First and foremost, let me share that I'm feeling 100 times better than when I initially recorded this video. At that time, I was feeling both physically and mentally sick. However, I wanted this to be the first official video of the channel, because maybe there are a few of you out there who find yourselves stuck in a similar rut, desperately seeking something or someone to relate to.
By filming and releasing this video, I am reminding myself that these feelings are temporary. When you’re deep in the
“shit” of depression - or whatever else you’re going through - it feels like it’ll never end.
When I filmed this video 3 weeks ago, I had been stuck in a depression for months. But in the days following, I took action: I started therapy, I started a new medication, I got better about journaling, I got better about meditation, I started waking up earlier, and more. Sure, it wasn’t all at once, but I gradually implemented all these things after I filmed this video
The key that you need to embrace is ACTION. It can be small, it can be big, but either way, it needs to be done and it needs to be done regularly. When you’re depressed, taking small actions to feel better can eventually compound. Maybe it takes a year of compounding action to make a difference. Maybe this is a longer process for you, maybe it’s a shorter process.
Need some examples of action?
- Getting out of bed
- Taking a shower
- Cleaning your room
- Making your bed
- Making a meal for yourself
- Meditating
- Looking in the mirror and saying "I love you" (even if it feels like a lie)
- Writing down a series of things that you’re grateful for (and do your best to find at least three, even if you can’t think of anything)
- Going outside
- Going for a walk
- Going to the gym
- Calling a friend
- Doing something creative
etc, etc, etc
The examples are endless, and as you can see, they range from “big action” to “small action.”
If your situation seems beyond hopeless, there is someone ready to talk to you 24/7. Call or text 988 to get in touch with a professional counselor for emotional support.
Thank you for watching the video. Thank you for reading this. If you appreciate the video, please consider liking and subscribing. Leave a comment if you feel so inclined. I’d love to hear from you.
I’m thinking about uploading every Sunday, although, I haven’t really dedicated myself to this idea. At least 2-4 videos/month is currently the goal.
I don’t have a social media brand for this channel (yet). Until then, you can just follow me on Instagram @mattjgundrum.
Take care. Be well.
Your friend,
Matt
