to sort hrough and would love to hear your opinion on buying new vs used and how ORV has evolved in regards to features, design, and upgrades from 2017 to present. If the design hasn't changed much in the last 4 to 5 years then that could help in influencing the new vs used decision. Thanks again.
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 3 года назад
By default I would lean towards buying used as RVs are depreciating assets. If you haven't RVed much, I would also go for used, as a lot of people change their rig in their first year. Then I would look whether in the used market you can find what you want. When we bought ours there didn't seem to be that many Outdoors RVs in the used market. I have heard right now the used car/RV market seems to be quite high so if the price difference is close, it might make sense to buy new. The design changes would be my last consideration, unless there is something very very specific you want.

I want to know if the Outdoors RV Trailers would remain warm in -20 degrees F. And how you could make up for the loss of heat in those conditions.

I have been living in an ORV Timber Ridge for 4 years. They are built like a tank and the insulation is twice as thick as most trailers. This and that has broken but no fault of theirs. These are not disposable trailers meant for two weeks or less of use per year. Quality product in a market where it's far from the norm.
@scottharris9318
@scottharris9318 2 года назад
Is there any hope Outdoors RV will switch to a composite substrate like Azdel in the side walls? I really find this story compelling. There is an Outdoors RV travel trailer in the storage lot we use though we’ve never met the owner. It sure looks nice. I’m confident we’d order one immediately from the nearest dealer five states away if that luan was replaced. Sidewall delamination is a worrying threat where we live in North Georgia. We’ve had a 2017.5 Lance 1985 for five years and tow it out West every year. Lance uses Azdel on both sides of the side walls. That saved us during a gutter screw leak (fell out) in the first year we owned it. We are ready to buy a larger trailer with more cargo capacity and a frame strong enough to get us to Alaska; weight is no big concern. There is an Arctic Fox dealer in our area but their interiors looks so dated and stodgy. Similar to Lance going into 2017. The other issue is Northwood Mfg also uses luan as a substrate in side walls. I can’t shake the image of an Outback travel trailer. They’re common here. If a used one exists out of warranty that isn’t delaminating it belongs in a museum.

AW, would you suggest buying from the Manufacturer directly? Or go through an RV sales place?
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 4 года назад
There are very few RV manufacturers that sell directly to customers and Outdoors RV is the same. You have to go through an RV dealership to buy Outdoors RVs (though you can definitely research and read reviews for different dealerships, not all are equal). You can also, of course, buy used either from a dealership or from a private party.

Can we order one of your trailers with over 1200 watts of solar, so we can run the AC in the summer independent of propane? So we never have to refill tanks?
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 4 года назад
As far as I'm aware, the most solar that can be factory / dealer installed as standard is 510W. However, there's nothing stopping you installing more yourself, or having someone else install solar for you. We've installed 600W on the roof of our 21RBS, and 1200W wouldn't be impossible. When you say AC, do you mean Air Conditioning or 110VAC (e.g. an inverter)? If the former, then you should know that your Air Conditioning unit will draw substantially more than 1200W - ours is more like 1500W plus another 200-300W or so for inverter inefficiency. Even then, your solar panels will only come close to their rated power for a couple hours around the middle of each day in sunny weather in summer. As for propane, it looks like some of their 2020 models are coming with 80lbs of propane (2x 40lb) instead of 60lbs (2x 30lb) which will definitely keep you off grid for longer. We've never run out of propane while boondocking though - it easily lasts us 2 weeks in the conditions we've been in.
@markwhitton8230
@markwhitton8230 4 года назад
@@AdventurousWay Thank you for your response. Yes, AC= air conditioning. There are 2 solar panel experts, 1 in Idaho and 1 in Denver that Bob Wells recommends who do the necessary panels to keep the AC running( perhaps it was 1500 watts plus as you say) that are much cheaper than having a dealer do it. But I'll probably buy the Outdoors RV, Backcountry model in Oregon, since the dealers in Utah have limited inventory.

Check out Volta Power Systems if you want enough juice to run everything electrically. They have 4 levels of battery packs and I don't know the cost of the entire system, but I'm guessing it will be very expensive to have this much power. Hopefully over time, prices will come down.

Washer and Dryer PLEASE! I want this quality but going to use full time to travel ALL the USA and Canada!
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 3 года назад
It's completely your choice of course, but within the community of full-timers who travel around (as opposed to staying primarily in one place), the vast majority of people we know don't have a washer or dryer in their RV. We've had no issues finding good, clean laundromats on our travels, even during the pandemic. Remember that a washer and dryer use a lot of water (fresh and grey capacity) and power, so you may find boondocking more difficult.
@kmatejovsky
@kmatejovsky 3 года назад
Why no "on demand" water heaters?
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 3 года назад
We have several friends with these and love them, but it wouldn't be for us. We like to boondock (dry camp in remote areas) and in summer we're able to use the excess solar power to heat our water for free. Also, we've heard from several friends that their tankless water heaters take longer for hot water to start flowing, meaning more wasted water - I'd probably want to do it in combination with a recirculation loop or something if we did it.

VP Darin Nelson explained who ORV’s customers are...but missed me and others. WE are potential customers because we’ve had our (industry standard) poorly made travel trailer frames crack and break, and experienced other quality issues. - I bought my first, new, travel trailer (2005 Dutchman Lite 18B) specifically for hunting and navigating some logging and mining roads where a trailer longer than 18’-20’ could not easily be towed. I had NO idea in 2005 that travel trailer frames were no longer made of sturdy American steel like the old, used, trailers I had used before the Dutchman (the old trailers had very sturdy steel frames). I did not even look at the frame when purchasing my new trailer. - I’M NOW SHOPPING FOR A TRAILER I WILL NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE FRAME - I WANT A ‘30 YEAR’ TRAILER. - At present, I’m not even completely satisfied with the Backcountry Series trailers. Please show us more of the frame. I’m most interested in the Backcountry 20BH model. I’m worried the 8” I-beam frame I glanced on one video for the Backcountry 20BH might not be much stronger than the crappy, folded-metal, 6” I-beam on my Dutchman Lite 18B.)

Northwood Manufacturing and Outdoors RV were both founded by the same guy, Ray Nash, and thus are under the same parent company, Northwood Investments. Some of the components are shared between the 2 companies. The trailers used by Outdoors RV are made of steel and are certified by Pacific West Associates. Ha, long term use my a-s. My 2016 Outdoor RV 23DBS Creekside, shower drain leaks because of the cheap plastic tub doesn't seal around it, Awning intermittent extend out problems because of the switch, outer stove compartment door latch does not catch because it's not installed correctly, roof vent plastic housing containing the screen broke off. Please, any future RV Travel Trailer buyer, you are putting top $$$$$ for a travel trailer. Due your due diligence and lower your expectation for Outdoor RV.
@TriggerTravels
@TriggerTravels 2 года назад
Easy answer... No, these laminated units all fall apart. I don't care what all special glue or bonding process they say they use. They're all going to get a leak and delam. If you want a unit that'll last you forever get a molded fiberglass unit like an escape or Oliver. I think these are built a bit better but they are constructed the same way as all the unit coming out of indiana. If they truly thought it would last for years to come they would warranty it as such... But they don't. So take that for what it is. You want to see a beastly built unit go look at an old Carriage. Everything was real hardwood and they're built like a tank. These are all cardboard and flimsy fake wood.
