Are SIU's Blogposts Even Canon?

I've always said that you should treat the blog post info as "what you would hear in the Tower". The truth that we get in the actual story about these important lore characters might differ, but these are just the basic rumors that you'd hear living in the Tower. The issue is that the blogposts are not just almost always true to canon, but that SIU will often throw out characters and concepts in the main story without any extra explanation, that you wouldn't really know without the info in the blog posts. I do still think that the blog posts(at least the early ones) are something that everyone reading ToG should read.

I consider the info from the blogposts as the first draft of an idea that SIU wanted to share that probably won’t be exactly the same once introduced into the story

So, there’s mainly two ways I handle the blogposts: In the strictest sense of canon, as in, what is mentioned in the story is what is canon, and nothing else, then no, they are not canon But how I generally like to treat it is that the blogposts are SIUs intentions to expand upon the world in ways he hasn’t been able to do so while in the arcs he’s telling, and so the blogposts are his intentions for the story he is making And so in that sense, I treat it as “canon until proven not to be”. Although, him taking it down could be how he has come to reconsider some things. But I will say that so far, the only thing directly retconned was the whole Yama thing with Bayroad and Immort and such. Other than that, things have lined up with the blogposts just fine But I also think that Bassoon Sonata’s take would work with me as well

I think blog posts don't NEED to be considered cannon. But they have merit as grounds for theories.

I think one of the most important things that we all take for granted and cannon is the ranking of the strongest 20’s, without it actually be confirmed inside the story excepting cases like Urek or Jahad (I think their top 4 and 3 were confirmed in the story maybe not, I dont remember) and maybe some other strong character that I am forgetting, but I just reminded myself that because of the fight we got recently between Urek and Grace where I personally thought because of the information of their respective rankings that we got, that Urek was about to wipe the floor with Grace and it didn’t happen, true he said he was restraining himself but still. My point is that maybe even those rankings are changeable by SIU when he actually write or mention them in the story, or maybe it’s what another comment by Haku said that these post can be taken as “the rumors circulating in the tower” in this way the ranking that SIU gave us can be taken as either a very old one (who knows how these people in the top fight over their positions, I cant imagine them fighting every 100 years to see who has grow stronger) or maybe it was simply their respective power levels that the people has granted them over time and knowing their very important positions either as family heads, the king of the tower, the regular that fought on par with Arie Hon (Urek), the commander of the King’s army(Adori Jahad), the leader of wolkhaisong (Baek), the leader of FUG (grace) or the three lords, etc.

Would you consider the stuff about axis etc semi-canon? Personally, looking at how long tog already is, I find it pretty difficult to believe that siu will have time to introduce the concept in the story

But what I also often say is a big factor in making something canon. It has to be officially published material. So if you were to do it like the one piece sbs than blogpost can become canon. Otherwise „the love interest/heroine of the story is alligator“ (SIU)

The only thing that's canon is webtoon. Blogposts are not canon imo. This also means the term "Axis" isnt even canon

I just take it with a grain of salt, he removed them for a reason, they’re more like source material he took from and altered as time progressed, the only thing I keep somewhat serious is Phentaminum and that’s strictly because he was mentioned in season 1, the whole Axis thing not so much until we learn in the story about it

He must not be sick anymore, seriously though hope you're doing better Joe (Edit) In my humble opinion I don't think the community should be overreacting about certain posts getting taken down by SIU and such and I believe everyone he has made is canon until proven otherwise My basis for this is well, personal experience As a small time writer ik the feeling of wanting to add more to your storys story and there being things fans are curious about that aren't explained in the main story so I believe SIU uses his posts to address these things as many and as often as positive as for why he'd remove any I think it would due with current and near future writing for the story of Tog

Someone's gotta get him out of the 7DS Also about the mobile games, I think only New World can be treated as having canon information since it's the one SIU was consulted on. The game, aside from being a way to tell ToG's story in a mobile adaptation, seems to be a way to expand on character's backstories that we haven't received in the manwha. The latest event with Lero Ro and Yuri, as well as the Khun Family event, the Endorsi Halloween event, and the Vicente short story, all exist to expand a character and their relationships with others. As for how canon New World is, I'd say while you can't necessarily take the events and short stories as 100% canon, I do think the emotions behind it (such as Kiseia's relationship with Khun or Endorsi's guilt) could be considered canon.

I was talking to my friend about TOG, he just caught up to the recent chapters... and i started talking about rankings. He asked me how do i know these things. My immediate response was the blogpost dude. And i started wondering whether they were cannon or not.

No. If it isn’t in the story or a sequel or spin off that the author confirms is canon it is not. If he wanted his tidbits to be canon he could put them at the end of each volume like other authors do

I feel like SIU's blogposts are out there to see how the fans will react to specific ideas. If people react well, then maybe that idea will become canon later on.

I feel like the more "world-buildy" blogposts are generally more likely to be true, since usually even in a first draft, the worldbuilding should be fairly consistent. So stuff about Wolhaiksong's founding, FUG, and the Tperie family seems more likely to be canon, since they form the foundation of the ToG world (not to mention, the Opera Lighthouse has been brought up before, so it's supports the theory of the Light Bearing family). Yama's backstory seems more like an exception than the rule, and depending on how it's seen, it's not *as* integral to the world as, say, an entire great family. Of course, any info not officially published in the webtoon should always be taken with a few grains of salt (if not a whole bucket), but I think for some information we've been given in the blogposts, it's safe to think of them as "canon" if only just to be able to reference them more easily.

This sounds similar to Star Trek and "beta canon" when referring to books, comics, and games. They are to be considered "canon" unless contradicted by "alpha canon" being TV and Movies. I guess blog posts would be TOG beta canon.

The interesting thing is that SIU has an in-universe law preventing things from being rewritten once they happen in the Tower, or universe (I forget which one). On a spin-off thought; this means that, on the off 0.0000000000001% chance backwards time travel happens in the plot, the current timeline wouldn't be able to be rewritten and any events being changed would be a seperation from the original story.

Im 100 sure tower of god main villain stronger than end of rachel ability , 10 great family , bam's mother / father , urek , jahad , all administrator , headon and enryu combined and lower than phantamanium or hybid irregular / axis type beings .

The blogposts are like Star Wars legends are to the modern canon story. Bits and pieces are use but the canon story is still independent from those materials.

If it's not writen in the main text/source itself (webtoon in this case) then it's not part of the story, simple as that.

Tower of God games are absolute trash, both of them. One has like 4 versions of only female charachters (stupid rachel, lolita rachel, bikini rachel eww etc.) the other one after few month does collab when it has plenty of actual manwha characters to add to the game.Just wanted to point that out

I think tower of god author SIU blogspot are max 90% are canon and 10% non canon . That's not matter even not including in main story .
