It's our second time in Canada. On our first visit, we didn't expand our culinary horizons much. Sure, we enjoyed Lee's Donuts at Granville Island, Montreal-style bagels at Rosemary Rocksalt, and a variety of eats and treats from local restaurants, but we didn't go all-in on exploring the foods Canada is known for. This time, we delved deeper. We tried poutine, butter tarts, Nanaimo bars, and more. What'd we think?

You cannot buy butter tarts you have to have homemade butter tarts. Store-bought butter tarts are OK but mama makes the best

The best poutine is the basic chips gravy and curds, it does not need anything else.

Smarties are specifically made in a nut/peanut free facility and are safe for children to share.

The Eat-More bars are like a lifestyle, laid-back, savoured in the moment, and chewed slowly. If you are chewing at a regular pace for the sake of chewing, you won't notice the textures, the nuts, the caramelly notes. Imagine a cowboy eating it and just keeping it simple. I am a Vancouverite and grew up eating these, it is indeed a nice snack once every few moons. After school, going to the movies, and sometimes just as a pit stop at the gas station.

Just so you know, you guys come off as ultra Canadian. Mannerisms, interactions, even your accent. Gun to my head I'd have guessed your Canadian.

It's not about the chips and candy bars. You are both charming , personable and entertaining. Happy travels! I would like to go there for authentic poutine.

When you eat your Smarties, you eat the red ones last (from an old ad - the tune is in my head now!). Poutine with bacon is nice; yes, adding insult to injury, but for testing your heart...... Nanaimo bars come in mint flavour as well. <sigh> Such goodies!

Butter tarts are definitely an Ontario thing. “Real” butter tarts have a light, buttery crust, and have a delicious gooey filling. I’m not a fan of raisins but do enjoy pecan. My mother freezes hers and I can never wait for them to defrost, so they are a delightful not ice cream ice cream treat when I visit her. Midland Ontario has an annual Butter Tart festival that is a diabetic nightmare. So good… (lots of other foods there as well)

Thanks fort your video....but you limited yourselves to the West coast (Vancouver). You gotta come here to Montreal, where you can sample THE WORLD"S BEST smoked meat sandwich at Schwartz's Deli (New York gave up a long time ago...), try AUTHENTIC Montreal bagels (not "Montreal-style") from St-Viateur Bagel (I recommend the cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel sandwich) and of course, an authentic old country, home cooked Italian meal which I will happily provide.

I'm so glad you guys went to a quebec place for poutine, so often i see people "trying poutine for the first time" and its not poutine, if its a french name you know you got the real deal :)

Canadian palates on average go more for the vinegar base chip flavour or the sweet of American palates. Thou savory, savory and sweet complement.
