It shouldn't be about coming to Mexico, or anywhere, because you are trying to get away from something. It should be you moving to Mexico because you want to be part of the Mexican culture. You want to embrace the Mexican life. Because, you've been there, you loved it and you want to be part of it all the time.

Sometimes you don't even know how amazing a place is until you visit it. For me I had no idea the Freedom I yearned for my whole life was right across the border. It was love at first sight. Best move I've ever made! Viva Mexico! Thanks for sharing!

Most retirees who are lucky enough to move to Mexico or another country will have no choice but to do so. Or be homeless in the USA.

That's right. What sucks is that there are some who move out here reluctantly and then bring their bad attitudes with them. Instead of being grateful they tend to be bitter about the whole situation. Thanks again for sharing!

@@JoseArteagaTravels I don't blame them for having bad attitudes. Because they came from far left liberal commie areas with high taxes, less freedoms & lots of crime to go with it. You can't prosper if your freedoms are being restricted. This is what happens in the big cities of America when mindless people keep voting in Democrats forever. Apathy & ignorance is the problem in my country.

Hola Jose y Christian y Gizmo! What I have heard that makes no sense to me is "Because of the exchange rate it's gotten too expensive for me to live in Mexico on just my SS of $1500!!" Then I said "What do you mean! $1500 is plenty to live on here!" Then you come to find out they foolishly planned their whole spending budget around that total monthly SS check of $1500us. "Well, I figured I would spend a maximum of $500 on groceries and other things. Then I found a big three bedroom three bath with a big yard, gardens and big patio really close to the beach to rent for only the $1000us that I had left and now I can't afford it!" I had to explain about how seeing as she was single, she didn't need a big house four blocks to the beach and she should have optioned for that really nice smaller house a mile from the beach for $600us and that even with the exchange rate going up to where it's hovering at 17.00 now, she would still have $207 dollars leftover. She had to break her lease losing money that she didn't have and is now living back with her mom in the US until she can move back with a more thoughtfully planned budget.

Common Sense, ain't so common! 😅 BTW When I moved here about 6 years ago the exchange rate was also around 17 to 1 Thanks for sharing!

Even young adults in their early 20s 30s are still unable to pay rent. Minimum wage is not enough to keep up. Mexico on the other hand wages are lower than the US but you can live a lot better in Mexico simply because you pay less bills

I have dual citizenship. Grew up in the state of Chihuahua until my teens. I miss Mexico and want to return but want to live central to Northern Mexico. I am somewhat fearful as many dangers do exist in these areas these days. It was very different when I was growing up in Mexico.

Most places are not as dangerous as you think. I totally agree there are certain areas to stay away from but other than that, theres plenty of Mexico in those regions which are safe and sound. Good luck with your search!

Catching the replay José and as usual you’re keeping it real. The delusions of some folks who are moving to Mexico are wild.😬 As a kid our parents were constantly carting us kids off to different countries so now, I have very few illusions about living in another country. For me it’s a well thought out choice to move to Merida (currently scouting) because primarily I love the culture, food and the people. Cost of living and weather are also factors but definitely not the ones.😊

Thank you for the kind words! For a list of your rights in Mexico I would suggest you look at the Mexican Constitution here is a link www.diputados.gob.mx/LeyesBiblio/pdf/CPEUM.pdf That is the Law of the Land and that is what is actually enforced not so much the "laws". That's how it used to be in the USA before they changed all that and basically making most of the US Constitution null and void. But in Mexico the Constitution still stands strong and therefore that is what is the actual law of the land and your rights.

I really enjoyed hearing part of your story. I was looking for a video where you tell your story but you have a lot of videos. I would like to retire there within a year or so with not a lot of $$ and Merida sounds very safe. Im single female and have visited Mexico many times so I somewhat know what to expect. Anyhow, i just wanted to hear your story...its very interesting. I will live in poverty if I stay in the US because my social security wont afford me to live too comfortably in US. And I love mexico. What video do you tell your story more in full? Thank you Jose, I really enjoy your content.

I honestly have no idea what those places would be since I have not traveled there. I can't make a video on places I have not seen for myself. Perhaps you should check out other youtubers living in other parts of Mexico for more information on that subject. From my experiences everywhere I have visited has been safe compared to what I am used to dealing with in the USA

People are just so misinformed. The cartels aren't out roaming around looking to rob, shoot or kill the average residents or tourists. Don't you think if they were doing this it would all over the daily news? You wouldn't hear the end of it from Faux news. The cartels tend to keep things between themselves in well known areas that are easy to stay away from. It's pretty rare that anything bad happens to someone just going about their day. If you aren't in a cartel or looking to join one or are actively trying to hone in on their business interests and doing regular business with them you really have nothing to worry about. They are in mostly well known areas you wouldn't want to live in anyway. Stay away from Matamoros, Culiacan, Uruapan, Colima, Zacatecas and Tamaulipas to name a few of the more well known areas to just stay away from. I live in Ensenada, Baja a little less than one hundred miles from where the Tijuana cartel runs most of it's business and I've never heard of anything heavy going down here. I feel safer here than I did in my old home town of LA. You have to look at it this way, it's not as randomly dangerous as it is the US where anywhere and everywhere you go to you could easily get robbed, shot or violently harassed and don't get me started on road ragers. That is just a completely unheard of thing down here. Everybody I run into in the markets and shops or walk past on the street smile and say "Buenas dias!" with a smile. Mucha suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!

That's 100% on point. I totally agree with you. Most people usually always find an excuse as to why they aren't doing something, or even find someone or something to blame as to why they cant do xyz.
