Now that I think about it I'm always late for classes and workshops but I'm never late for hangouts...I mean I feel excited to think that I'll get to meet my friends after so long ..:P

I can relate! Maybe it's because we're both Mediators? I really *hate* criticising others or telling them the truth when I'm unhappy about them. My boss for instance is so rude by expecting me to call back within 10 minutes on the weekend (when I'm free) or telling me to stay longer although he promised I could leave earlier today. And I can't count how many times I did the most part in a group work. I am not really sure why I value their opinion more than my own. Saying "no" can be so hard! Wish you could do more advice videos like this :)

I have a friend exactly like your friend who was late to lunch today. It's one thing if it happens once in a blue moon but if it's a consistent thing then they don't really deserve your time. It's always an excuse after excuse for these people who are always late... Eventually what happens is that you just don't hang out with people like that. People who are always late and make you wait an hr and act like it's no big deal need to understand that it is a big deal... I'm glad you're NOT that kinda person.

I've told one of my friends this. She's consistently late when we make plans or completely flakes and tells me way after the fact that she can't make it. I told her it makes me feel like she doesn't respect my time, the fact that we made plans, and ultimately, that she just doesn't care enough to be on time or to even let me know that she's running late or she can't make it. She apologized and said she'll do better. She hasn't. I don't want to end our friendship, but I've come to expect her to flake and always have a plan B when we do make plans. :(

When someone shows up late I spend the vast majority of the remaining lunch/dinner/whatever doing rage management at being treated that way. The world needs more Leonard & Church watches!

Totally agree. I go out of my way to get to meetings, gatherings, etc. early. I leave extra early in case of traffic, accidents, and so forth. I may be weird by doing so but at least I am (almost) never late. People don't have to go that far but some consideration would be appreciated. We all have s#@$ going on and everyone's time is precious. Great video!

Because of the way I'm raised, I just can't stand being late. Some of my friends just don't understand the concept of being punctual and it annoys me especially when they were the one who organized the meeting and I'm always waiting for them. I don't get how they can oversleep everyday, or not expect traffic, and there's so many other excuses! One should have the mindset of like, oh I need to get there at 10 tomorrow so I have to probably wake up at 8 to get ready and leave at 9. I feel you Arden :(

I related to this video SOOO much. I've had that recently happen to me and I was so frustrated. I made plans with a friend to go grab some lunch. She let me know that she was going to be about 5-10 minutes late. No biggie. I knew she had some errands to finish off and I didn't mind. I get to the restaurant and then the waiting game began.... To cut it short (unlike my wait), I waited for an hour and 5 minutes for her ass to finally show up. During that waiting period, I would text her to ask where she was, afraid that something happened. And the answer would always be the "I'm 5 or 10 minutes away. I'm SO sorry." I checked up on her a total of 5 times before she FINALLY came. Needless to say, I was not happy. The only thing that saved her from feeling my wrath was that I was smart enough to order ahead.

I love this! I have such a complex about people who don't respect others' time. I'm so glad that you phrased it like that, because it really is the bottom line.

i'm always early or on time. i hate when people are late, even if it's for something small. it determines the attention i put into the relationship. if they don't value other people's time, i will not give them any more of mine.

I've never thought of that perspective, I'll make sure from now on to be careful about being late :)

I think when your date or friend is out on a lunch or dinner date with you and they constantly look at their cell phone... that is the rudest and annoying thing there is...

Yesss it is incredibly rude! During college, my friends & I would agree to meet at 6:30 for dinner everynight. Almost always, it's me waiting for them for a long long time because one would simply oversleep (all the time) and the other was just never punctual. At one point during my exam period, I waited so long.. I couldn't conceal the annoyance I felt anymore, it was written all over my face because my time taken away to be spent on revision was precious but they didn't respect that. Eventually I stopped going out for dinner with them lol

I relate to this so much as a punctual person. My friend and I were supposed to meet up at 6pm and I ended up waiting an 1hr 30mins at a random train station entrance. I now carry a book in my bag, so I have something to read while I wait. Another good tactic is telling the 'always late' friend a time that's 30mins- 1hr earlier than the time you actually want to meet up. BAM! they are unknowingly punctual for the first time. Haha

I know the feeling Arden..... I was an early person too & after having this kind of waiting incidents I go depending upon the person I'm meeting with..... Some are early & some are not...

I'm sometimes that person - I have to admit - but I feel awful every time. Like 10-15 minutes and I know it's not much, but still. I really want to let them know I respect their time and value the time spent together.

Oh my gosh. I have a friend who is literally late to everything! And it's not even like a recent thing she'll say she's on her way and then she'll arrive three hours later making up a ton of excuses! I actually am late most of the time with AT MOST 7 mins. But seriously it is so hard for me to stop because it's become something like a routine. And yep, I do know it's bad but at the end of the day we all have a bad side, don't you think? I may be late all the time and you may be super picky for example. We shall love ourselves and therefore others. I was going to hang out with my friend who always does things like this. Today we made plans and I waited around 40 minuets and I ended up going home. They finally replied to my texts around 20 minutes after I got home saying that they had completely forgotten. This happens almost every time I arrange to meet them.

I can totally relate to this video. I met a friend online. We literally txt and talk on the phone everyday for almost a year. She was cool and I thought I've finally met a nice friend. We were supposed to meet up in person on July 4th at a concert. We planned and confirmed it. I booked my hotel and was looking forward to meet with her at the concert. I drove 5hrs to her state and city and she flaked on me at the end. She was just having excuses after another that her car died, her siblings were being difficult and won't let her drive. So at this point I already figure it out this friend was just making excuses. I was a bit upset. By the way she's 21....She then txt that she was just 40mins away from the concert and will see me soon. 40mins went by and she said that her sister told her it's not worth it since the concert is close to being over around 12 midnight. So she asked to grab breakfast with me in the morning and I said "Okay" but when morning comes she said her siblings are cooking at home she won't be joining me... I was mad this point. She doesn't understand that it's not about eating, it's about coming out to meet me since we planned this out for months...I was so pissed at her and so I drove back home...I'm done pretty much done with her!!! I didn't answer her txt for about a week now...DONE with her!!!

okay one time i met a friend but i was 1 hour late and i felt sooo bad (i still feel bad). the thing was i overslept and i had to get the next train to meet her. she said it was fine and that is okay, but now i am thinking: was she really okay or just pretending? i mean she was probably a bit mad (but luckily i had some christmas and birthday gifts to give her, so feel a bit better). oh man, i just want to say Arden, as a person who is often late (in school mostly), we are actually so genuently sorry for our lateness. you made me aware of how fucking selfish those little things can be and i am trying to better myself now. thank you.

I AM ONE OF THE PEOPLE ALWAYS LATE! (not just for friends, for everything else too, good thing I'm a freelancer :D) But the good thing is, I'm aware I'm always late so whenever I'm meeting someone I warn them and tell them they NEED to tell me to be somewhere half an hour before I actually need to be there... And then I'm on time. Sometimes even early!

in the past, i always wait for my friends like 30-60mins. it sorta developed this invisible rule that those friends are gonna be late like an hour so i always purposely go late so i only need to 5-15 mins for them

Chronic late people do not realize it comes off as rude. They instead feel horrible about themselves for being disorganized and late again. They have reduced self esteem for having the late reputation. And some of them have genuine issues. It's almost never because they are consciously thinking their time is more valuable than others. They are thinking "this is really embarrassing and it keeps happening!"
