i was toxic before i start collecting. but i think it the fact with most resellers they not in the scene for love of retro gaming but for the love of money they make.
My question; Has being so open about reselling on amazon on the channel, ans even in front of video game vendors at conventions, not increased the amount of competition you have on Amazon? I'm from Europe and even I've noticed that the more popular reselling youtubers get, the more people are starting to resell games
thank you for buying my stuff for what I would make after fees from ebay so I could build my saturn collection! reseller and collector here. I get the negative attitude towards alot of resellers but Bro I never have understood why people hate you so much lol.. Youre stuff is super fair
@50Deep74 haha Caleb ALWAYS pays super fair.. ABOVE AND BEYOND actually. I never have to haggle or anything. some games I could get more for but on handhelds and stuff like that hes always killing it
my biggest gripe against resellers are the one who don't know anything about what they're dealing in. i answered a retro game buyers ad locally asking for classic games: nintendo, sega, atari, etc. when he showed up to peruse my collection, he low balled me on everything because he was only well versed the n64 platform. he was even more ignorant of anything sega, which is unfortunate for him because much of my sega stuff included cib saturn, dreamcast, and super rare mega dirve/genesis shmups.
I see scalping as predatory reselling, it's about buying the newly released/time sensitive stock to remove the supply and create a new price point. Reselling on the other hand is putting things out on market and letting the market pay for it in its own terms.
Scalping is generally more pre ordering things that will sell out whether you buy the product or not with the sole intention of making a profit on it. Coming across something in the wild cheap and knowing people will pay more for it is a separate thing imo.
Would love a video on the tax aspect of things! I know in my state i got a letter from the irs owing tax money from selling things throughout the year, a video on what to expect from that would be vital to a new reseller 👍
I mean, I'm not a fan of certain games getting the price jacked up, but I couldn't care less how others collect. I just enjoy collecting games I enjoyed as a child.
Thanks for the honesty, Caleb! The video game community can be very polarizing and pulling back the curtain and sharing other perspectives hopefully will lead us to a more open-minded community where people just chill out and let everyone do whatever it is they want to do with their games lol
The video game community as a whole are not toxic, however, there are some egocentric individuals that are. Most people who have a problem, specifically with Caleb, are jealous that he is succeessful, and can afford to buy large collections, profit from them, while they cannot. I would advise Caleb not to pay attention to these people, keep doing what he does, because these people do not make up the largely kind community
Absolutely love these videos, If you ever do more Questions mine is : What are the Taxes and Fee's side of Ebay/Amazon, that's really the only thing holding me back from starting to resale. It seems like an insanely fun hobby, and I watch a lot of this content. I just dont wanna get Shrekd when Tax season rolls around! Thanks for all you do!
Hey, been lurking since the beginning of the pandemic. Both of your channels have brought me a lot of joy. Appreciate the encouragement and response. And don’t worry, it was helpful! Thanks!
Hey Caleb, I haven’t ever really done any interviews about the business; however, I have a Pokémon card resale business and have done over a million in sales over the past few years. If you need/want someone for that interview series I’d love to help out. While our business are different (video games vs cards) the processes and theories are all the same. Love the channels.
I want to resell enough to afford to buy a storage unit business that has a decent front lobby as well as a separate living space and then just chill rent storage units and sell collectibles and vintage/used items in the front but I'm far away from that.
do you think reselling is exceptionally viable and robust in the United States specifically, given the the massive, relatively wealthy and homogenous population you have cheap access to shipping-wise? I live in australia and cons, retro game stores, and finding other hobbyists is just so rare that building to a scale that you describe is just unthinkable. not to mention that PAL stuff is generally cheaper and has less 'hidden gems' - and not to mention that the third to fifth console generations were far less culturally important. the wii was kind of the first big thing, then maybe the PS4.
Lots of good discussion in this video. It's tough when you see over priced systems bundles because people think they are worth lots. Sometimes I will ask if they will just sell a game individually. I think also Scalping is worse because usually its for items like tickets that happen on certain dates and once its passed the date those are useless. You can probably find a newer console even limited editions in the future as they won't expire. Will they be a higher price then MSRP, likely.
I believe the market determines value. The only things I believe would constitute moral consideration is on life essential goods. Like toilet paper resellers in a crisis or food resellers. Even reselling tickets at a much higher price is for an entertainment event. No one will die because they don't see Taylor. I hope :)
Scalping is buying something that released or went on preorder in multiple quantities and resold for double if not 4 times the value. For example those that bought a ps5 from a retailer for the sole purpose of reselling over 1000.
Hi, Celeb I really appreciate you taking the time to teach us the struggles that go into reselling. Side note where to do you get your shipping supplies?
Hot Topic question (Limited Run Games customer service/monopoly related question) Hi Caleb, love your content (having my fingers crossed for a PS2 grail hunting type video in the future 🤞🤞) Just wanted your opinion on a bad Limited Run Games experience I had & wanted to know your thoughts. Back in the summer of 2022 I ordered the Radical Edition of TMNT Shredders Revenge (the fancy collectors edition dipped in gold chocolate) as a present for my wife. I know LRG shipping takes forever as I have ordered from them many times before but fast forward a year plus later with my purchase of shredders revenge finally arriving…. 3 days later they announce 📢 The 1 Year Anniversary Edition with All The DLC on the Cartridge/Disc is now available to purchase. …. I understand other companies had the game available, and you could get a regular version physically or online and already get the DLC for download without waiting a year plus but this was a gift, and I felt like for all of the patient folks who waited a year plus for the Radical Edition got screwed over because they released a newer version with all the DLC content included leaving the collectors edition owners a vanilla version of the game. This experience honestly made me never want to purchase from them again and in the future if something comes up that I want I would rather pay the after market price than give LRG my money, am I too salty in this situation or justified? Also, with larger corporations like best buy and walmart pulling out of selling physical media do you think it will help or hinder your business? I’m personally worried as a video game collector that Limited Run Games will soon have a monopoly on the physical video games market.
It was great seeing you at Really Rad Weekend and the panel was awesome! I work full time but have been reselling part time since I first found your channel and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences. I've made some great friends and the video games community is mostly very positive. We just tune out the Hater Hanks and keep stacking!
There are 2 Types of people in the video game community. 1.People who care way to much about how other people enjoy games 2.people that understand everyone enjoys game’s differently ,and you shouldn’t try to gate-keep the hobby based on your arbitrary requirements.
Honestly man just do you and ignore the bad vibes. You and chase are big reasons I was able to find something that changed my life for the better. Ive been struggling with a disability that has been stopping me from working as well as I use to. I was a chef for 5 years and with having bad knees I wasnt able to handle the 10 hour shifts i did daily which put me into a deep depression, i dragged my feet every morning knowing the pain i was gonna be in every day. But after watching you and chase for a long time I took a chance and starting reselling full time. Yes it can be stressful but ive never been happier. For someone like me who cant afford surgery this job is life changing and can also be a lot of fun as well. I watch both of you daily while I work. So thank you for what ya do brother.
Problem with most haters on resellers is they don't understand the cost of selling online plus even after cost you have to pay yourself for your time or your not making any money. Makes no sense to pay 80% of value when any selling platform is going to take their 15-20%. Selling 1k games at $1 profit each is only $1k which won't cover most rents now a days.
Personally I know how bad of a business model scalping is, because you are basically betting on the seller or manufacturer of a product to have less supply than there is demand, and for the demand to be strong enough that people will buy above MSRP. As soon as that no longer works you start bleeding a lot of money.
In the midst of all the hate, just want you to know I love your channels, content, hustle, and positive spirit. So glad you’re able to see through the garbage
Is ant bully among the majority of GameCube games you kept? I'm legit thinking of selling off most of the games I have no interest in anymore, and using the money from them on a major game I do want to get and play.
its funny that people get so mad about resellers even though gameexchange, gamestop, and TF games all do the same thing as resellers. you go in and get about 23 bucks for your 20 games and then the game stores sell those same games for $10-$20 a piece. its silly to get made a resellers. CALEB my good sir. KEEP DOING YOU!!!!!
The positivity (and goofing around) is what I’ve been watching your videos for consistently over the past few years. I’m not a gamer or a reseller. I just really enjoy the light-hearted nature of your videos.
this encourages me! I always say I want my channel to appeal to all sorts of people even non gamers and collectors and all that! So IM glad I saw this message!
NEWS FLASH!!! Man who volunteers his time and effort to put his face on the internet, complains when people are mean to him… I mean have you ever been on the internet?
The big difference between reselling and scalping is when you're creating artificial demand by buying up all of the supply, which is what scalping is. Resellers buying video games at a garage sale and then proceeding to flip onto eBay is selling INTO the demand that already exists. Wii Sports is gonna be a $20-$25 game tomorrow whether or not the average reseller puts their game up. However, all of the people who bought out Walmart and Target for the PS5s to then resell didn't add any value to the market. They simply took them out of supply and said "Hey, if you want it, I'm the only one who has it" and made a profit from that. Same thing that happens with sneakers. It's lame and doesn't help anyone, it's just you coming in and making it more expensive for someone to buy something that was already likely to be bought. I don't like scalping and they're not doing anything to help anyone. At least you can make an argument that general resellers help people across the country have an easy way to access items that they may not have access to in their local market. Having eBay and Amazon resellers are very crucial to the consumerism economy, whether these pure collectors cry about it or not.
I like you and your videos as another man of God the only thing I dislike is the price is being driven up buy resellers because of scarcity because of reselling all that crap
Why not invest in a small trash can for the little stripies from those plastic protectors? I'm just playing by the way, just wanted to throw a funny question in there for ya.🤣
Yes, the worst ppl I have ever met were game collectors. RU-vidrs like MJR scam his moron fan base to fund his basement remodel lol. The Completionist, AVGN etc actually made collecting a chore and not fun at all. Inflated prices and all.
I collect games and don't resell and the way collectors react to resellers and the changing market is just embarrassing. There is a finite number of these games and higher demand for them than ever before, of course prices are going to go up and finding $1 Nintendo games at yard sales is going to become more difficult. People just want to find someone to blame for their hobby changing so they target resellers. r/gamecollecting is pretty much a cesspool of negativity and I had to stop going on there
I love you man but did you seriously leave out the biggest difference between scalping and normal resell Volume No one really cares if you're selling 1 or 2 items At a Profit It's when you go into your local Walmart and buy every single pack of pokemon So the kids can't get him or other Collectors can't get them I try not to be greedy when it comes to sourcing Try my best not to leave the shelf dry Especially something like that
The Gamecube Gambit is my favourite YT-series all time all categories (and I watched alot) I watch it almost every night before I go to sleep. Its makes me feel peaceful in some kind a way. Its a feelgood series. I dont care how many you sold or kept. Its not about that… I’m a collector. I can buy a bunch of games, but dont know how I will feel about them when there in my shelfs. The ones I dont like I sell 🤷♂️ And In all the years I changed my mind so many times of what I want to collect. Keep it up Caleb! And I hope for more videos on the main channel…
My question is if you have ever reached out to Chipotle or if they’ve ever reached out to you for a sponsorship? Would you be open to other restaurant chains and if so, which ones?
Imo, reselling has ruined the hobby for many, can't argue against that. However! That's not to say reselling as a whole is the issue. It's those that take it too far with hostility and only caring about their profit. Which from what iv seen and heard is what has increased since covid. But you are not one of those types of sellers. So honestly, it's a case of others ruining the reputation of yourself.
Hey brother man you are awesome, I actually do have a comment about " heel" youtubers like "HS" (who doesn't even deserve his name to be mentioned and will get views based on 2 initials" who openly bash resellers like yourself, Chase, and anyone else, who runs a business and think your scam jamming people when in reality you are making money doing FBA like anyone else who is doing it. You have a business model that works for you and for Amazon so is it because your "robbing the system"? I don't think so, its jealously HS has 3k subs and you have 10 times as many more subs on this channel alone. Your channel is awesome and entertaining continue to be amazing on what you do and hopes to millions of dollars in the future and I heard Spanky made a sale.
Spanky needs to work on the audio lol I was watching the video on my headphones and sounded muffled at times and no it’s not my headphones they sounded fine on any other video I played
I agree with collectors sometimes being elitiest and overall worse than the re sellers. I re sell/collect pokemon comic books and video games so I have seen it all lol. I especially find with comics and pokemon their is a stigma if you dont collect the typical items or the hot ones and I have even seen people go as far to say someone is not a "real" collector because they collect a more obscure items rather than the more well known or hyped stuff. This is especially true with video games however i dont know why gamers can be super elitiest. I am trying to collect every call of duty game and other surrounding stuff as its my favorite franchise (minus newer games) and every time I mention this to even other dealers they often treat me as less of a collector as its a "basic" video game and its not typical for people to collect call of duty of all things.
Bro and his (zen) definitely doesn’t like his (neg) Feedback, normal of course , but I just find it funny , how he makes a point to address and why they are wrong 😂😂😂.
Hey Caleb! Unfortunately the comments section has universally become the front porch of haters worldwide. But I stumbled across your content the other day and have been hooked ever since! It's kinda sad how many of our brothers have fallen out [or were shoved out] of economic waters, therefore dehydrated of financial dignity. Plus, there's a lot of lazy losers. 70/30 split. Stay humble, stay hungry, we'll see you in the winner's circle chief
I'm a video game collector and I like you and your content. The problem that game collectors have is seeing the value you add, all we see is you making a profit and turning someone else's good deal into the going rate. Myabe if you ran a dedicated store and framed it as you are doing a service in making games more accessible. I'm not sure how I feel about the busniess portion of your channel but I do enjoy the collecting.
@@Bowaflex I think collectors see him as a scalper, which isn't fair. The truth is he can do whatever he can to make money and everyone and come to their own conclusion on the value he brings.
If anything, Caleb's channel shows you exactly how to get these good deals yourself. He travels around a lot, and negotiating with stores and showing you which stores he goes to makes it so much easier. When he came to SoCal, he hit a bunch of stores and got some really good deals. I didn't even know certain stores existed (it's a chain store in Japan) and now I go there frequently and get really cheap video games, DVDs and manga.
Caleb not to bring up more drama or be a hater Hank, because I really do respect you and love your content. But if you only god rid of the games that you knew you’d never play, then why did you get them in the first place? I feel like that’s why people are upset more than anything, it seems like a waste of time for you and a waste of time for your audience watching those videos. Again this isn’t a hateful comment ultimately it’s your channel and your money do with it what you please, but i just genuinely don’t understand what’s worth it about doing that rather then telling your community “hey this game may be popular or rare but I’m not gonna play it so I don’t think it’s worth buying for the GameCube/switch collection” I’d love to hear your thoughts
