Hi Liesl! This was definitely worth waiting for! 😊 I love that you mentioned the analogous colors. You’re right that complementary colors are mostly highlighted in watercolor and yet, just look at this glorious piece! Thanks so much for highlighting these beautiful hues. Hi Liesl, wow, wow, watching you paint this gorgeous Gladiolus was heartwarming for me today! Here in Ottawa, Canada we had a snowstorm last night continuing all day today and tomorrow. Once again Liesl you've produced an absolute beauty. I love the way that you're prepared to deviate from the botanical accuracy of the flower itself. If you want a botanically accurate picture, then just take a photograph. Thanks for the reference to the colour wheel also. I need to pay more attention to that. Love love it ❤. Recently, I have discovered I really enjoy color pencil botanicals/flowers. I’ve tried watercolor and I’m not good at it. But I’ve not practiced enough and really trying to push myself to do it more. I love the aesthetic of watercolor, but like you I’m more of tight painter than a loose one. I love realism and detail. ❤

(Although o do believe you could get the hang of watercolors with a bit of practice. 😉 It just takes a minute to get the hang of.) This was a great tutorial! 🥰 I couldn't wait after drawing the sketch (sometimes I'm impatient😮) and painted my flowers last night. I did them in the same technique and color scheme. Turned out great. I will frame and gift this one.😄

When I draw my paint, I erase and erase, and the paper became a mess.

Yes, if you draw and erase too much on watercolor paper it can sometimes damage your paper for painting. I like to draw my outline on a separate piece of printer or drawing paper that I can erase a lot with, and then when I get my drawing how I like, I trace it onto my watercolor paper very lightly with a pencil using a light table/ box or a well lit window in my house. This way I don’t have to erase very much or damage my good painting paper. I hope this helps! Take care and thanks for watching!
