My sister and I didn't talk for almost 5 years. We didn't have much in common and we had family drama due to her behavior. It really hurt my parents. The dust of the drama settled and I realized I was grieving the relationship I never had with my only sibling, but it didn't have to stay that way. It took me asking her to lunch that lasted several hours, and me point blank telling her I wanted her in my life to some degree. She needed the invitation to participate in a friendship, some people are just made that way and won't make the first move. The first year was sparse but today she is literally my best friend and we have the best time! We are night and day, completely different desires and needs and that's what makes it fun. There is love there, and love is important. 💜

It’s all Brook! She needs help, she needs friends, she needs a healthy habit, she is suffering. It’s not her sister. She needs to reach out to her sister and confess she needs help, but it’s all her. God give her revelation and God give her sister mercy and Grace to see that Brook needs her.

A previous gf of mine broke up our 3 yr relationship out the blue with absolutely no closure. We had a seemingly strong relationship so it shattered me. Self doubt and anxiousness was rampant with me for a year and a half. I did the same thing as him, went to gym, dated other girls, and i doubled down on restoring my classic car. It helped to distract but didnt cure me. It only stopped the day she randomly contacted me just to apologize. She stated our relationship was way too deep to end the way it did. I felt a literal weight lift off my chest that day. It did wonders because i met my now wife only 2 months later. Andrew I hope she is able to do that for you man.

I feel so bad for this girl. I always wanted to be in the good graces of my two older cousins and it was so toxic. It wasn’t until I set boundaries and excluded them from my life did I realize I was so much better without them. John is so right. You deserve friendships and great relationships. Be blessed!

I pray that Brooke will build a community around her. I’m this negative world it’s very important to connect with positive people. But Brooke sister also needs love and support as well.

My precious sister has lived with a man for 30 years who was physically abusive to her: I HATE HIM...but I LOVE MY SISTER. She put up with it, blah, blah, blah, I can give a gazillion reasons why I should have broken ties with her, except......SHE IS MY SISTER, I don't like her choices, but I ADORE HER. To this day and if I need someone to hold me in their arms....it's her I call: and she has NEVER let me down. BTW II - We don't fit into any boxes to be checked. Get over the boxes, Brooke.

I dunno. She focused on her sister’s past life a lot. She kept repeating that she checked all the boxes as if she was competing with her sister. She felt vindicated when her relationship failed. She sounds judgemental. But aren’t we all 🤷‍♀️ I think her sister is living it up and having a ball and is happy with or without her and that’s pissing her off. This lady is unhappy and maybe competing with her sister and wants to feel better than her. And hurting her sister will assist her with that.

Really felt for Andrew. Wishing him the best. Glad he is still young amd good for bim buying a house on his own. Wish they had talked more about the tic he mentioned at the outset. I have similar and hard to get info on. Took medication for awhile but side effects of memory issues at a minimum.

In a cycle of abuse with my sister and started speaking painful truths and discovered the trauma we went through caused her deeper damage, than I thought. Both our ACE scores are dangerously high.

She was disingenuous at best cause she sounding like someone watching and stumbling on what they're saying. Not wanting to come off a certain way but you could tell. Super judging and off in her own little world of feelings toward her sister. But they grown adults and she couldn't even be honest when articulating what may have been feelings and thoughts she was actually ashamed or embarrassed to even say out loud on the show. But she from Utah, superiority complex is abound.

Yeah I was so interested in Brooke's call as I have my own estrangement from. my sister for over a decade but this had to be the most inarticulate caller I ever heard. I was confused about the "checking of the boxes" Maybe she was so nervous about calling that she had several drinks or took something. I was also confused as to why she actually called. Do she really need John to tell her that she doesn't actually have to have an ongoing relationship with her sister? As he said, she's free to do as she wishes. But then it sounded like she wanted to but when John was giving her ways to do that she wasn't receptive and it turns out she really doesn't like her sister but claims to "have no one else" . Sound's like she's kinda judging but still using the sister. She has a husband and 4 kids at least. That's pretty big right there. I was surprised John didn't ask about the parents or any other siblings but yeah make some friends. Probably gave them up when she got married and so young.

It’s also possible that John’s wife never did want kids and just said she did so they could get married. He may not be neglectful at all. She could be more the problem in this than Dr John thinks and is just gaslighting the guy by making it all about her feelings instead of acknowledging her husband’s.

@donald johnson Please don't further this "they'll change their mind" verbiage towards childfree people. First, know it's weaponized and anytime a childfree persons says they don't want kids the response is exactly what you have here. "You'll change your mind". It's rude AF. But also annoying and inconsiderate to childfree ppl. Wonder if the tables were turned how people would like that.

What are some tips to build community? I find myself relating a ton to the first caller. I am extremely picky on who I want to be friends with. And I know I shouldn’t be so picky. And now that I am a mom of two babies. I feel like it’s harder to build relationships. Any advice would help.

Johns wife is prob thinking about how much women have to do and manage with kids lol. That being said if you marry someone with that expectation changing that on someone is unacceptable. I wonder if he’s just asked his wife why.

Brooke, you seem extremely judgmental and broken. I’m sorry but your sister is your sister! Your relationship with your husband can never be like a sibling, especially a sister! Please reach out and tell her, call her! There is nothing better than a sister ♥️ you need each other..
