Today I try out tubeless for the first time on my bmx. These alienation bmx tires are a prototype at the moment and should be out in the coming months. They can be used with tubes or tubeless. Let me know what bike part you want to see tested here next!

Tubeless is great. As there's not two layers of rubber interacting with each other the sidewall is suppler giving a better performing tyre. To fix a big hole there's a small dynaplug tool you stab into the tyre that leaves a plug with a brass end on it embedded. Use a ton of Soapy water if you're having trouble seating/and or remove valve core to allow more airflow for that initial seat. I do hundreds hope it helps

Great stuff as always Mike! Would be interesting to get your thoughts on different size bars. If you swapped bars that were a little lower than your current bars and then ones that were a little higher than your current ones. Pros and cons of both and how they affected your ability on different tricks

I run the Maxxis Hookworms front and rear 2.5 tires on my bike. With the back end slammed, there’s just enough clearance. There definitely a little heavy, but there SO SMOOTH!!! I’m not too worried about weight anyways, I prefer a little bit heavier bike for the stability in the air...

glad to see you mention the premium bikes 2.4 i was running them back in 2012 when everyone else was riding 2.2 and absolutely fell in love with the wider tires. do you happen to know what model that tire is? would love to get another pair if they are still in production. The tape you used would be why it went flat. Gota use proper rim tape it's more like plastic and can handle the higher psi. Also maybe try a cush core set up.

Do you need special alienation rims for the tubeless version of these tires to work or does any rim work? Also how did your tire get flat? One last thing, do you need to ride high psi for tubeless to work because i always thought that tubeless would be better for low psi as there wouldn’t be pinch flats and also most tubeless mountain bikes ride low psi. Sorry for all the questions but if i were to get these tires, i wouldn’t want to have to get new rims and change the air pressure in my tires to a pressure i don’t like, not to mention them getting flat all the time (which I hope is not the case but i am suspicious of that due to your tire getting flat after one session).
@MikeFede
@MikeFede 4 года назад
Hey!! Thanks for the questions. With this tire you just need a rim that is tubeless compatible for the proper seal. You can do a rig job and make any tire tubeless but it’s really sketchy. This can be run in low or high psi. This specific tire goes to 85 psi and I ran about 80. I got the flat due to not getting the actual rim seal tape that’s like plastic and would have stopped my spoke from poking through when I hit it. That’s how the flat came about. I will be revisiting this video again soon and doing weight comparisons of different tubes with the pros and cons of all. Some people like just a regular tube and go and some like to get into the real specs of things. I appreciate your questions 🤙🏽

Tubeless for BMX is only less stupid than on a road bike. Tubeless ready rims are heavier. Tubeless ready tires are heavier. His shop told him twice as much as necessary and this common because we don't want folks coming back. This needs to be renewed at least every three months. You aren't going to do it yourself and a shop makes more money if they just add more sealant. No one is going to clean them out because you would not pay what it is worth. You are not improving rotational weight.
@MikeFede
@MikeFede 4 года назад
These tubeless ready rims are actually the lightest rims on the market. These tires weight about 20 ounces each. The shop gave me 3 ounces per wheel which is necessary. I have cleaned out the sealant myself on the rear wheel and put a tubolito tube back in until I receive the proper rim tape. The front is doing just fine as a tubeless setup. You are drastically improving the rotational weight when considering spinning the handle bar or bike it self in the air. You can definitely feel the difference.
@MHH3180
@MHH3180 4 года назад
@@MikeFede they might well be the lightest BMX tire in the market, but that same tire, not tubeless ready, would weigh considerably less. Remember too that they told you it is not the same weight as the tire they intend to sell on the open market. BTW, one of those bottle is the mfg recommended amount for two wheels even for a mtb. Don't get me wrong, my shop is no different than any other. We would use twice as much too.
@MikeFede
@MikeFede 4 года назад
Mark H Hendricks yeah they said that the tires will weigh approximately 2 ounces more per tire because they are going to be changing the PSI for production. The tires I was running before that or about the same weight or a little bit lighter, and I think those were pretty much the lightest I’ve run since KHE a number of years ago. Tubeless is definitely not for everyone, just the same as the tubolito tubes. I love those tubes and a lot of other riders don’t really careabout specifics with their bikes. Over the years I’ve pretty much ridden Everything and I like to mess around with different options. I think I’m cool with trying the tubeless but not sure if that will be a regular thing for me right now.
