Should be noted for people that: DDR5 kits aren't sold in 4 packs of DIMMs for a reason. You CANT use XMP profiles (yet) on most boards because the bandwidth is too great and it will cause errors, crashes and instability. Hopefully this helps someone, i did weeks of reformats and troubleshooting only to find this out. I kept the 4 DIMMs though (I'm a video editor and need the capacity, not necessarily the speed).

Just remember that using XMP or DOCP counts as overclocking and it voids any applicable AMD or Intel warranties. But also remember that its still okay to use XMP or DOCP to get more performance and both companies often have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy about memory overclocking.

Note that starting Zen4(X670,B650,A620), AMD's DOCP is now EXPO.

Another tip, remember that anything over 6000mhz with AM5 will not have the infinity fabric properly synchronized on a scale of 1:1 Basically anything over 6000mhz can have worse performance even with better timings

Also don't forget to put your RAM in the correct dimm slots.

Protip: This voids your CPU warranty. So if for some strange reason you have to RMA a CPU and they ask you about your ram, you say "IDK what XMP is".

Did this when I built my PC back in 2021, rocking a Ryzen 5 4650G and two 8 GB 3200 MHz sticks... It used to crash at least once a month. I setted it back to 2666 and it never crashed again

I like to blow tech people's minds by calmly holding down the BIOS or boot menu key instead of spamming it. EDIT: Yes, this does work on all [modern] computers. People spam the key because different systems/keyboards initialize differently. Some don't register a key held down prior to POST initializing the kb as a key press. You have to time your calm key press to be right after the kb is brought up, and then the kb's repeat rate does the spamming for you.

Check to make sure your mobo supports the speeds your RAM advertises. If your PC won't boot into Windows, there's a good chance that's your problem.

So many people are unnecessarily terrified of going into the BIOS, I've resorted to uttering threats to get people to enable XMP/DOCP

my pc has problems activating X.M.P, I deactivate it and my pc works fine. No black screen on certain occasions.

I literally just installed new ram, changed the bios settings and now my computer will no longer boot. Wheeee!

Don't forget to use the Dual Channel Markers to make sure that you're running in Dual Channel mode!

On AMD motherboards it's either "D.O.C.P." or "A-XMP". Also some RAM kits have mor than 1 XMP profile. Just select the profile that matches the speed (Mhz) and timings (CL) printed on the RAM label or on the back of the packaging.

You don't need to spam the button - you can just press and hold it. (Should work for most BIOS anyway)

make sure ur motherboard can handle your ram's highest speeds though!!!! if it boot loops and resets, don't try putting the speed up max again, try lower increments until your pc boots and runs as usual.

Let's fix that by actually overclocking it and manually tightening your timings. XMP is usually not very well optimized.

Note: Not all bioses support this option. Some do and some don't. it's because many of these motherboard manufactors disable this setting from appearing on your system by default

Xmp isn't always this simple. Xmp is often very unstable depending on the motherboard and how you have your ram configured in the dimm slots.

I've only ever had problems with XMP Every single time I've enabled it, it either crashed on boot, or as soon as I fire a game

If you have the asrock h110m motherboard you can set the ram settings to Sport or Sport+ to improve the timings. It's not XMP, because H110 chipset didn't support xmp profiles, but still very good improvement on speed. And altough H110 didn't support XMP officially, asrock found a way to utilize xmp on the early bios versions. It was later removed for some reason (maybe Intel didn't liked it, or it was unstable. who knows)

I actually was a dumbass when I built my system, I got new a new ryzen 7700x cpu when they were released so I bought really balls to the wall ram and sadly because I was impatient ended up with a moba that can’t run my ram at its high speed 😂

Did that to my PC with 2 sticks of ram, awesome! From 2666 to 3200 :D Did it with 2 additional sticks making it 4x8 GB and the system is unstable (freezes/halts) unless I got back to stock speeds. Sadge.

I've never owned a computer where xmp profiles work, ever. Enabling them either blue screens after boot or the pc never boots, and after several boot attempts brings me back to the bios. I bought the ram recommended and approved from my mobo list, nothing. Manually tweaking timings and voltages, nothing. Using bios automatic settings, nothing. Xmp is a lie and a scam.

I did this on my ram and it keeps on telling me that I have failed my overclock whenever I try to start my computer then it falls into a Boot Loop, but eventually it'll start and I guess the overclock takes.

When I did this in 2010 my system wouldn't hold it after awhile. I would turn it on one day and it would go back to default with no idea why.

thank you so much my cpu was getting to 95 - 100% usage but with this it's gone down to 20% a lot better.

I have never been able to use these profiles in any system.

What if an XMP profile is not visible from the bios menu ? Does it mean that motherboard doesnt support this function ?

Thanks for telling me. But now I'm mad, because my ram is stuck at 2133MHz, and acer won't let me change it in bios, but apparently on different acer products there's a different way to access an advanced bios, but guess what? They don't tell you. Also after trying to contact support they don't let you select uk as a region and so are telling me that my PC doesn't exist. All this just to increase my ram speed to what it's supposed to be. :( I will forever use my PC with this devastating knowledge in the back of my head. Edit: Turns out the reason for all my problems is just acer. They have support for advanced bios on some of their laptops, however, for my desktop they don't have support for this, and as I've seen; by the lack of new videos on it and by the lack of bios updates from acer, it looks as if myself and many other Acer users are stuck with very slow ram speeds, until buying a new computer or such. Edit 2: I'm using an Acer n50 640 (previously with 8gb of Samsung DDR4 3200mbps ram, now running with 2*8gb Corsair DDR4 3600MHz ram but as stated before it only runs at 2133MHz) P.S. If anyone has a work around or even a way to replace my bios for a superior companies' please do tell me.

If xmp crashes apps/games you might need to manually increase the voltage sent to the ram to get it to work properly.

Weird I know this is meant to be a performance tweak. I bought 32gb 3600mhz vengeance and it seems to be when enable xmp it doesn't work, I have to change the frequency manually and still the highest I can go to that's stable is 3200mhz. Games crash after about an hour on 3600mhz. Would you suggest this is a faulty ram stick?

Ryzen CPUs have maximum limits. When I filled all 4 ram slots, DOCP (and running ram higher than the processor can handle) was stuck in a boot loop.

Made the difference between High and medium settings on 1440p with demanding games for me. Always run XMP and dual channel.
