If I have 4 years of engineering experience in a state and I move over to another state for a new job, will the experience from my first job count in the new state?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 2 года назад
Vinayak typically, yes as long as it meets the requirements or engineering work. I would always double check with your State Board. You can also take the exam in the old state and then apply for reciprocity to get license in new state.

What about a masters? I have a bs and Ms in environmental science but want to get a PE and am going to take a second masters in environmental engineering. Would that qualify?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 2 месяца назад
@jarredking899 There's a good chance a Master's in Environmental Engineering would qualify you for the PE Exam, but there are a few details to iron out: ABET Accreditation: The key factor is whether the Master's program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). ABET accreditation ensures the program meets the minimum standards for engineering education. Check with the program you're considering to confirm their ABET accreditation status. Content of the Master's Program: While both environmental science and engineering deal with the environment, they have distinct focuses. The Master's program in Environmental Engineering should cover core engineering topics tested on the PE Exam. These typically include areas like water resources, air quality, waste management, and environmental health and safety. Here's how you can confirm if your program meets the requirements: Review the Program Curriculum: Look for courses that align with the PE Environmental exam specifications outlined by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) (ncees.org/exams/pe-exam/environmental/). Contact the Program Director: Discuss your situation and PE exam goals with the program director. They can advise you on whether the program's content aligns with the PE exam and if it fulfills the educational requirements for your state licensing board. By carefully considering these factors and contacting the relevant authorities, you can determine if your Master's in Environmental Engineering will qualify you to take the PE Exam.

Does anyone know off hand which states allows the license to be acquired based on professional experience alone?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 2 года назад
I don't believe any at this point, I believe you need to take the exam. There may be rare cases where a State might allow this if some had many many years of experience.

What about a overseas engineer , like China mainland
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 6 месяцев назад
@stanzhang4915 Overseas engineers, including those from China mainland, can be eligible to take the PE exam in the United States under certain conditions: Eligibility: Degree: You must have a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering from an accredited program. If your degree is from China mainland, you need to have it evaluated by an accreditation agency like NCEES Engineering Accreditation Services (EAS) or Engineering Accreditation Board (EAC) to ensure it meets US standards. Exam availability: Check if the FE exam is offered at a Pearson VUE test center in your country or a nearby one. Experience: Most states require 4 years of supervised engineering experience under a licensed PE. Consider if your experience working in China qualifies, and ensure it meets the specific requirements of the state where you wish to become licensed. Visa and work authorization: Holding a job in the US remotely while residing in another country often requires specific visa and work authorization. Verify if your current visa allows you to work for a US company remotely and if additional permits or licenses are needed. Steps to consider: Evaluate your degree: Contact NCEES EAS or EAC for an evaluation of your engineering degree. Research state requirements: Choose the state you want to become licensed in and thoroughly research their specific requirements for international candidates. Pay close attention to experience qualifications and any restrictions on remote work experience. Confirm visa and work authorization: Consult with immigration specialists to understand your current visa's limitations and if additional permits are needed for working remotely in the US. Explore NCEES resources: Visit the NCEES website for international professionals and the FE exam webpage for detailed information. Seek professional guidance: Consider consulting with an engineer licensure specialist familiar with international cases. They can advise you on your eligibility, navigate the specific requirements of your chosen state, and guide you through the process. Additional notes: The process can be complex and time-consuming, so start early and plan thoroughly. Meeting all the requirements might involve overcoming several hurdles, and the specific details will vary depending on your chosen state and circumstances. Remember, passing the FE and PE exams are just initial steps. Each state has further requirements for becoming a licensed PE, including work experience under a licensed PE in the US. While obtaining a PE license in the US as an overseas engineer is certainly possible, it requires careful planning, research, and potentially overcoming specific challenges. Don't hesitate to seek professional guidance to ensure you're taking the right steps and maximizing your chances of success.

What is the solution if my bachelor degree is not EAC/ABET accredited bachelor degree and is there any solution or exam that
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 3 месяца назад
@abdirahmaniaabdulahi9709 There are solutions for obtaining a PE license with a non-EAC/ABET accredited bachelor's degree, but the process will involve additional steps compared to an accredited degree. Here's what you can do: **Evaluate your degree: You'll need to get your degree evaluated by a credential evaluation service approved by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) ncees.org/. This evaluation compares your program's curriculum to the NCEES Engineering Education Standard. **Fulfill course deficiencies (if applicable): The evaluation might identify coursework missing from your program compared to the standard. If so, you'll need to take those courses at an accredited institution to bridge the gap. **Take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam: This computer-based exam is the first step for all PE candidates regardless of accreditation. You can find information about the FE exam on the NCEES website ncees.org/. **Gain work experience: You'll need to fulfill the required number of years of verified engineering experience under a licensed PE. The specific experience requirement varies by state. **Pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam: This exam focuses on your specific engineering discipline and tests your ability to apply engineering knowledge. More information about the PE exam can be found on the NCEES website ncees.org/. While there's no single exam to replace the accreditation, fulfilling the NCEES requirements demonstrates competency equivalent to an accredited degree holder. Remember, the specific requirements might vary slightly by state, so it's advisable to contact your state's licensing board for the most current information. You can find your state's licensing board contact details through the NCEES website ncees.org/.

Do I need to get the EIT certification in order to be able to get my PE. I already passed the FE but I just wonder if I can just skip this process of getting the EIT certification. Can I take the PE in one of those states that allows you to take the test early knowing that I took my FE in another state?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Год назад
It depends on the state where you are located but in many states they do require proof of the EIT certificate, however it would be best if you can check with the state where are looking to get your license.

@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Год назад
Whether you need engineering experience in the United States to take the Professional Engineering (PE) exam depends on the specific requirements of the state or jurisdiction in which you are seeking licensure. In general, most states require that a portion of the engineering experience required for licensure be obtained in the United States. This is because the PE exam and licensure are based on U.S. engineering standards, regulations, and practices. However, the amount of U.S. experience required varies by state. Some states may require all of the engineering experience to be obtained in the United States, while others may accept a portion of the experience obtained outside the U.S. as long as it is relevant to the practice of engineering in the U.S. It's important to review the specific requirements for licensure and exam eligibility in the state or jurisdiction in which you are seeking licensure to determine whether you need engineering experience in the U.S. to take the PE exam. You can typically find this information on the website of your state's engineering licensing board or by contacting them directly.

@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Год назад
Hello Jose, The General Engineering and Building contractor license is not a recognized engineering license in the US. However, if you have more than 10 years of experience as a General Engineering and Building contractor, you may be able to apply for a waiver of the four years of post-college work experience requirement for the PE exam. To apply for a waiver, you must submit the following to the state engineering board in the state where you want to take the PE exam: *A letter from your employer stating that you have been employed as a General Engineering and Building contractor for more than 10 years. *A copy of your General Engineering and Building contractor license. *A resume that highlights your engineering experience. *The state engineering board will then review your application and decide whether to grant you a waiver. I would advise you to check with the state board where you plan to apply for your PE license, as each state has different sets of rules. Good luck!

I'm in California, you need atleast 4 years of work experience post college and your EIT to take the PE. However, if you've gone to an ABET accredited college, you will only need 2 years since 2 years of college will be counted towards your 4. So you could essentially pass the FE and then sign up for the next PE since you've already been working for 4 years.
