I think you will absolutely get called by the small town AD. Especially since you’re not asking for a Sub, which even they can barely keep up with the demand. My AD is of a medium sized city, and they absolutely need the business, unless it’s for a sub (that’s what they told me)
The thing is, in small town there is no big money flow but in larger cities can be difficult to compete with other people, lots of money circulating so they can play since is higher demand.
I had a similar positive experience. I have purchase history (just one other watch), but not a Rolex (this was a large Jeweler that sells Rolex among other brands). Lady liked me, we bonded over vintage Rolex. I told her I liked the VNTR GMT and she said she'd put me down. Gave me a Rolex booklet, and the next day she emailed me to let me know that she sent my request to Rolex. Fingers crossed. I was just nice and normal with her. I didn't employ any crazy strategy. She made me feel like it wasn't ridiculously low odds for me to get the watch. We'll see, I'm trying to not get my hopes up.
its a myth. there are no lists. if an AD takes to you, remembers you and you have purchase history and they favour you then you "may" get lucky. That's it.
Nope. There are lists. When you express your interest in a timepiece, normally (if you have some spend history) you will be allocated more desirable pieces that you have asked for. But i do agree, if it's your 1st purchase its a myth. But the lists are real, believe it or not
I found that they are trying to keep it local so people don't just call every dealer in the country. I have one from a 400k size city and so cal, and I have a similar chance just I can get the panda or sky dweller at the small city
Rural AD def best strategy. Also attend with your wife… I got 2 great models within 6 months from Dec 2022.- for wife and me 50th gifts. Also getting the Rolex books from them is a good sign.
36mm Explore is relatively easy to get. I put my name on 3 ADs and got call from 1 of them the next day - I was lucky. I think the chances are equal at both ADs especially for Explore 36mm because it is not a popular one.
In my experience, I believed the waitlist is real because they called me 3x within a 2-1/2 year period and bought 2 watches from them and declined the last one they offered me.
My local AD has waitlists to merely view the watches, and once that’s out of the way, you need to get on the second list to purchase the watch you just looked at. Flawed, rattly watches being this difficult to obtain? Yikes.
The reality is, only Rolex matters. Most all the other brands will lose money. The AD list thing is bullshit. I’ve been on the “list” for a RootBeer or a DayDate 40 for like two years. Even owning other Rolex models, I’ve received zero love. I still check in from time to time, but nothing.
