Debra was very mild natured in the first season.It's only with each season she turned aggressive and loud little by little which shows her way of adapting to the in-laws.She is the only character which goes through a change in her nature because of the company she kept.

And until you have lived in that house with all of them in there with you, day after day, week after week, year after friggin' year, then you are in no position to judge me!

Ray did warn Debra about her family and she didn’t listen. So now has to live in the hell she created for herself.
