PetSmart fish tank quality is a big question with so many aquariums leaking. The quality and types of fish tanks at PetSmart is a wide range. I talk about some of the different brands and sizes.
Fish tank thoughts:
My poor boy is sick one of his sister passed due to dropsy and I’m afraid he may be heading that way. 5 gal long tank, temp at 79F with IAL, ammonia 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, total water hardness 150, total chlorine 0, total alkalinity 40, ph 7.2 test done at Petsmart. I’ve given 2 salt bath already 25mins each time in the past 3 days. He’s got a couple Tony snails as tank mates.
ah. well, most of the beneficial bacteria that cycle tanks is actually in the filters. there's very little in the substrate, unfortunately. I'd remove your little guy if he's feeling so lethargic and transfer him to a container, do daily water changes. see if he picks up then. I have a little tank but not a heater small enough to go in the tank to keep him warm. I did a 50% water change yesterday. Going to give him another salt bath when I get home today.
Hi everyone! Thank you for the add. We bought a 10 gallon fish tank and would like to have a betta as the main fish, what other fish and algae eater creatures would you recommend? I did a little bit of research and was given bad info from the pet store and with our first round we bought a betta, 6 flame tetra, and a pleco. All died but the pleco and I am returning him to the store. What love not to mess up and make sure I have long living and healthy fish. I have own bettas in the past but new to the large tank and other type of fish. Thanks. RIP shark.
I like having a nerite snail or two in a 10 gallon if I'm looking for algae control. I prefer mystery snails, and while they do clean, they produce about an equal amount of waste, but they're a lot more "Showy" and fun to watch. You could do a school of like 6 harlequin rasboras depending on your filter. All I have in my betta's 10 gallon is my betta and 2 gold Mystery snails. Theresa Okay, I'm not trying to offend you, just trying to understand your experience so i can make a proper recommendation. Is your tank cycyled? How long did you cycle it for? Are you having an algae problem currently? and what is your water change schedule and how much do you change of it. (All these play a factor into what to get).
so I am new to this and just learned about cycling the tank, so no it has not yet been cycled, once I get the pleco removed I will begin the cycle process. We just started this tank Saturday and per the store assistants recommendations, poor advice as I am now aware. The water was tested twice since the other fish died, so i did a 25% water chance and added stress zyme and stress coat to it. I can add pictures or what the test was before and after the water change.
PetSmart fish tanks Ate worth the money. So I tried posting a video but my phone is being weird. I would test the tap water once you get your kit. My tap water has .5ppm ammonia in it, so when you're fish in cycling, lots say change the water at .25 of more. For me that doesnt work. I changed at 1ppm or higher, but I dosed with prime every day.
ANYWAYS, back to your original question. At the moment I wouldnt get anything. When you get your tank cycled, I would ask yourself a question. Do you really have an algae problem? Most people don't, or they think they do. A little bit of Algae isnt bad, but a snail or even 10 won't solve that problem. Having a good filter setup, a good water change schedule, making sure your tank isn't by a window, etc, will prevent algae. I think Mystery Snails are fun to watch, which is why I have them. I also wanted to keep the bio load on my Betta tank low so I don't have to pay as much attention to the maintenance. But I keep debating about adding 6 rasboras. But I wouldn't until you're cycled.
I would first like to recommended to please buy a different heater and thermometer. I've had the 10 gallon and the heater isn't the right temp you set it and the thermometer says a totally different temp. Also can you please tell me.how you Introduced your tetras into the tank? I would say yes but other will say no. Mine yes for hides and food. My snail and shrimp will eat the dyeing plant leaves so it's a yes for me.
I think you're misinterpreting the tone of some of the posts. The OP was joking and is well aware of what the fish is, but that aside the only posts I saw were those who thought he was serious and correcting him, and others playing along with the joke. I don't see anything that's out of line. If you don't know about a fish, don't hesitate to ask. Hey, a lot of us do know each other from this group and other various groups so you're going to see some playful, banter type stuff. Remember not to try and extrapolate tone from texts as things don't always come across the way we intend them to with words on a screen.
