I have read quite a few of the winners of the Nordic Council Literature Prize and in this video I share my thoughts on them and the prize in general.
Have you read any of these and what is your favourite Nordic novel?

I really liked Ice Palace by Tarjei Vesaas. Birds is also so good. Nice discussion.

Totally agree! I have to reread them both at some point.

I've been planning to read some of the winners but have also always thought of these books as too serious and depressing. Sounds like maybe I'm right 😊 I haven't read Auður Ava but it seems I need to check her books out!

Yes, a lot of them are, but they could still be worth reading. I am definitely also checking out more of Olafsdottirs books soon :)

I don't think i ever read a book that won the Nordic Council Literature Prize before, but i might give by Tarjei Vesaas a try.

There are some gems there to find. I have to start digging into the older stuff. I do have a couple of them in my shelf, so will be getting to them eventually :)

My second favorite genre has always been historical fiction and I'm not quite a 60-year-old man LOL. Same for my mom. Although she's definitely old enough.

😂 I imagine that I will ONLY be reading ww2 stuff when I am in my 60s.

@@becomingabookworm That's SO funny b/c so true --- my book buddy, the guy who retired recently and is like 62, if it wasn't for what he buddy reads with me, which is TOTALLY out of his box, he would literally only read books about the Civil War and past presidents 😄😄 SNORE!!!!

'Halvbrother' wasthe only book I liked from Lars S. Christensen. I thought so as well that it was depressing but with all norwegian books, I think , they are also funny in a weird kind if way, and I like them. Do you have seen the series on NRK?

I think you’re right and I am starting to wonder if they have to be a bit strange to be funny 😅 Not seen the tv-series but I have heard good things. So far I have not really seen any tv-adaption of books I have read apart from A man called Ove :)

I hope so too. I know some of they are, but I would assume that many of them are :)

That's a disturbing number of depressingly-themed books. What is wrong with you Norwegians 😄
