Zeus: "Ares, you are the most loathsome of all the Olympians!" Ares: "You're one to talk Dad. At least I don't shape-shift into animals to plow every hot lady I come across."
My boy Ares is misunderstood. Most, if not all, of the stories about him that have survived come from Athens, who clearly had serious bias towards their war goddess Athena. He loved and was loved by the Spartans and the Amazons which I find amazing
Romans: military dictatorship: mars is powerful but also humble, calculated and capable. Greeks: feminine democracy: ares is brass, brutal and foolish. The philosophy of the society’s, show in their depictions of the god of war
Agreed. Honestly, reading between the lines, I can't help but think it was probably the elite upper classes and the generals who disliked Ares. He seems to be a god of common soldiers, not generals. So I think there was likely a ton of bias. Plus, Ares had cults that only warrior women could join in certain cities, after those same women repelled attacks by invaders while their husbands were at war.
For me, one of my favorite gods is Ares. Despite all the bad things that God represents, I love his courage in combat and his intimidating way of attacking.
He wasn’t courageous though. Ares wasn’t precisely the god of war he was the god of the fog of war; the madness and mayhem of the battlefield. He was blood thirsty but not necessarily brave that was the other god of war, Athena.
Nope. She is a warrior goddess. Baal was the god of war, fertility and storms. His wife was the goddess of warfare and hunt. His daughter was the goddess of beauty and love. But still a warrior goddess
Ares save many womens from Zeus lust and heras rage by closing every way to Olympus so basically Ares saved many women's from becoming heras victims of her rage
I am not sure about that I just heard that Olympian god's and Ares had war but the gods lost but zeus did want to lose his throne so he and Ares had a deal that Olympian god's will never interfere on earth and that's why they closed every Olympus ways
They wont as its incorrect, mythical inaccuracies are generally hard to differ but in this case it was made recently from what i found in a quora post the content of which were copied into a youtube short which got viral
THe way RIordan put it in Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus: THe Blood of Olympus, Ares and Aphrodite were a perfect match for each other because Ares prepresented Hatred where and Aphrodite represent Love and they balance each other out. According to the myths though Aphrodte was married off to Hephaestus by Zeus to try and prevent conflict among the male gods after Aphrodite as Hephaestus really didn't try to attract attention to himself from her (being Hephaestus). On the side note, from their affair, Ares and Aphrodite had Phobos and Deimos (Fear and Terror) who drove Ares Chariot as he wage war from it.
I think Hera only protected Ares from being thrown off Olympus for her own reasons rather than the fact Ares was her son since we are talking about the same goddess who in some myths was the one who threw her other son Hephaestus off Olympus because of how he turn out when he was born instead of Zeus. Especially after her failed attempt to cause an uprising to dethrown Zeus since it be clear Ares wasn't the destined son to do so.
I'm just saying since the video said Zeus would throw Ares off Olympus if he wasn't Hera's son. Why would Hera cared if Zeus threw Ares off Olympus even after the failed uprising when she herself throw Hephaestus off Olympus.
@@TimaeusEXEit's more of the media portraying him as a straight up villain just for being the god of war just like with Hades just for being the god of the underworld
Can you guys do a longer version of Ares’ story with Zeus? I love the way you guys tell stories and it would be really helpful with an astrology teaching!
Ares is chaotic warfare and that's not what Spartans valued. They're a highly disciplined fighting unit and if there's chaos in their ranks then they cannot fight and win as that unit so yeah.
0:40 Now that's was a strength of God of War wear armor and helmet. Great suits like 300 Spartans. 2:23 Seriously. Athena and Ares are fighting in combat skill. 👏 Wow. That was totally amazing story of Ares The God of War. They need training hard work, strong and healthy to became a soldiers in history.
Huh and here I thought Ares was a downright malevolent god? Guess I got to choose another god capable of fitting in a villainous role other than Zeus & Poseidon. I thought the idea of Ares being a main villain in either a movie or a Tv show would be a nice break from Hades always being the bad guy in every Greek mythology movie genre.
Ares: so let me get this straight, I am hated for doing my job while my dad cheat on my mom and my mom schemes for the throne Zeus and Hera: yup It was this moment he knew his life is f**ked up
I thought Ares was older then Athena. Ares also influenced the carnages of war to b more intense, whereas Athena influenced more clever strategies to end them quicker with greater results. In another story, Thanatos was captured thus preventing deaths from happening. And so the wars no longer pleased Ares until the death god was free.
it is so funny all that Athena and Homer fans completly raging about Ares being a weakling and coward. Can you guys just leave us our version of Ares. It was a religion after all so people were believing whatever they wanted in Greek. If there was a brave warrior that prayed to Ares before battle I am pretty sure that he didn't think: "OMG hes so weak but imma pray to him anyways." And before someone says: Ares isn't worshipped much, Athena was preffered. You simply do not know. There is no historical proof that people didn't worship Ares.
Oh. I think I know which prophecy Hera is leaning toward. Before Zeus ate his first wife, Metis who was pregnant with Athena at the time, predicted that the next god born after Athena would be a male who would try to dethrone Zeus. That's why Zeus ate Metis leading to Athena being born from Zeus' head. However it turned out the god Metis predicted wasn't with her, or Hera, but with Leto out of wedlock: Apollo as he would have a part in helping Hera along with other gods try to dethrown Zeus.
Besides, number one rule about the Fates and Prophecies in Greek/Roman mythology: You can't defy the fates and you surely can't stop the prophecies from coming true. The story behind Perseus' grandfather Acrisius as well as the one on Kronos rise and fall from power is proof of that (I use Kronos as an example as proof that even immortal beings can't defy fate/destiny)
@@jessnalulila5552 Zeus probably did think of that though, or atleast thought of that /after AthenA was born, but myths said it ended up being Apollo Metis prophosized. And technically Metis was right, Hera Apollo and the other gods did manage to dethrown Zeuf for a while. Zeus was just also fated to be released and overthrow the conspirators which wasn't predicted.
Of course it helped that all the gods Hera recruited to dethrown Zeus was as power hungry and self-centered as her leading to a dispute over who should rule after Zeus was dethrowned. Giving time for those wanting to help Zeus like Hestia and Briares to free him. I think this youtube channel mention it in a video on Hestia.
Although considering Athena is a war goddess herself, I think it's safe to say the qualities of a war god/goddess Ares and Athena both have came from Zeus, especially since Athena's wisdom came from her mother Metis.
Also that Zeus was his father. Let's not forget he has a hand in raising his son, and either failed miserably or actively made things worse by emotionally abusing the boy.
Enyo was the daughter of Zeus and Hera and the twin sister of Ares, the god of war. She accompanied Ares in battle along with Phobos, Deimos and Eris. She became the goddess of war, orchestrating the destruction of cities. can you please do her
Funny how "War" stemmed from greed and jealousy even in Greek Mythology. It reminds me of our actual politicians lool. Apart from that, I love Greek Mythology, thank you for sharing this in 3 mins!
One question,Soooo... did Athena just gave up her position as the godess of war so that Ares can take her place or did something happen in between can someone kindly explain?
Zeus: alright everyone since we got two gods of war so we need to divide the position, Athena you'll be about strategy and tactics and Ares you'll be about violence and bloodlust, we good alright meeting adjure Ares: what just happened? Athena: I think father just gave us two roles for the same position Ares: oh ok.... So wanna spar? Athena: sure let's do this *Both process to spar for a few hours*
I'd like to see you do the full story of Kratos with this art in the background. As someone who loves God of War a lot, I and many others think it would be great way to carry on 2023
@@lunatic557 Like it's always the Butler who did it in a Clue-Esque Mystery. But if it isn't the butler, it's always the maid. Same deal with Hades and Ares.
Nope I am not talking about the video game there was a story I belive of olympus Or zeus coming at aries for his ways and he and his followers managed to survive it or something I am not talking abt god of war
ofc you have these channels give the main knowledge that exist about ares unfortunately little they tell ares is a god about war done of justice and righteousness. He is also the god that will remove people who are injustice to you people who are bad for you from you as well as the god of bravery to fight the injustice actually it pains me see him getting promoted as this savage brute who requires death and to bloodshed and nothing beyond this. They kind of make him look really bad.
