I recently did a putter fitting and thought it was a very good and informative experience where I was able to learn a lot about my stoke and technique. Wound up getting a new odyssey OG white hot fang style putter and I absolutely love it. Great info as always from both of you, keep up the good work and love the content!
A few years ago, I wanted a Scotty. Went to the proshop, tried a few SC and a few other putters for "justification". Long story short, I now play a Cleveland and I'm very happy! It just felt a bit better and was costing a bit less... No fancy cover initially, but then I can buy funny ones, or covers from famous courses I play, or whatever...
James thanks for the review. If you need to get rid of or donate those putters, I'd like to volunteer my self to get one. Let me know please. Doesn't hurt to ask. Be well and may you hit nothing but fairways and greens.
I'm still using a Ping Anser made in the 1980s. No milled face, no inserts, no removable weights, not even any alignment lines! I've tried the spiders and 3-balls and I hated them. They cause me to focus on all the shit on the head instead of just making a good stroke with the right speed.
Slowly building my set. First had a spalding blade putter, then a TNT, now have my first mallot of some unknown brand, yet it has textured face and three alignment sights and a decent grip. Unless i can upgrade to something at a thrift store ill stick with what i got until then.
I will probably keep my Studio 2.5 in the bag until the face caves in. So it will be a long time before I'm the market for a new putter. With that being said, I do like the simple elegance of these TM putters. I don't need a lot of flash and color on the putter. It's purpose is to put the ball in the hole, not make my bag look like a flower pot. So, if I ever need a new flat stick, I'll definitely take a look at these along with maybe some of the M-craft line by Mizuno.
Been in a T22 Limited since 2019. Yes it cost me $700 but I can easily get at least that back after using it for 3+ years every round. Thats why SC dominates. No other putter holds value like they do.
Yep that is certainly a factor in buying clubs. Very few manufacturers have good resale value. Most clubs lose at least 30% value as soon as you walk out of the store. After some use, they lose 50%. Scottys don’t do that.
Yeah, but it's all kind of annoying in the fact that it is simply a self-fulfilling prophecy in a very tricky golf club category. For me, being a putter designer, to even consider charging one of my customers $700 for a head that cost me about $35-50.00 to produce is too ridiculous to even fathom.
Scottys are Collectors clubs for sure. And if it works for you on the course better than the rest, even better. For some golfers, they want a statement putter in their bag. Others want whatever works best, which is why there are some really ugly putters out there. If your T22 is doing both for you, you've hit the Bonus. Congrats.
Im a putter geek. Give me a putter video over a driver one any day! I love the feel of milled putters. I’ve had Scotty Camerons, Ping PLDs, Mizunos, Toulons, Kronos’, Bettinardis and about 5 or six different heads on most of those models too. But for some reason nothing comes close to my Wilson Staff Model BL22
Been using a Newport for 2 years and love it, but tried a Bettirnardi BB-F yestrday and have never felt anything like it, also didn't help when I made 6 straight putts from 20 feet. But had to leave it $$$
I dont think i could put with a blade putter if i wanted to, as i love my old oddesey white steel 3 ball srt with a supersteoke pistol gt 2.0 grip... just sank a 35ft birdie put with it yesterday...
I've played Scotty's for years...I've always wanted a Scotty "Notchback" but I'm lefty & they have never made one for us leftys...So this Taylormade version really has caught my eye!! Thanks for another great video James!! P.S. I think putters are SEXY!! lol
I recently purchased a 2020 Scotty Special Select Newport 2. Do I putt any better? Probably not, but I can’t use the excuse “I need a better putter anymore”.
Replaced my Scotty Newport 2 with an Odyssey White Hot #7 last year. The Odyssey is half the price and a much better putter for me. Not saying Odyssey is a superior product, more likely switching from a blade to a mallet was the change I needed. A huge improvement was longer distance lag putting... went from 2 or 3 3-putts a round to less than 1 on average. Doubt I will ever go back to a blade.
Have Newport 2.5 in the bag and love it but these look just as good, if it feels better than my scotty then I would definitely change once I’ve saved up.
Taylormade have tried this before with the Kia Ma line of milled putters... but they didnt stick with it long enough like odyssey have with Toulon to get a market share
I have been putting with the Mizuno OMOI blade putter with 13g weights in. Absolutely love it! I’m a lefty so scotty camerons are hard to find for us. Would definitely go scotty though. They just are like the mecca of putters
Cool putter! Question, purely from a perspective of my personal curiosity to hear the opinions of other golfers: what makes a SC putter the mecca of putters?
@@jaxongolf to be honest the hype of the professional usage is what gives it the prestige. I haven’t been able to find one to actually put with personally. Have used fellow golfers and they feel amazing. They are not crazy forgiving on off center putts but yeah haven’t brought myself to the $500 price tag either
@@Tooheymatt24 More players play Odyssey putters on tour more often than a Scotty, and Scotty's market share is decreasing with the rise of fantastic brands like Evnroll, SIK and LAB just to name a few. Scotty has made its reputation on a very high quality product and a vast array of designs with additional variants offered with plumber's necks, fluted hosels, etc. so it's pretty certain one can find a putter they fancy from the current repertoire and looking back throughout their legacy products. If pros are putting a Scotty in the bag that are not a paid Titleist staff athlete, the most likely answer is the sheer prolific number of demo putters Titleist leaves strewn about at every tour event's practice greens, never missing the opportunity to catch a pro on an off-putting week. They have unquestionable value...that is still no where ever close to the asking price. Self-fulfilling prophecy in late-era Capitalist America.
I'm looking at the Bettinardi line. Same price point as the SC but i like the unique looks better and love the feel. Just a matter of what model at this point.
Got fitted for a bb-28 a couple of weeks ago. Make sure you try it. I tried them all, including quite a few Scotty's. The bettinardi bb-28 is brilliant. It's a solid block of stainless steel, but it somehow feels soft off the face. Makes a great noise too. I'm in love with it.
@@davidoconnor3201 i did try it today. sadly they only had one in stock. It had the small grip,i prefer the larger group. I love the looks of the Queen B line. I did prefer the weight and feel of the BB-28 I think. Hard decision when spending $430. Lol
Seen a few reviews, impressed. To make a change Taylormade needed to up the USP of this putter. My copper beryllium bullseye has entered a shared trauma relationship with me. I'm well down the sunk cost fallacy path, one day its going to pay me back!
Always wonder about the mental mystery of changing putters. If you hit yours fine, why change? If not, why not just change styles instead of manufacturer?
I was a huge fan of Scotty so purchased Newport2, Squareback2, and other Scotty mallet putters but all did not work for me. They are so sensitive. Then I've purchased and played with Odyssey putters, Evnroll putters, Seemore putters, Ping putters, etc. Trial and error for sure. Finally, I found the Taylormade Spider Tour putter that I've never thought about as a putter brand but works great for me. It gives me the really good feeling when putting And I ordered TP Reserve B31 which is on sale and I love notchback 'cause I'm old fashioned So my putters will be Taylormade Spider Tour and TP Reserve B31 alternatively
It looks very cheap compared to my £180 Cleveland Huntington Beach Milled, which is coincidentally the same price as the TP, which is coincidentally the same quality as this.
My Spider GT is super consistent and I’ve always felt that every putt I miss I know that I misread it had nothing to do with the way the putter delivered.
I’ve tried a number of putters in the past year as this is one of the worse parts of my game, but the one putter that has stuck in my bag now is the STIX putter, due to the graphite shaft all the weight is in the putter head and feels great, thick grip helping with keeping the head straight at impact and looks great all in black.
Looks great! I'd definitely consider it. I chose to go with a Ping PLD over a Scotty because of feel and I think the Newports just look like a knock off Anser
Isn't it always amazing that we've been re-sold the Anser countless times over, each new iteration promising "more" but being absolutely nothing different? Karsten Solheim was such a genius and innovator and I wish more people supported the Ping putter products with even half as much fervor as the Scotty Fans do. The SC price point is completely a self-fulfilling prophecy.
@@donkee9 both yes and no: yes (concerning the price gouging), enough to found my own putter company; no, their quality and craftsmanship are impeccable.
I really really don't like the off center R on the blades. I like how the R is in the middle in the mallet line. The M21 is what I have my eyes on, the fanged mallet with the plumbers neck.
Don’t disagree but it is a quality built product, the fit and finish is better than most…is it 100% better…probably not but I’d say it’s a good 25-30% better easy - compare an Odyssey blade to a SC and taking price away even a non-golfer would choose the SC - eg even my wife has said the SC just look and feel more premium. So not just branding but does branding juice the price? Absolutely - like anything - are BMWs 100% better than a Ford Mustang in terms of performance - nope but you pay more.
I was demo'ing the Scotty Super Select 2.5+ the last several weeks. Lots to like there. However, I did some head 2 head comparisons for the last 3 weeks with the B13 out on course for multiple rounds. Scotty is really good. The B13 definitely rolls the ball better. Better grip as well. Better head cover. And if i can offer a word to Titleist on putter head covers, GET RID OF THE VELCRO CLOSURES. Awful. My new Taylormade is 1st rate all the way around. Update - The B13 has been awesome for me. I love this putter. I would buy it again.
Where are they made ??? I struggle to pay a premium price for a putter made in China where the cost of goods is obviously lower than one made in Japan or USA...
The issue is its just taylormade, not toulon which is sean toulon, or Cameron which is scotty. Its taylormade. Hard to have the consumer psychology associate it with premium
Spending that sort of money the question is why would you not get a Scotty? Loads of models, loads of options, custom options etc etc Make these TM putters more like £200-250 perhaps they might get some customers.
Golf manufacturers love to do this to get money from the masses. What matters with any club-does it help you get the ball in the hole in as few as strokes as possible. High end putters are a money generating tactic. Scotty C's Newports are copies of the Ping Anser, so on and so forth. Looks fine, probably putts fine, but for the $$$, a lot more value out there
Bought a used Scotty Futura XM7 over the winter and putting became much better. Only 1 or none in the 3 putt department per round now. Making many more putts in the 8 to 10 foot range now. Don't really care about the name, just want a flat stick that performs.
Joe Toulon already kills Scotty in feel, and his custom 303SS putters you can buy don't cost 1000-5000. Plus, Joe actually knows what proper milling is. Deeper the better
I would get fitted first of all. If TM and Scotty were close for the fitting and close in price then I’m going Scotty. You know the Scotty is made well and can depend on it
You can never 'kill' the Scotty brand - it's legendary. I'm sure there are better putters, better value, better for your game - but brands are powerful things. It's like saying will this new watch brand kill the Rolex.
I'm happy with my Rife.....so won't be going in my bag...(unless it comes with a never miss guarantee.....lol) to quote the age old comment....it's only as good as the person using it.....
They are gorgeous but I won't be buying. Not going to help them recoup the tens of millions of dollars that they pay their spokesman which explains the horribly high price.
