It's common for people to equip themselves for the worst-case scenario:
A duty-sized, double-stack pistol with a red dot, and maybe a light.
Something that's equally at home in a Safariland holster as it is in an IWB concealment rig.
But it's interesting that that's where a lot of the gear considerations end.
But there's a lot more that can contribute to a "worst-case" scenario, including your wardrobe.

When I started doing IDPA matches this year I initially joined the fishing vest crowd. Shortly after that I realized that I should simple wear what I wear every day. I wear untucked t-shirts or polo shirts every day. Now I compete in IDPA using my every day attire. The bottom line is concealment does not need to be any different from what you wear every day.

You’ve got a good argument here. It made me think of all the comments that immediately follow any video about whether or not to carry with one in the pipe. Gun bros always jump in, ‘You might as well carry a hammer,’ or ‘If you can’t carry with one in the chamber, you shouldn’t carry at all.’ I just tested it out. I can draw and rack one in the chamber in 1.4 drawing from under a T-shirt. Trying to draw from an enigma under a dress shirt 3.2 without having the rack one in. I don’t wear dress shirts often, but now I know if I do I have a problem to solve. If you carry under clothes that restrict your access, you are introducing three dangers. 1. You slow your draw speed 2. You tie up your hands so you can’t use them to defend yourself in a close up encounter. 3. You stand a much higher chance of fumbling your draw or losing control of your firearm when you finally do manage to clear your holster and cover garment. There have to be some techniques for clearing a dress shirt. Maybe some dress shirts are better than others. This seems like a very overlooked issue in conceal carry.

Thankfully I never have to travel and my job is 100% remote, so I really can (and do) dress around the gun. I'm a Rangemaster graduate and understand nuance, so I also carry medical/oc spray. I have drawn my pistol 6 times and never fired but have used medical multiple times.

Very interesting point. I don't travel in the suit circle much anymore, more of the very casual circle, even at church. This makes me wonder how people would react if I showed up at an idpa match in a suit. Great food for thought.

The IDPA match I shot, I wore a sports jacket as my cover garment.

It's a matter of time management. How much time am I willing to dedicate to training for an edge case versus how much do I dedicate to my everyday circumstances. I've carried in a suit, but in the last decade, I might put on a jacket once a year, and a tie every two years. The two or three suits I own have been worn single-digits each. I can still do it, used to do it daily, but it's exceedingly rare for me nowadays. Hell, I barely put on closed toe shoes more than half the days of the year. My odds of getting in a gun fight while dressed in anything but "Florida Bum Formal" are so small that I'm willing to take the risk while I'm dressed up. I'm also usually drinking when I'm dressed nicely, so I'm not carrying anyway.

But you also already put in the work that you _know_ how to do it when needed
