With the mineral/salt block, it's better just on the ground than in that container because when it rains, the container it's in is going to hold water and dissolve it. I just kept mine on the ground out in the open and they did fine. Just make sure they always have one available. Glad you got the mineral instead of just the salt. :)

I anxiously await blogs from you guys these days! I’m so excited with all you have going on at the new homestead! Love it! Make a stand with a cover to mount the salt block. It won’t last long how your doing it…talk to Ben Holler he just recently mounted his on his cow shelter/stanchion. Blessings💖🙏

Do yourself a favor and buy some Truefuel for your chain saw. With a small 2 stroke engine you will have no carburetor repairs and your fuel lines will not get eaten up from the ethanol in gasoline. I was in landscape maintenance for 43 years and once I started using Truefuel my repairs on small engines almost went away. Love watching. Good luck with the new property! Bob

Salt block should be under cover. That pan you put it in should have drainage too because, yes, the rain can dissolve the block (not just salt but many minerals are water soluble).

Never a dull moment on the homestead. That is beautiful wood that was cut down. It is wonderful to see the progress you have already made making this land your home. 3 years from now you won't recognize the way it was. It will be loved again.

What I love best about your videos is you do a great job editing and packing it all into a video usually under 15 minutes… Great job and appreciate the hard work you, Lorraine and your daughter put in to give us great content .... interesting, knowledgeable and entertaining. Great job and keep up the good work 👨‍🌾🧑‍🌾🐄🐖🐓

The feed store should have a salt block holder, which keeps the salt out of the dirt but has drainage slots to let the rain drain off. There are also feeders that rotate with the wind, have a 'roof' to keep loose mineral salt dry - look online for mineral feeders.

The worst areas of your horse pasture are probably suffering from compaction even more than fertilization. A deeply spaded broad fork - on a damp day - with out actually turning the soil will really help. I second the motions for covering that salt block to protect it from rain.

Its so nice to see good things happening to good people. you did everything right, made good decisions and it paid off! my husband and I lived frugally, didn't overspend and were able to pay off our home. two years later we bought our retirement home. which will soon be paid for as well, we need to sell the first house first. its so nice to face our future without a lot of debt, our cars are well maintained and paid for too. not many people our age can say the same thing. (67 & 59) its so worth it! you guys aren't out there having a bunch more kids etc. congratulations!

Good move, Jason. I was glad to see those trees by the shed go. Dewalt was never the top of the line. The previous owner should have taken them down long ago but then what do horse people know. I would have put the salt block in a wooden box, not plastic. But no, you do not need to cover your salt block. As that other guy says, 1% improvement every day.
