As average Joe's are we big enough to compete on the PGA Tour? This is how big the best players in game are and how I stack up against them. Does size contribute to playing good golf? Let's find out.

August 18, 2024 is marked in my calendar. Ben Utah > 200lbs (14.28 stones). You can do it!!! The extra stones will definitely give you reserves for stamina and endurance on those long Tour weeks.

Gaining weight is hard, you not only need to be in a calorie surplus but you have to make sure you get enough protein and lift enough weights to make sure that weight turns to muscle and not visceral fat. I would say (as someone who is going through a weight loss transition) that getting in at least 200 grams of protein a day and lifting 4 days a week would be a good idea. Taking a creative supplement might also be a good idea. Most importantly, you need to find your maintenance calories you burn, for someone like you I would guess around 3000 (maybe more) and eat 500-700 more than your maintenance. You probably already knew this but if not I hope this helps! You got this man!

Thanks for the tips! I’ve heard some stuff about protein intake but I always struggle to get that many grams. How do I find out my maintenance calories?

@@benutahgolf there’s a couple ways you can do it, a rough estimate is to multiply your body weight by 15 and that’s around your maintenance, the way I did it was I have a “inbody” machine at my gym which tracks a bunch of data like basal metabolic rate (how many calories you burn at rest) etc. I try to be in a calorie deficit so I usually eat around my Ben calories within 200-300 calories as my activity would make me burn more calories naturally. I would basically do the opposite if I were you and I wanted to gain weight. So eating around 3000-3500 calories to start is a good place. Again making sure you’re getting enough protein in to support muscle building. I’ll leave a separate comment about how to get more protein in.

@@benutahgolf a good way to up your protein intake is to find a good protein powder that you enjoy. I would recommend Ryse protein (it’s my favorite). I like the skippy peanut butter flavor and the blueberry muffin flavor. Other ways to up the protein intake are pre made protein shakes (fairlife makes a great one that tastes like chocolate milk). If you’re looking for more savory applications, any form of chicken, beef, eggs (egg whites have more protein than whole eggs), reduced fat dairy, beans etc. If you also struggle to eat a lot of calories, I would cook all your food in a little more oil, incorporate some more peanut butter (or any nut butter) into your diet. These foods are calorie dense but don’t fill you up that much. Hope this info helps man! I’m just a guy going through a body change too, I’m not a doctor. If you have any worries about anything I would definitely consult your doctor. Best of luck! Excited to see your progress!
