TaylorMade is re-entering the premium milled putter category with the release of the TP Reserve family of blades and mallets. TaylorMade TP Reserve putters feature traditional shapes and high levels of craftsmanship, and a $399 price, so they are competing with Scotty Cameron, Ping PLD, Toulon Design and Bettinardi. Discover everything you need to know about the TaylorMade TP Reserve putters, and then let me know your thoughts in the comment area below.

I had the TM reserve M47 and sold it. Went back to my trusty Odesey 2 ball AI milled.

As my putting skills and ability to read greens has improved over the years, I've found myself moving from mallet to blade type putters. They feel more precise. At least to me. A Bettinardi SS18 was my putter of choice for a couple years and did really well for me. Feeling there was still a little room for improvement, I moved over to a Scotty Newport 2.5+. The slant neck of the Scotty provided a better flow of the club head for me thru the stroke than the plumbers neck of the SS18. A short time after my Scotty purchase, Taylormade introduced their Reserve putters and my son wanted to head to the golf shop to have a look at the newly introduced B13. We spent over an hour putting with all of the high end Newport style putters - Scotty, Bettinardi, Ping, Odyssey, even the new Cleveland and Wilson offerings. Actually, everything in the putter coral. The B13 stood out with a beautiful easy end over end roll off the milled face. I was really impressed. My son bought it. For nearly a month, each time we went to the practice green or the course, we'd compare his B13 to my Newport 2.5+. The Scotty is a lovely putter, well made and a great performer. However, it soon became apparent that I putt better with the B13. I also like the grip of the B13 better. And the head cover. None of the cheap velcro that i wish Scotty Cameron would get rid of. It has the magnets. Needless to say, I took up the offer from my local shop on their 90 day guarantee and swapped for the B13. As beautifully crafted as the Scotty and the Bettinardi putters are, the B13 holds its own. And my son just says, "You're deadly with that thing". LOL. I wouldn't go back.

Thanks for the comment and note. As golfers evolve and their skills change, what they need from their equipment evolves and changes too. As long as a putter's length, lie angle and balance match your stroke style and setup, you can putt consistently and successfully with a variety of putters, but what your testing revealed is that YOU appear to perform better with a mallet than a blade. In time, that could change, but hopefully you can see the value of testing. I wish more retailers and venues offered the 90-day guarantee (or something similar) that your store has. Custom fitting is rarely done outside for logistical reasons, but there is no substitute for using clubs on the course and seeing how they perform on grass, in the elements and when you are playing on the course. Enjoy your putter and I hope that you will subscribe to my channel - DD

I want that M21, I like the plumbers neck. I currently use a Ardmore 3 putter, I really like it but Ive been putting horribly this year, would love an M21 buy damn thats a lot of money for a putter
@DavidDusek
@DavidDusek Год назад
It's a lot of money, no doubt, but if you bought your Ardmore 3 when it was new back in 2018 or so, that means you go five years out of it. And, if you're like most recreational golfers, you will use your putter more than any other club. It's not my place to talk you into buying anything, but I think most golfers would be happy if a new driver lasted five seasons. Regardless, talk to a good custom fitter and see if there is something that you could do with your current putter to get the magic back. Maybe something as simple and quick (and inexpensive) as adjusting the lie angle or the loft? Maybe a new grip will help or getting the length adjusted? Just a few thoughts. - DD

@@DavidDusek I appreciate the response! I bought the ardmore 2 years ago for $100 on ebay lol, I just got back into the game after basically 10 years and my putter was stolen and I knew I wanted a fanged mallet and I was still a taylormade fanboy, I've putt great with it I feel like its more mental than anything right now.

Look at a Cleveland soft milled. These Taylor Made TP’s are in the Bettinardi/Scotty territory and you can’t get a premium milled putter for $200 unless it’s used

David excellent review and very informative, thanks. If you would like to donate that blade short neck putter that was in your left hand in video, I would gladly take it off your hands, if 35 inches. Let me know if you need my mailing address to fed-x it. Have a good one. If it helps me to get that putter, I did just subscribe to your channel for ALL videos. May you hit nothing but fairways and greens.

@@DavidDusek Already did subscribe. On a serious note, when you get clubs from the companies, do you have to return them? I could live with a 34 inch if you are still offering, LOL. Still trying so maybe now an A+??? Take care.

During COVID, brands did not want anything coming back, but typically I tell companies to include return postage and I send equipment made available to me back to manufacturers. I also donate some things to First Tee, and police and fire departments in my area.

Im sure that the TM's are good putters but LAB Putters are night and day better. Completely balanced, no toe torque and really smooth.

performance is one thing but the LAB putters are so ugly. To me as a pro that matters.

@@camlancaster The DF2.1 is ugly but is one of the bast putters ever designed. The MEZZ and Link designs look like most mallet and anser putters. I guess looks are more important to you than sinking more putts.

Well what’s more important your driver or putter? I’d argue putter. Top of the line drivers are $500+
@melvinsacromentoe
@melvinsacromentoe Год назад
But do putters really do anything. I’d argue it’s more about comfort than technology, you see pros using old puttersall the time
@DavidDusek
@DavidDusek Год назад
This is an old debate, but I don’t think it’s easy to answer. If a golfer who struggles to break 90 can start hitting three or four more fairways per round with his driver, that would likely mean fewer bogeys and double bogeys, so his score would go down. Is that worth $500? At the same time, an expensive, properly-fit putter can easily cost $400 and help a player save a few strokes per round on the greens. Personally, I think they are the two most important clubs in the bag.
@DavidDusek
@DavidDusek Год назад
If a putter is custom fit to a golfer, comfort can definitely be improved, but many modern putters have fantastic technologies designed into them which can really help golfers overcome shortcomings. Professional golfers practice they’re putting several times per week and once they find a putter, they like, many stick with it for years. They develop a trust in it, and an enhanced sense of feel and touch. Recreational golfers, who rarely practice their putting, can definitely benefit from some forgiveness and game-improvement technologies that are designed into many modern putters.
