Who cares what people, buddies, family, friends, idiots say about riding a Can-Am. I inherited my 2018 F3 Spyder Can-Am with just 700 miles on it. I am going to ride it and take care of it. The rest of those haters, keep your 2 wheels and cut through traffic. I'll see you on the other side! This is one smoooooooth ride. My wife and I love it.

I am 76 yrs old and I sold my Indian motorcycle 3 months ago I am sad as hell because I still feel willing and super able to keep on riding, but now my wife is saying no more motorcycles because she thinks it's too dangerous on the roads. she met me and knew that I was a Biker, but now I am stuck at home doing nothing except my daily physical exercises and watching sunny days just pass me by. I feel like I am just sitting and waiting for the angel of Death. I am still full of life and I don't even have any medical issues. I am quietly saving up my money to get a Ryker Rally.

I think a certain amount of introspection regarding one's own abilities is required before making that decision. As you've noted, if you have quick enough reaction times and the ability to safely drive a car, odds are you'll be ok on a Spyder. For disabled riders like myself, Spyders are a godsend. I once had a knee injury that was bad enough that I needed a cane to walk. All I had to do was fold up the cane, put it in the side saddlebag, climb/hobble onto the Spyder, fire it up and take off. Never would have been able to do that on two wheels!

I would suggest to this guy to go to dealer and mount a Spyder to determine the degree of difficulty. How's his coordination, does he drive in traffic with some degree of comfort mentally? I'm 89, pretty good shape for the shape I'm in if you get my drift. I have had shoulder replacements, hip replacements, I have to scoot my right leg over the front seat, and dismount with a bit of body twist. Wife Millie load up and make the trip from FL to TN on occasion on the RT. So each of has to realize our limitations measured with our desire to ride. Millie joined me and we had a good laugh with you guys at the deli and the food thing. Good video CoachBob. Thanks you for the 'wave' thing, we are on the same page with that.

Haha, I believe the answer to the title of this video, lies within the title of this video. You're never too OLD to ride a Sypder, but I do plan on riding my Spyder until I'm too WEAK or too BROKEN to ride it, and I do not mind not knowing when that day will come. I will say this, 2 years ago I had no interest in retiring because I didn't really know how I was going to spend my retirement years, but that has since changed. I now know exactly how I want to spend and enjoy the years beyond my upcoming retirement. So for me, the Spyder has changed my future, and changed my life, and for that I am so thankful !!!

G'day Bob & Vic - Thank you very much for your videos - great stuff - informative and interesting. You have turned me into a You Tube Addict! I just read my note before sending it and felt a bit embarrassed and have hesitated to post it. But it's not a brag. It's to reinforce that age is only a measure of time, not a dictator of what you choose to do! you spoke about. GET ONTO THE SPYDER MATE!!! If you want to contact me here on the Sunshine Coast I'm happy to have-a-chat.... After 30 years of Harley riding through: Oz - NZ - USA and since 2013 (Age 70) Oz - NZ- USA - Canada - UK - Western Europe, (with overseas runs paused only the last two years due to covid) - last week I sadly let go my last HD Road King Special. The BIG EIGHT-0 looms next next year, luckily with no problems except a large number (haha) beside my name. Just thought it time to lessen the risk. Just rode 300K's home on the new Spyder F3 S over Mt Mee (a famous riding Mtn here in Qld) and had an absolute ball. Damp road & a bit of mist on the mountain but even pushing it a bit there was absolutely no sign of a slip or slide! Still some adrenalin, but so relaxing. So if you decide to get off your two wheels - don't just get off - get on three wheels! Keep encouraging the oldies (and the youngies) Bob & Vic. All the Best DJ (PS my wife Claire [76] apart from pillioning on the Road King for 500,000+ kilometres over 20 years, since 2013 has also travelled with me on our Harley Triglide here and overseas for over 200,000 kilometres! - some operations for her this year to get into shape to get back on!)😊

I rode the Can-Am Experience twice. Got lucky when I showed up to speak with the dealership owner but 1st had a question for the Experience leader, Tiffany. Named her because she was as instrumental as the dealership owner, Bob, in my decision to purchase a Spyder RT Limited. I signed up with the understanding i would get a Ryker. 1st the stuff that had me going 3 wheels. A fractured femur from a fellow who took me for a ride on his bumper the week between Americade in Lake George and Laconia. Took one Goose in for an oil change and dropped off the other. Still have an internally deranged right knee thanks to that. Plus a spinal cord stimulator for my back and 6 months prior, a total right hip replacement. First Bob taught me how to get on a Spyder. Get up on passenger pegs, throw leg over and sit in passenger seat. When ready, then slide down into the rider position. Genius. Tiffany absolutely would not let me ride the Ryker. Not enough suspension for me. She had me on the Sea to Sky for 2 hours. In between rides, I took the F3 for a quick spin. Liked the lower position but hated the brake pedal and the pegs. She told me about all the aftermarket stuff but cautioned me that by the time i was done, . I was within striking range of the Spyder. She figured the Sea to Sky with its special seat materials would be for me. Just sat on the RT Limited and said, sorry this one is for me, not the Sea to Sky. Bought my new Spyder RT Ltd a week later when my dealer found one for me at another dealership out of state. Have 3 Moto Guzzi, my wife and I are lifetime members of the National Moto Guzzi Owners Club but can't safely say I can ride one. The Can-Am Spyder RT Limited and the Can-Am Experience all helped the decision making for me.

I was just chatting with another rider considering buying a rather expensive bike. I'll be 60 this year and he's about my age. my reply to him is when you get older, you start to measure your life in how many riding seasons you have left. with that said, I would throw caution in the wind and purchase it. Life is short and you should try to make the best of what you have left. I whole heartily agree, if you have the motor skills, go for it. Great topic! Eric

Great topic. I think you nailed it on the head...physical and mental ability are the only factors and age is irrelevant. I sure do love seeing you two conversate in the restaurant. It is sad that people have been so influenced by advertisements and peer pressure that their brains have become branded. You see it everywhere in life, including motorbikes. Here's food for thought - when I get off my Spyder, I'm wide awake and smiling, regardless how far I've driven. I don't see too many two wheelers smiling and wide awake. Most are exhausted and sore.

I hope you don't mind me posting a long comment, this is something I wrote last year after a long ride: These are my thoughts after a 4-day ride covering 1,447 miles and 26 hours in the saddle to the 3 wheel rally in Deadwood SD. Why do I ride a Can-Am Spyder? I’ve read many of the comments on this topic. There are people that have very specific issues dealing with a physical impediment or problems brought on by aging that the Spyder platform overcomes so they can stay on the road. I think that is wonderful, but there is more to the Spyder story than just that. I am 57 years old I(now 58), healthy, and very capable of riding a two wheel motorcycle for years to come. In fact, the first two-wheeler I rode was a mini bike when I was 6. I had motorcycles up until I was 23, then I got married and we had seven children. The next thing I know 34 years had passed. I made up my mind this was going to be the year I got back on the road. I settled on a 2021 Can-Am Spyder RTL in April of 2021. There are several reasons I made the choice to go with a Spyder. 1. Luggage capacity, I want to be able to hit the road for extended periods by myself and have everything I need. The RTL has tons of capacity, I don’t think anything compares to it. 2. Comfort is important to me: I want to enjoy the ride; I don’t want to be physically beaten up from the experience. Heated seats and hand grips help extend my short riding season in Mn. (I rode 80 miles yesterday in 46 degrees) The RTL is very comfortable and smooth to ride, I love it. 3. Style means a great deal to me, I am fussy about what I wear, my appearance, what I drive, etc. I love the look of my machine. It is very classy in my opinion. 4. Something left at the end of the ride. If I ride all day battling the South Dakota winds, I want to have energy left to enjoy the evening. I rode back from Deadwood today, 570 miles total. I still feel good and am no more fatigued than if I would have driven it in a luxury car. A two-wheeler would have taken more out of me. 5. Uniqueness, I could have made another choice and became just another guy in his 50s that bought a xxxxx. You fill in the blank. I love the head turns I get when I come down the street or the young kids that come up and talk to me about my RTL. It is unique and commands attention. 6. Enjoyment, I want the experience to be fun. When I am riding I have a big grin on my face most of the time. It is plain and simple fun to ride! 7. Finally Safety: There are many things that make the Spyder platform safe, here is a short but not complete list: a. Two wheels in front make the motorcycle extremely stable to ride as well as giving it great stopping power b. The wide front end makes you much more visible and others are much more likely to see you. c. The design makes it much safer to ride in the rain than being on two wheels. d. Riding in traffic doesn’t wear you out as much because you’re not having to put your feet down in stop and go traffic. My hope is more will have the courage to take a different path

Glad to see Coach Vic out with you again and see she is doing well. Love your videos always informative. So my wife was against a bike period (due to a scare she had on a 2wheel bike many yrs ago) until she got to drive a Can am Ryker , well we took the safety course that can am offers and now we own a Spyder and love it. We plan to purchase another one so we each have one. I will say we are in our 40's we have never had a motorcycle and this thing is a blast to ride and so easy, I do believe no matter the age if you have the ability to ride jump on a Spyder you will be fine. Be safe out there all who ride. Take care Coach Bob and Vic stay healthy , eat right and be safe. May God Bless you both .

well, i don't know if this is on topic, but I have a few handicaps, not really challenging, but i have some things that the spyder has allowed me to get on the road and enjoy the "RIDE". I am 57, and i know that that isn't old, but i was in poor health, i had weight loss surgery, lost weight, starting eating better, but just getting out to enjoy the road, but was really what the spyder gave me. Freedom to take this new life i was given and live it to a fuller extent. Now I have found a brother i have never met before, and i am going to get to go meet him on my spyder!!!!

Mid 60's rider here, been on 2 wheels for 50+ of them. Health is still reasonably good so I hope/plan on riding a long time. I did invest in a Can Am RT already for 2 reasons. First I wanted to see if I would enjoy the experience and the answer is yes. Two, my other half won't ride 2 wheels anymore (just because we took a drainage ditch detour on the Tenere' on a forest dirt road courtesy of a jackwagon driver-didn't even go down but that did it for her) so if I want company on the RV/Motorcycle trips it's the Spyder. Having both options is fun and it just depends on how I feel that day as to what I ride. I know of 80+ year olds still on 2 wheels and doing well. Key to this longevity is to keep the body in the best condition possible; do the exercises that we didn't have to do when younger, eat well and get the right rest. I see so many of my peers who are already in enough decline so they can't ride anymore. Some because their body just didn't cooperate. Enjoyed the post. Ride safe.

I am 76 years old and have been riding a Spyder for 10 years. Back when they first came out around 2008, I said that a person would have to have more money than brains to buy one. in 2012 when I bought my first Spyder, my wife reminded me of my first impression on the Spyder. I gratefully admitted my mistake and have had no regrets. Over these past 10 years, I have had the joints in both hips and both shoulders replaced, but that has not deterred me. The fact that I injured my rotator cuff muscle last year was the most annoying situation to overcome. This made me realize that you need to be able to use your arms for the "push-pull" action to steer a Spyder or any other trike.

Great video. I always enjoy watching how much you enjoy life. I have a question for you. I've been really wanting to buy a couple of Spyders and take family trips on them. My only problem is that for the last 5 years I've had a dislocated hip replacement and not able to walk. I haven't been able to find a doctor willing to try to put it back in place yet. But that's a whole different story. I use a mobility scooter to get around. So my question is have you ever heard of someone pulling a scooter behind a Spyder or is it even a possibility? Thank you for your time. God bless you and your family. We've been praying for a speedy recovery for you wife.

Great video Coaches! You covered all the angles very well. And yes, the emotional factor can outweigh the physical. No matter how well anyone covers the problems with physical or age issues until it happens to you it’s almost impossible to fully grasp. BUT the Spyder gives options that are game changers. Great video. Glad to see both of you are doing good and in good health. Outstanding topics on this video. As part of the Texas Patriot Guard Riders, I ride with many Harleys but we are treated the same as everybody else. In fact sometimes the Spyders and other 3 wheelers out number the Harleys.

Great subject Bob. I have ridden all my life until I had a stroke a few years back. I survived quite well except it robbed me of my balance. I thought my biking days were over, then I saw a Spyder at the Dealer I was delivering a package to. Well I now have a 2021 F-3S and am loving it!!! Got it in November of last year so it was tuff now being able to ride all winter long! However I did get a couple rides in in November when the temps were not to bad. My last bike was a Honda Valkyrie std so I was a little nervous about spending so much on a 1330 3 cylinder. Thought it would be a disappointment after owning that land Yatch (Valkyrie) let me tell ya, no regrets!!! The Spyder is plenty powerful. I am going to get a Corbin saddle with backrest. Had one on my Valkyrie and while it’s $$$, it worth the$! The factory seat on the Honda was soft but offered no support. It’s still in my garage I’ll sell it cheep to anybody that wants one. It’s off a 1997 STD Valkyrie. LOL! Holy cow, is this a long post, or what! 🥴

@@CoachBob3 you bet sir. My brother lives in Florida. He has 2 bikes, one in Fla and one in his second home in Iowa. He should be here, as a matter in fact….now. He was bringing some stuff up to Iowa in a trailer from the Florida home. He hasn’t seen the Spyder except in pictures. He will love ridding it. Can’t wait to see him this next weekend!

Hello coach, thank you both for this video. At 71 and having 4 TIAs and having a stroke this is very helpful in making a decision for a spider. Living in Fl seeing many now riding 3 wheelers. H Ds , Gold Wings and Cam Am spiders.

Coach Bob Luvs rider Vic ;-) For anyone that didn't grow up in the midwest or Great White North, it drives and steers just like a snowmobile on wheels. I saw a sketch of an EV version. I think that has potential considering the trends.

Hey Coach, have you had any reliability issues with your Spyder, i.e. mechanical, electrical, or other ? if so, where you able to fix any of it yourself or did you have to let your dealer fix it? if dealer, how expensive was it?

Coach Bob, I enjoyed the video on the pedal commander. I noticed when you shifted you kept the throttle open. I've tried to shift my 2019 spyder f3 limited like my Harleys. Smooth and quietly. It there is always a clunk or a clank, 🤠 ..and the same with reverse...reverse is, of course, louder. I bought this in December with 2500 miles. I've told you, it's the black chrome. I'm still in Missouri caring for my son but the question, I guess, is the noise normal and do you come off the throttle when you shift. I've always rode two wheels and love my CanAm. Just curious about shifting. Please help...Robert. AKA BigOleBob
@CoachBob3
@CoachBob3 2 года назад
When you're going into first or reverse... no throttle. Once I am going though... its throttle the entire time even while shifting. Just like a paddle shift on a sports car. Great question.👍
