Thanks for the comprehensive ORV tour. We live, work and travel full-time from our 2019 ORV Timber Ridge 27BHS (purchased new in Washington State) since March. We've made our way to Arizona on our way to Austin. Before we had towed it 100 miles, we returned it to the dealer for warranty repairs for frame rust, a blown shock absorber, defective shock bushings, wiring repairs, blinds not opening or closing and a misaligned slide out. Yesterday, I completed a field repair (in Arizona) on the shower drain. I noticed water pouring out from under the trailer after my wife took a shower. The shower drain had slipped out of the trap under the tub. I did the repair myself since the local dealer was about 4 weeks out on service appointments. The quality control on our trailer stands in stark contrast to everything I've seen put forth by ORV. I am thankful that ORV covered the warranty issues. I just don't understand how this trailer made it out of the factory with all the obvious QA issues. Scott

Thank you very much for the review of your Outdoors RV. I've been considering purchasing your exact model. I've heard that Outdoors RV was a step above the typical RV manufacturer quality and paid careful attention to QC through many inspections throughout the build process. I'd like to mirror the other comments concerning the use of EPDM for the roof membrane vs TPO or stronger. Also the use of Luan vs azdel. I wonder if any RV manufacturer will ever approach the quality of the automotive industry in their QC processes.

I'm so sorry Scott that happened to you! It's hard to make anything 100% perfect, but it's unfortunate that you got multiple issues in your trailer.

Outdoors RV needs to read this email--something clearly went wrong on your trailer and they should acknowledge that. Hope the rest goes well for you. From all I know about them they are a fair company.

Looking at the Outdoors RV's. After watching your 3 tours it has me sold. What I was impressed with is that the workers were not running and going so fast like they are under the gun. The workers were not slamming things together. Appears quality is a big concern with this company. I know this was done 3 years ago but still want to thank you for the tours. Just found you today when searching the Outdoor RV's. Subscribed today and now I guess I need to do some binge watching now.

That was an excellent tour. I currently own a 2021 Nash 22H off the grid model and my punch list of warranty items was the electric side of the water heater didn’t work. I called the dealer and they told me of a carefully concealed switch that was in the off position. End the problem. I also owned a 2000 Arctic Fox 22H for 18 years and it never had any problems. The Northwood family of products are all about quality. 👍👍

Indeed, we have been shopping for a LONGGGGGG time, and couldn’t find anything better made & designed on the market! Believe me, we have been shopping...and are fine connaisseurs ;-). So we did it! And we will be trailing 4500 km to & back to get it home!!! Across Canada for Outdoors RV? Indeed! Thanks again for this great review! We will plan to visit...once this crisis is behind us! All the best! Remi (Montreal, Canada)

Ya, what are the specs of The Rubber Cover Roofing ?, Here`s a good time to make a selling point. it`s easy to see they love their Product and making changes through the years. They use these Campers too. Maybe the roof should be made as good as the undercarriage/floor . I`m thinking Submarine You have a Good Post I'm a newbie to all this ...

Matt & Diana - Great job on this 3 part review of the factory process, I learned a lot about their RV's. I'm now including the Back Country Series Four Seasons in my short list along with the NASH. I would like to see aluminum roof trusses and more aluminum framing in general in place of any wood framing. Also, I would like to see that fiberglass cap on the Back Country too. Other items I would like to see on the 2021 model: U-Dinet on the slide out, get rid of all floor vents as they trap dirt and are hard to clean out and put on the new auto leveling package too. If these items are on the 2021 Back Country Series it will be a no brainer when I purchase in one year from now. Thanks!

Thank you very much for the video, I’ve watched literally 100 different videos now the good and bad on all RV trailers. This video definitely narrow it down to Outdoors RV. Watching this 3 part manufacturing series absolutely make you appreciate what goes into building a RV from scratch. I only wish they use some lighter wood on the cabinets. Lighter cabinets would feel more spacious The only drawback is that it shows up more imperfections. There’s a lot of videos out there that almost put you off wanting to even buy an RV because they so badly made. Problems with the slide outs, problems with the frames actually cracking. Has that ever happened to any of outdoor RV anyone ?

Quality is better than most. Still not perfect, have a new 2021 21DBS that showed up at the dealer with a hole in the black tank. Not sure how this would escape the quality control at the factory. Yes, I’m in PA and like to vacation north and south out of season, colder and hotter. I like their workmanship and plans but they do need to solve some insulation issues before I would buy one. Uninsulated frame and using foils as insulation loses me. I can buy that cr*p from Indiana by the ton for a lot less $$$. Solve those and give us some dealers!

Great series, well done. They look like they have a good work ethic and care a lot about the Customers' satisfaction. I first learned about their 5th wheel as it was recommended by several people. Then learned about the T/T's. All look to be very well made especially for boondocking. I'm a little disappointed to see EPDM roofs. I understand TPO to be a better option. I've also heard that you can't expect to find 100% of what you want. It looks like ORV gets the essentials done right.
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 4 года назад
Yup, I completely agree, you can't expect to find 100% of what you want. I like analogy that Matt says - when you move into a house, you are going to make it yours - hang up pictures, add your furniture, maybe even paint it or fix sprinkler system (like we did in our last house). Same with the RV. In our research we felt Outdoors RV got the hard-to-change-after-the-fact things right for what we wanted to do with it.

Great series! We owned a truck camper from 2011-2017 (we full-timed in it for 3 1/2 years) in which we used it for rugged backcountry travel and remote national forest camping and Camp Hosting. We were excited to run across your channel and to learn more about Outdoors RV quality. Three years ago we bought a half-ton capable travel trailer of the same brand as our former truck camper. If our suspicions are correct we will be upgrading trucks as our boondocking desires will also be increasing as once we retire next season as RV Park managers we will be returning to boondocking and also visiting as many national parks and monuments we can. We look forward to following your channel. I wonder what to build lead time is if one can actually narrow down to possibilities to one travel, LOL?
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 4 года назад
Full-timing in a truck camper for multiple years - that's an achievement! Thanks for following along! I hope you will get ideas for places to visit and explore :) For the lead times for Outdoors RV - it depends on the model. They build their trailers in batches and certain models may only be built a few times a year. Give them a call, they share their production schedule if people ask.

Absolutely terrific videos of the construction and we thank all involved. Loved the detail that Darren and Dave explained but would love if someone could please add an addendum to this 3-part series. We own at F28RKS, bought because we were convinced the quality is better than their competition. 1/ In particular, I was really anticipating the installation of roof insulation in Part 3, but it was either cut or not done. I'd like to see in detail how the insulation is placed among the vents, trusses, wiring etc. 2/ I'd really like to see and know how the front cap is installed, with all the framing etc behind. This includes detailed construction of the 5th wheel front cap area too, as our 2016 28RKS had to come back for factory 'enhancement' due to substandard construction of the front cap/pinbox area. Any chance we can see more on these items? Thanks CN
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 4 года назад
Hey GeeBee, we were filming through a regular work day and their assembly line has breaks at certain intervals. When we happened to go through the roof building sections the workers were on break and we didn't see them actually put in stuff as we were filming closely. But I did catch a glimpse of it in the timelapse from further away at 04:57. At 04:52 you can see how it looks before the front cap is installed. But unfortunately we didn't catch workers installing the front cap at the time we were near that section of the assembly line. Will keep your questions in mind if we ever do another factory tour at Outdoors RV.
@mpenner2124
@mpenner2124 4 года назад
I have looked at them and I agree that the insulation is less than they say in the roof just like others posted about no insulation at the frame members. For one thing that foil up there is R nothing with no air gap, not R15. I am writing on the East Coast and when power fails in Maine in December, all those “details” matter. Claims don’t. A tent trailer is certified 4 season as long as you have enough power and fuel directed to all the right places. The cabinets up at the cap can have a lot of cold or hot air flow somehow. I have read other complaints about that in the owners groups.

Fantastic tour of Outdoors RV. I was excited to purchase one of these until I saw they use Luan and plywood on the roof. Leaks happen eventually, and unfortunately as you know having experienced one yourselves, once wood is wet mold is inevitable. Outside of that, I love the build quality and would purchase one of these in a heartbeat. What a shame.

Great video series! I've gone on a few plant tours in Elkhart and the difference between them & Outdoors RV is astonishing. Elkhart plants are dirty and dimly lit which leads to poorly constructed RVs. I have the 21 foot Rd. I love it and living it full time. However there are a few quirks, but they work out overtime. The scariest was when I was sitting at home and a water line blew off underneath the stove. I shut the water off immediately and my landlord help me out it was an awkward valve that should have been different in the outdoor RV plan. We managed to reconnect it but it is still kind of sketchy.

I think all RVs should be built by RU-vid commenters, so many experts here with extensive RV design and construction experience (apparently).

Not that I heard of. But the sister company Northwood Manufacturing makes Artic Fox truck campers that also has high build quality.

How long does it take to heat your water cause I'm considering these rvs but fear not having a tankless water heater cause of loss of water during the heating process. only because I plan to do a lot in the colder winter temps in the high mountains in Idaho, Montana etc
@AdventurousWay
@AdventurousWay 4 года назад
We did some testing and found that the electric water heater takes about 30 minutes to heat the 6-gallon tank from around ambient to hot. It's slightly quicker using propane, and quicker still if you turn on both the propane and electric water heaters at the same time. While many prefer the tankless style, we actually prefer having a hot water tank. Not only does it mean we are carrying a little more water onboard (great for boondocking) but we can also heat the water with solar during the day and shower in the evening - saving propane.

We bought a 2022 260RLS Titanium Blackstone. I've stuck a camera in the floor heating vents and it looks like some nails have puntured through the venting. How could that happen? I was hoping to see how the venting was attached to figure out why mine has punctured venting. My dealer is Bish's of Cheyenne who would keep my trailer for 3 months. We are full timing and can't manage without it that long.

I was hoping they were using Aluminum roof trusses. I’d like to see a fiberglass or at least a TPO roof. Just because we’ve always used EPDM doesn’t make it the end all. I feel like they should commercial 60 mil TPO for a great protection.

You should see what I can do to a TPO roof with diesel power and a sharp object overhead (broken tree branch). "Great protection" is relative.

If they really do PDI on every single trailer, how do people get brand new RVs with missing parts, screws through their plumbing, kinked plumping lines, non-functional refer, etc? Worst one I saw was a literal hole in the roof where the solar panels were supposed to be but were never installed. All these incidents from recent (past 18 months) reviews.

Thank you so much for this series of videos! Question for you as Outdoors RV owners: I saw a complaint regarding aluminum framed trailers, in that they don't insulate as well as wood framed ones, since the aluminum tubing conducts heat/cold far mor readily, and that "in cold weather you can see the outline of the frame on the walls", due to the cold conduction. Have you noticed this???
@ReflectedMiles
@ReflectedMiles 4 года назад
If you happen to visit the factory at the right time, on a very frosty day in the morning usually, and check out a unit that has been brought from outside in or vice-versa not too long ago, you can see that occur right there! They are well aware. It's true of all brands with that design except the few that are thermally broken (DRV, some Triple E motorhomes from Canada). It's gotten a lot more attention in the last few years. Hopefully Northwood will copy Triple E's lamination scheme, or a similar one, and solve it.

Also aluminum does not rust or dry rot like wood framed trailers and is significantly lighter. I would like to see the trailer steel galvanized rather than painted. I think galvanized steel rusts less than painted steel when the paint chips or wears off. There is a reason boats (especially saltwater) used galvanized steel or aluminum trailers. Would like to see these nice quality trailers a little lighter. Good video and overall quality trailer.

I bought a 2021 FQS22 love the design but I did not get the quality they are touting. Found missing screws , cracked wood pieces in furniture and cabinets, severe cold air leaks in USB ports and 110 outlets , air gaps in slide outs , poor sealing lines around exterior outlets staples showing in many areas. Topped off with a screw that fell into sealer near solar panel. Cleary a poor build. Have appointment with our dealer. They have been awesome to work with. Hoping they are equipped to repair our unit to what one would expect a $40,000.00 22’ trailer to be. Sorely disappointed.

Why can't RV manufacturers Put a dual steering mechanism in their diesel pushers as well as all R v's over 40'. It seems like it would make steering so much more easy. So that particular manufacturer could actually say hes got something that no one else does.

Why does this guy keep saying "marine grade plywood?" I did 10 years in the Navy and have alot of small boat experience....There is no such thing as marine plywood...Just another buzz word the industry is using to try and trick the gullible consumer.
@matthewcrino5826
@matthewcrino5826 2 года назад
There "is" such a thing as "Marine Grade Plywood". There are multiple grades, thicknesses and sizes of sheets. It differs from pressure treated plywood in that the laminations are "not chemically treated" to resist moisture but the adhesive between laminations is waterproof. This keeps the laminations from separating if exposed to water. Feel free to Google it for a lot more information regarding Marine Grade Plywood.
