Notwithstanding that this video and recent campaign play makes me acutely aware I NEED a video on the Mortuary Cult item crafting, which is how you'll get the most out of these melee heroes, don't necessarily get razzle-dazzled by the mounts, convenient as they can be - just the Rank 1 footman is armored, 55% missile block shielded, charge defence/ reflection, anti-large, armor piercing. That's an amazing combination. So, whatever shortcomings exist past that? You want them, you want more of them. I mean they Assault Units and Assassinate too...

Also worth adding that lords have a trait - "Ptra the Great Father" - which boosts Tomb Prince recruitment rank by 2 levels. It stacks and still works if the lord is off the map. It's easy to recruit Tomb Princes at rank 49 by the mid-game if you're willing to level up enough lords.

So they made canopic jar hoarder not work while wounded, but this does? Thanks!

FYI you can stack research bonus engineer lords as empire too.

this is kinda limited by the fact you can only have so many lords active at one time due to the army cap
@gavburger

@@sovietunion7643 they don't need to be active - they can be disbanded and the buff still works.

@@gavburger well yes but you still need to level up with the lords in the first place, pretty hard when early game has you limited pretty severely

Good hero, but that's to be expected. He's a linchpin unit like most Undead Heroes are for other factions, something you work your army around. Hardy and lethal when he's tricked out with some Mortuary Cult items, he has a role in pretty much any configuration. A foot Prince can tarpit a few units in artillery or archer range, and come out the otherside rehydrated by "tomato juice" or holding a flank to hunt down cavalry that's trying to wrap around to your vulnerable backline. A horse Prince is best hunting down cavalry actively, supporting the Skeleton and Nekahara Cav as they charge backline units. I don't use the Chariot lord as much as I do foot and horse variants, but he does make a good chaff mulcher on it. It's just you aren't really lacking in that role by the time you get the Chariot. Overall, I keep one in most *main* armies as I get them. Easier to use and much less likely to get sniped than the Necrotect, even if im convinced the Necro is better, so im more likely to reccomend you getting a ton of these fast. Plus, xp ranks help a lot for powerful units like Constructs, so Training is a valuable bonus. Less so for chaff, since you're recycling Skeleton spears and archers as fast as you get them, but it will help your Constructs last longer without having to replace them or stop and heal.

I agree they do great mounted on a horse. A pair of them are awesome at countering heavy cav, especially if you have enough canopic jars to give them solid gear. I learned they're especially good to defend your artillery from vargheists. I really wish they were better on chariots though, but there's just something funky about their mass that makes it impossible to cycle correctly. Next time I feel like booting up a TK game, maybe I'll try having a few roll on chariots with Settra on his to see if their combined charge makes it better.

Necro's squishier, no question. Even if not in an army, the Tomb Prince being able to assault garrison, assault units and assassinate is just plain awesome.
@OffToBattle

The mass is definitely holding the individual chariots back.

Big fan of these guys, i feel they are a little underrated. If you can get them with the Tough trait and give them Ourobouros (regen) from the mortuary cult they can do some serious work.

Among other tricks, but yes, once kitted out they can be pretty ridiculous.

That's kind of interesting. I always found the tomb princes to be frustrating. Like their stats are just super low, compared to like the kind of creatures I'd want them to fight like other faction's heroes. And physical resistance isn't great against heroes and Lords because they're going to have magic weapons. Maybe I'll have to give them another look, and you gave me some ideas.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle 15 дней назад
I largely had the same impression and kept hoping to get drops to buff them up (magic item drops) but I see now that you really "need" the crafting system to make them sing. And I'll return to this very soon. If even I was missing the mortuary cult's goodies, I need a video slowing things down and showing everyone how eye-popping the benefits can be.

I never use chariot mounts in TWWH3… they just… my Slanesh exalted chariot I got in a summon army got stuck in Goblins (greenskins) In a rear charge as well… I almost always have my princesses on foot.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle 15 дней назад
Yeah I understand. But they have gotten better, I got an exalted chariot doing impressive things when I did that video. They sucked for so long it's hard to appreciate... and low mass chariots like THIS are a problem too.

@@OffToBattle Even in small unit size where they should excel…. They really didn’t. N’ kai (LL of Slaanesh) at other hand… oh my… over 100 kills every battle. (That is a lot for small size) The devastating flanker bonus + his mass and charge… wipes like half a unit in a charge. Gotta be careful about anti large units though

Great utility Hero. He needs more diverse mount options, like other TK Lords/Heros. Tomb Kings should get a heavier melee Chariot that would have more armor, do armor piercing damage and greater anti infantry bonus than Skeletal Chariot offers and this chariot should become a mount option for TP. Its absurd that an armor piercing Tomb Prince is ineffective against armored infantry with his current Mount options. I would also give him a Necroserpent as a mount for more HP and Armor but lower speed. CA should also incorporate TP multiplayer abilities into campaign- Blade of Setep lowers enemy Physical resistance by 20% and Armor by 30. This ability makes TP exponentially more powerful as a combatant and Lord/Monster sniper. It also synergizes really well with Tombstrike/Desertstrike by buffing the Base Damage. 10:49 10:49

The Blade of Setep is a Mortuary Cult item in the campaign, you can craft as many as you want (and give them to the Lords and other heroes as well). Aside from the ability the weapon also grants +35 AP damage and magical attacks, which kinda undercuts the value of the ability and makes it more for your other units' benefit. Edit: looking at all their heroes (and generic Lord) item abilities in Skirmish, yeah those are all Mortuary Cult items.
@kirillrivkin4842
@kirillrivkin4842 14 дней назад
Thank you for clarification. Giving magic damage to the item that reduces Physical Resistance doesn't make any sense- design error- something that CA should adjust with their a hotfix. But +35 AP damage is a nice boost.

I'm still planning on doing a video on the Mortuary Cult. I finished a script on Lore of Nehehkhara (to do separately from Liche Priests etc.) but that was that for now.

I personally always hard farm for Chariot master tomb princes and use them to blend hostile infantry formations. Tomb kings anti infantry is acceptable at best until you get access to tomb scorpions and warsphinxes. However, a squadron of 2 to 3 ushabti, 2 chariot princes, and a chariot necrotect makes for a very nasty manoeuvre element for your armies that can rip apart a histile front line in seconds. I find that on foot they end up getting stunlocked too much to be usable in the antilarge role and on horseback they don't have enough mass to prevent them from getting bogged down in infantry and shot to shit. Not to mention that skeleton archers and ushabti great bows are far better in the anti large role than tomb princes anyway.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle 15 дней назад
Interesting. Since I can see you using a proper vortex spell to take advantage of it being just the heroes at a given moment... and Ushabti are rapidly growing on me, despite a certain RU-vidr dumping on them specifically 2-3 days ago...

@OffToBattle I rarely even bother with magic damage support for flanking maneuvers since liche priests are not best set up for that with the lores they have available. Maybe a Time Warp or a Doom and Darkness if the enemy proves particularly tough, but normally I use my lich priests as Net spammers in my archery focussed armies

They're fine, but it will get more interesting if/when the Tomb Kings get a generic Caster Lord. Probably reasonable for Khatep though.
@OffToBattle
@OffToBattle 15 дней назад
I've heard the original tabletop design was that their casters were like their version of Slann, the heart and core of the army, and Tomb Kings were like sub-commanders leading the assault.

@@OffToBattle My understanding is that this is somewhat the case, yeah. In fact, an army HAD to have a Liche Priest or else it just started to crumble, so I think that they were actually quite reasonably powerful.
