Since I moved, I had not had a chance to setup my fly tying room until now. I was tying my flies out of boxes, and it was annoying. This is me setting up my room with pegboard in order to keep my tying room more organized and give me easy access to the materials.
I was lucky enough to be able to borrow my fathers camera. Its a Sony A6000, and it is a very high quality camera with great image quality. If you liked the quality of image, and want to get one of these for yourself, you can purchase it here. www.amazon.com...
I found a great deal on a bundle with 2 lenses and all the accessories you would need.
You can get pegboard at home depot for a pretty decent price. But their pegs are expensive. Here is a place you can get the pegs for cheaper. amzn.to/2o6iN1q

Wall studs... if you place the wood strips horizontally, top and bottom, they can be fastened to studs while also maintaining free pegboard holes.

Yeah, good to know, when I put them up again wherever I move to, I will try to do this.

Nice room, I am getting rid of my carpet, but I know you can't. I put a magnetic strip along one edge of my desk to keep hooks from falling into the pile.

nice thinking about the leather strip. Yeah carpet isn't ideal, but when I can one day buy my own house, my fly room will be amazing! HAHA

You could have done studs if you had wanted to by having the sheets cut into 3 panels instead of four. Just in case you ever need the studs. I like your methods. I have mine on hooks with 3 inch binder rings. It is a great system because I can put each type of dubbing on a ring by type and have all colors available and if I don't need the whole group just take one off and then easily put it back on after use. We all have our own ways. I also strip capes of the feathers and store them by size. That way I don't have to be measuring for each fly. All the best, Sean

+Sean Mooney ok I'll think about that for next time... Good thought about capes, I was thinking about getting one of those drawer systems for my capes, but I might go that rout

Good call on the assembly plus studs are impossible to find and not always on 16" centers in newer construction. Worst case drill a pilot hole and use a plastic anchor. Your stuff is so lightweight it shouldn't matter a lick. I would have done it exactly the same. And oh, by the way, maybe I will. Thinking seriously of giving fly tying a shot. It looks relaxing and another way to spend money!!
@McFlyAngler

Fly tying is relaxing for sure.

Oh gosh! I hope the screws hold in the dry wall. Dry wall anchors might have been a good idea. Takes longer and a little more complicated but I guess we'll see. Hope everything holds up OK.

+Big Papi it will, it did at the last place I lived at... I had it up for about a year with no problems

That's kewl if urea don't really have much..but I'd need every wall in my house... And some things you need air tight storage... Bugs are a real issue...
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 6 лет назад
Well I have a fair amount of material, maybe not as much as you though. But any that I don’t use often I put in a drawer.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 6 лет назад
In a drawer in some airtight containers if they are naturals, to keep the bugs out. Generally anything I hang on the wall, I use up fast enough to keep the bugs out. Also, most synthetics, you dont have to worry about bugs.

You should make a video about how you film tying flies
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 7 лет назад
Sure, I can do that... Thanks for the recommendation.

McFly Angler thanks I want to get into filming my flies
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 7 лет назад
Nice, yeah its fun. Its harder for smaller flies than the larger ones for sure.
@FlyRiderFishing
@FlyRiderFishing 6 лет назад
I do the same thing, but I'd like to give you a small recommendation: hang the long items on the bottom. this way you'll have more space on the board itself.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 6 лет назад
Yeah, I hear ya, I also had to think about what was easily accessible (im short) and therefor I put the stuff I use more often near my grasp without getting on my chair to reach. LOL But yes, in general you are correct.

Either Google French cleat or look it up here it can be handy for the next time. A inexpensive stud finder wouldn't hurt but generally there are 16 inches from the center of one to the center of the next.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 7 лет назад
+abe frohman thanks! I'll look it up, I'm in no way a construction guy, so I don't know all this. It worked though at the last place, and that was without the studs as well. But for next time I'll look it up for sure.
@abefrohman1759
@abefrohman1759 7 лет назад
No problem. Easy way to find the first stud is if there's an outlet on the wall it will be right nest to a stud. Since the majority of people are right handed it will usually be mounted on the right side of a stud. That camera of your dad's looked good but whatever you've used in earlier videos did a fine job.

It would take less than an hour to redo the job properly and probably less than $10 for materials (for new peg board, if the existing holes bothered you). The screws will go in easier if you pre-drill. Suggesting that anyone put screws (unanchored) into drywall, on the basis that you've "done it before, and they didn't fall out" is really doing a dis-service to them. It would be much better to use a pencil rather than a knife to make marks on the wall! Based on what you've learned, you should probably wither replace or take down the video. Nice collection of tying materials. If you want to get fancy you could "frame" the pegboard for a more finished appearance (since your tying room is an interior room).

So we are talking about a grand total of about 1lb hung on the wall. This video is 2 years old at least, and I’ve done it now to 3 other places about the same. Never have they fell out. I definitely wouldn’t put anything heavy on this though. But for my use it’s fine. Have a blessed day.

Like many people, I watch videos to gather knowledge and information. My point is, that in posting a video you are purporting to *teach*. With all due respect, how do you feel about "owning" a video full of "poor advice"? I suggested taking down and/or redoing the video in a manner that might help people. What if others were to follow in your footsteps and build something that may fall off the wall? Do you care? Have you learned anything since you made the video (maybe edit it)? There is nothing wrong with making a mistake--the point is to learn from it (and clean up the mess that was made). Good luck and Happy Tying! P.S. The video may be 2 years old, but I just saw it for the first time last week.

I did say everything I put on was light and not to put heavy things on. I was in no way saying “this is how you do it”. I was saying, this is how I’m doing it. Lol! Ive got a blog on my life, not a carpenters channel.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 5 лет назад
Oh btw, you can’t “edit” RU-vid videos, it’s either delete them or leave them. So, I figure people are smart enough to know when I say “I am not putting anything heavy up” they will know it’s not the best plan to put something heavy up. Lol!!!!! So no, I kinda don’t care if someone does this, then hangs their tools on the wall and it falls.
@whig475
@whig475 5 лет назад
You are rather diluting the quality of the information on RU-vid by leaving this video up. Your last comment is revealing about the way you view your relationship between you and your subscribers. Maybe it's a "millenial thing". I will unsubscribe and "go away".

That's not gonna work in a few years...you'll see. Plastic office folder boxes as base storage, with smaller boxes inside-- pull what you need for a tying session, bringing it to your table. The rest stays in your stowing area. Group your boxes: hooks box, thread box, hackle etc. You just lost a wall In your space for nothing. It looks like a store. When you start using the stuff you're going to see your method is not practical. Oh to be young....

Actually I love the system! Lol. I recently moved into an RV and had to go with the system your talking about and I hate it! Haha. Just can’t do the peg board on an RV. Ohhhh to be old and stuck in your ways. Lol
