I played with my first LPVO a few weeks ago, it does so much really well. But I love the weight savings and how compact a rds is. Imma stop being poor and get me a lpvo before too long.
A few other advantages to red dots (from a more domestic, CONUS perspective): 1 - Battery life is long enough that it is entirely practical to leave the sight on (this may matter to someone using his rifle as a bedside gun). 2 - No ocular settings to go out of adjustment and easy interchangeability between multiple users (your wife and son for example). 3 - Much easier to shoot with consistently from weird positions especially with the non-dominant eye. Although the eyebox of LPVOs have improved dramatically over the past decade, none have what is essentially the unlimited eyebox and infinite eye relief of a red dot. LPVO's are awesome, but for my own use cases anyway, an RDS is a perfectly sufficient if not the superior option. Different tools for different purposes and all that I guess
My eyes are a little fucky so I;ve preferred the RDS for the past couple of years but I think I'm finally coming around on LPVOs. It took some time to get my brain and my eyes calibrated so I could use my buddy's setup with both eyes open but it's definitely the better choice at range.
My eye sight disproportionately influences my choice for optics on my rifle caliber guns. I curious what Chuck thinks about the mini-ACOG 1.5x16 instead of a traditional red dot.
Came across this video doing some LPVO research. Im curious, what do you think about the new Vortex 1-10? The 1-6 has obviously become the standard. Is the 1-10 the new standard or going to become the new standard? It’s the same footprint as the E model and the same weight. What’s to lose?
Got both setups. I even dropped my Trijicon 1-8 for a straight up ACOG with ACSS reticle because its light as fuck and I can Binden aim better with an ACOG than an LPVO on "1 power". 4 power with 5.56 just makes sense with max effective and my engagement ranges in my current AO...If I'm going to Afghanistan again, damn right I'm taking a LPVO...Even then, that shit is getting QD'd for a red dot when it's time for night snatches or even go "meet the local grey beard" so the officers can try to cut shitty agreements when they have no people skills, type of missions.
