I'd like you to do a video on how poor people can get the most nutrition dense food on the cheap. This would help starving students, low-income seniors and the disabled, the unemployed, etc. I mean assuming they can only afford a few foods, which foods should they get that would give them the biggest bang for their bucks?

Funny how people are so concerned about getting enough protein but don't give one thought to antioxidants. Athletes assume they need to chug protein after a workout (turns out carbs post workout are more important) while antioxidants consumption has been shown to have a huge impact on recovery from exercise and no one ever talks about it.

Sorry about the time in answering... I went completely vegan, added about 10% raw to my diet, stopped any processed food, no alcohol and no oil. Pretty much followed what Mic said. My doctor was unhappy when I stopped taking carbimazole and prednisone but that stuff decimates gut health, plus the weight gain from prednisone was sucking my will to live. Now, I eat healthy, exercise regularly and avoid all junk. I also watch Pick Up Limes because she is a qualified dietician and Gojiman because he talks a lot about improving gut health. This worked for me, even if you continue with your meds, change your diet. It will help.

1.) You're hilarious 🤣 2.) Bulk buying herbs for tea is legit amazing. Amazon and iHerb both sell Frontier Organic dried herbs, usually in 16 ounce bags, which keep indefinitely in glass jars or plastic containers. Much more convenient, cheaper, and more eco-friendly than buying individual tea bags! Aaaannnd, if you have a little dirt, many herbs are literally weeds and grow very quickly. 3.) I'm inspired to go brew some hibiscus & lemon balm. Thanks for another great video, Mic!

Great topic! Not enough is being said about even moderate alcohol consumption and the damage it causes. It's like the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about because it's so acceptable and ingrained in our culture but it is not a health food. Your example shown was of a person that had partied heavily, both smoking and drinking. Which gives most people the feeling that you're not talking about them and can be easily dismissed. What about the person that has a glass of wine or a beer or two each night? Death by moderation?

How to ensure a high(er) intake of antioxidants throughout the day starting first thing in the morning? Well, my favourite breakfast is a Mango + Coffee! I have been known for munching on two Kohlrabi + Coffee, as well, and I do not oppose bunch of sweet juicy carrots in that breakfast antioxidant rotation either. How can that be wrong? Right!? Massaged Kale salad for lunch (google the recipe, it's divine and so simple! Just three ingredients and done in 5 minutes!), green or red Thai Curry on rice for dinner, and in between the main courses lots of fresh fruits, nuts and veggies for snacking. I just made a big batch of soup last night in a stock pot. I put in navy beans, edamame, broccoli slaw, sliced grape tomatoes, Onion, carrots, celery, curry powder (a lot), homemade veggie stock (made from veggie cuttings). I don't usually think about what is in most of my food when I fix it. I figure I'm getting whatever I need and my labs are perfect. For breakfast I put together old-fashion oats, chopped walnuts, Hemp seeds, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, fresh golden figs, kale, and douse it with almond milk, and warm it up it the microwave. Sometimes I may add some cinnamon and nutmeg. All very yummy! When I remember to, I also add some of my homemade "ground meat" which is made up of riced cauliflower, riced mushrooms, and ground walnuts, which has been mixed together, spread onto parchment paper in a baking pan, baked at 350 for 20 minutes, stirred and baked for another 20 minutes.

Hi Mic, at around 8:48 you mention glaucoma as a common disease in the eye where the nerve deteriorates... to be more accurate glaucoma is a condition due to aqueous humor flow in the eye that does not flow properly which causes pressure that can then cause nerve damage. It is primarily a flow/pressure issue that secondarily affects the optic nerve. Otherwise love your information.

I eat a pile of steamed kale alongside oatmeal with ground flax, blueberries, and cinnamon in the morning. Plus a sheet of nori. A typical eating pattern excludes greens from breakfast, but a typical eating pattern also includes meat with every meal. Upbringing and habit. My meals don’t always go as planned though - I ate a bag of Cracker Jacks for lunch yesterday.

Hello Mic. Great video as ever. Would you consider researching the phytoestrogenic properties of plant foods? Some women of a certain age ( okay, me ) want to ingest more oestrogen to counter the distressing symptoms of the menopause. Thanks for reading and keep up the good work.

12:37 You can add a little bit of pumpkin to your oatmeal. Season with the pumpkin pie spices and maybe some date sugar, and you are good to go. I also put raisins in my pumpkin oatmeal too. You can probably also add in some nuts too. Also another good food with a diverse antioxidant profile are goji berries. Here's a paper detailing what they have: www.hindawi.com/journals/omcl/2019/2437397/

I watched a video years back about antioxidants and it said that most dietary antioxidants can only react a few times but our antioxidant enzyme system produces catalysts that can prevent oxidative damage a million times over. And they require trace minerals to function properly, so it's very important to get those in.

Oxidative stress is required for cell signalling. Too many anti oxidants, can interfere with apoptosis. I think the compounds in the plants are not what they seem, some are pro oxidative in some tissues, but this might be why it is helpful. Green tea for example, has both anti and pro oxidative qualities. Same with curcumin. It is possible that fruits and veggies are good for us in ways we do not fully understand.

Nice, thanks. Dr. Esselstyn's six handfuls of steamed greens spread through the day came to mind and I'm glad you mentioned them. Amla yes it's amazingly astringent and sharp to eat. However amla pickle, for those who like pickles, is quite pleasant to eat. It's a traditional Indian way to consume amla but of course pickles are loaded with salt, often oil; there is also a sweet preserve of grated amla called amla murabba. But sugary. However more practical ways, free of sugar, salt and oil are to mix a dash, or as much as one can tolerate, of amla powder into a soupy or stewy dish, then it sort of merges and disappears. Too much gives me painful gums but a small pinch I don't notice. A chopped fresh amla fruit (available in certain seasons) added to my food and mixed up is all right too. I should think green tea, more so with a dash of lemon juice, would be antioxidant rich, EGC.. epigallocatechin or similar name is a star antioxidant I thought, I must check, and the numbers, but i was surprised it wasn't mentioned. Black tea and black coffee too? Anyhow, thank you once again for a good video. Best wishes.
