Depends on the community... in a small enough Forum community where you're GOING to keep running into the same people over and over again and you're both competing for the same tiny prime realestate, EVENTUALLY some kind of mutual respect or agreements happen by accident. Social Media OTOH, you're just a piss cloud in an Ocean that never bumps in to the same person twice
actually there are some mature pepole who really listens and admitt when they are wrong but mostly teenagers and little kids and old pepole act butthurt u just gotta find the right person to argue with
WhinyDogFish ok I see your point but it isn't valid due to the fuck yourself instead of fuck you'reself - people who can't come up with debates or comebacks
I deleted twitter around a month ago because of this reason. People insulting eachother for no reason, tearing everyone down. Honestly I wasn’t having a good time anymore and I left and never came back.
Story of my life. I've had times when I've spent an hour or even longer, carefully drafting a tweet, deleting and adding words to fit the character limit, rephrasing things to make them better or easier to understand, and then in the end I just delete it all, when I finally accept the sad fact that no one actually cares, and the reply I will get is most probably going to be underwhelming and the furthest thing from an actual constructive conversation.
I feel you lol. Debated a guy and it basically came down to him and I telling each other "if you dont like what I say, then fuck off." Or in simpler terms, we both did a no u
>insert gif/image of "le funny meme ex Dee drinking tea or clown" >"One for my Block list 💁💅" >"Muting this right now. Don't forget to check me le social medias and give me moneys"
What's even worse is that this social media behavior is kind of making its way into real life public discussions. People try to shut others down instead of challenging their arguments and it's highly toxic.
If I ever get into an argument online, i try to be level-headed and chill. If the other person gets toxic I just quit replying. Something people need to learn to do.
Happened to me the other day actually. I was talking to someone that was obsessed with rey and I was discussing why I thought her character sucked. After a few points, blocked. I look at his bio and it said part time star wars shill and npc. Instantly regretted not reading the bio first.
Apples I don’t get why people say social media isn’t real life. We only get one life and it’s all real, unfortunately. We don’t switch to a fake parallel universe.
Ellie H People have a persona on social media and because there isn’t an actual dialogue happening they can spout whatever they want, no matter how radical, if it gets them likes and/or retweets then it seems to be fine in their eyes. Also, in real life, people are willing to debate and have a talk well at least where I’m from, but on social media, the only time you can actually debate someone is if there are insults involved. If you do believe that social media is real life then you must have a really skewed perception of the world at large, the average person doesn't give a fuck about what Donald Trump tweets and neither do I but social media blows it out of proportion.
@@EllieUltra Of course it's not meant literally. The point is that facts about our world tend to be ridiculously inflated or distorted by vocal minorities and personalities on social media. So if you consider e.g. a given country's Twitter users, their collective opinion doesn't reflect that country's collective opinion on a given topic -- it's a simple fact of sampling bias.
@@Joseph_El-Cheikh I think a lot of people are like that, but certainly not all people. I type like I talk, which is why I don't have a name or photo that isn't me. It's all still real life, albeit with some really fake people at times.

I miss when it was used to actually call out or simply to annoy actual Boomers (as in people born within that generation) who wrote stupid or cringy shit. Now it's just another boring internet insult which people throw out in any context
Every now and then someone is getting cancelled on Twitter lol or a bunch of people who get offended easily by something quickly start a trend and don't even get me started on stan Twitter, those guys are crazy lol. It's just not worth it to be on Twitter
Lmao same I always get angry and it takes me a couple of minutes & hours to cool off and realize I got angry cuz of one random irrelevant person on social media 😂
Eldon Acharya I can’t stand stand Twitter the moment you say something they don’t wanna hear they get up in arms and go off on you I just don’t have the time for it that’s The exact reason why I left and deleted Twitter because I don’t have time for that to be honest
Twitter is just toxic as hell. Tumblr has its issues as well, but I definitely prefer that than having to go through twitter. There is just way too much hate.
Twitter in a nutshell: Ok so I did some digging on this guy’s profile. I found a tweet he posted 11 years ago. OMG it says “I like pizza”! This is racist towards burgers, tacos, and hot dogs! We should cancel him and reveal all of his personal information, thus ruining his entire internet persona and career!
CrabEdits like I suppose I get calling them out like "hey what is this" in a nice manner but not full on destroy their life. What's the point of people calling for an apology when most, if not all the time they don't accept it or say shit like "oh you are just making fucking excuses", never makes sense.
i mean depends who follows you idk why y’all all think twitter is full of toxicity i mean if toxic ppl follow you yeah you’ll get that but i mean if it’s your friends who follow you (90% of normal ppl who use twitter)
@@LefaaOW Or we could just destroy twitter... It's a shitty vestigial site that self aggrandizes and serves it's own purpose and doesn't give one jizzstain of a fuck on how it inconveniences it's users and if you don't agree with it's status quo your ass is banned... At this point i laugh at anyone who claims they are an activist when their resume is pretty much just arguing online
Just adding to this sage advice, don't argue with strangers on social media at all. RU-vid, Quora, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Reddit, blogs, internet forums, etc. It's a waste of valuable time, and it makes the world a darker, more divided place. What do you achieve from "winning" an internet argument? Nothing. You won't get paid, you won't feel better, and the other person won't listen. You will NOT change their mind. You will NOT make a positive difference in this world. What you will do is spend hours or even days just driving yourself insane while getting internet trolls to laugh at you and insult you. Just use social media to keep in touch with friends and family. That's all it's good for. If you want to debate with someone, then join a debate class. It's not that hard.
@@TheDr502 Actually, there are time when an argument with someone comes out as respectful and doesn't get nasty at the end. I have faced those kind of moments and it genuinely good when two people agree with each. But if an argument keeps going on for more than 5 back to back replies, there's a high chance that it'll get nasty, so I just block a conversation after 5 replies.
What's funny is that there are celebrities who are actually problematic and have actually done way worse stuff, but for some reason people on Twitter ignore them and instead keep trying to cancel non-problematic celebrities over petty stuff, some of them even having apologized for the seemingly problematic stuff that they may have done unintentionally in the past.
So from what you're saying Twitter hates opinions and if you just have a different opinion on the smallest thing, you get hated. Am I right or did I see your comment the incorrect way?
If we shut down debate and respectful disagreement, then our society becomes equal or worse than Communist China. It's NOT JUST immoral, it's dangerous.
Really needed this. Before using Twitter, I was sure that any arguement there wouldn’t affect me since I know most of them are pathetic, but after using Twitter for 4 months (no I barely engaged in arguements and mostly used it for art and interacting positively with fandoms and supporting content creators), I’ve become more disillusioned with what to believe. The funny thing is that while Twitter arguments are highly pathetic, you’d end up thinking twice wondering if they got a point. Really, it’s extremely stressful on my hand to see unwanted discourse on my timeline and as much as how I understand that there are some things that must be brought up or discussed, majority of it is just pointless if you fight to win an argument or shove your superiority unto others instead of trying to understand and correct each others wrongs It makes me question even more and brought me great doubt on certain people, but at the end of the day, it’s the internet so of course it’s problematic
@Spit-Shine Philly i mean that actually derived from aave (african american vernacular english) and was kind of taken over by a bunch of white girls and got claimed as “internet slang” when in reality it’s part of an actual dialect. i’m not trying to attack you i assume you didn’t know but yeah it’s just crazy bc we spoke like that not to be funny it’s just how a lot of black people spoke but yeah
This video made me a lot happier of a person. Thank you Charlie. It's been a year since my last big Twitter argument. I've said some statements here and there, but I'm a lot happier not caring about the dumb app in the first place. God I was such a loser for taking a dumb app full of dumb people so seriously.
"it's hard to win an argument against a smart person, but it's damn near impossible to win one against a stupid person". This saying just resumes what most people on social media are like.
@Ismail Enver Paşa afaik Imam Syafi'i's words was more like this: "I can win any debates with smart people, but not sure why I always losing with foolish people." I think Bill Murray took inspiration from him. Or maybe not. Who knows...
About a year ago I had a debate with a girl on Twitter. I’m a conservative and she is of the left. She DMed me and thanked me for a having a genuine conversation and discussion with her rather than resort to name calling. Long story short I’m taking a plane across the country to see her and hang out face to face next month. EDIT: just came back from my trip. Best experience of my life. She’s the most enjoyable person I’ve ever hung out with
For perspective: Twitter has 500 million users. Instagram has 1 billion Facebook has 5 billion. Think about this anytime you see a tweet with 20k+ retweets. It's not nearly as significant as it seems.
Dude I always see Instagram users who are celebs that get like 20k likes immediately after they post something while on Twitter it takes a while for them to get there
If they're being negative and name calling yeah it's funny when they get hurt for being blocked. Usually what I've seen is ppl that couldn't defend their position or got proved wrong that they ended blocking that person. In real life that's like blocking your ears and screaming out, "Lalalalala I am not listening!" That's why they laugh at that and think they won. Bc it looks as if tho you couldn't refute them. But yes, a childish name caller acting stupid, yes block them.
You should never block someone in the middle of an argument. Because it will make you look like a pussy that doesn't want to admit defeat. So if you just want to stop an argument, Just say something like "You know what, You're actually right" and then don't block the person. Just let him reply once and then you will never need to meet him again
2019 internet is where every argument ends with "okay, boomer" or "🤡", both of which basically mean "I don't like what you said and also you're a poopoo head". It is actually embarassing how people have devolved online.
no it means "I don't have an arguement so I'm gonna comment this useful internet trend that invalidates everything you said and helps me think I'm witty"
It's worse when you're talking about fandoms on Twitter. I found a meme tweet about Hazbin Hotel talking about how edgy it is, with it's swears and violence. When I made a joke about the show potentially saying the n word more than The Boondocks, people flipped their lids, because it was a bit if a stretch. So, because my Twitter account has barely any followers, and because the hate was getting alot of clout, I decided to promote my artwork. Then some guy was like how can you even promote yourself after posting stupid shit like that? What I'm trying to say is think before you comment, and If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all.
I find myself being more productive digging through Hentai artists' Twitter accounts searching up and saving every artwork they've posted than acknowledging, let alone participating in senseless Twitter arguments.
"They are contaminated; they are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern. You cannot change their minds, even if you expose them to authentic information, even if you prove that white is white and black is black you sill cannot change the basic perception and the logic of behaviour. in other words, these people, the process of demoralisation is complete and irreversible" - Yuri Bezmenov
Whilst I wish Einstein actually said that, he did in fact coin the definition of insanity we know so well from FarCry3. Doing the same thing over and over, expecting things to change. I think that could be applied to Twitter quite well.
Yesterday I was in an arguement with someone over #freemelee. He was saying that Melee should die because it's a forgotten game that no one plays. I asked him what his favorite game was and how he would feel if it was cancelled. He said it was Kingdom Hearts and that it was a different story because it would have more of a public outcry. Bitch...
Same, it took me having a panic attack, watching someone post a doxx, and someone purposely messing with peoples triggers to delete it a few days ago (and people defending pedos)
A friend of mine made a Twitter account just to make one post to never use/make Twitter. I'm so glad that I never fully completed making a Twitter account, because I needed a phone number activation, and never did it. With Twitter being the cesspool with the most easily offended and hypocritical people, definitely don't need that burden. Also I've heard it's like trying not to wake a sleeping bear/lion when trying to post on Twitter, lest you be cancelled.
@@Queen-ut1dy Why is that sad? Consider why you posted that comment, for example. Did you think it would somehow change my worldview? No, that would be very stupid -- and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. So logically then, you must have posted this comment, which disagrees with mine, for your own satisfaction. Which means that you also enjoy arguing with random people on the internet.
“You make a valid point and I seemed to miss that while typing the original post. Thank you for giving me a different perspective” show this to a Twitter user to scare them
Online arguments are generally a waste of time. Also as someone who mainly uses Instagram, I’ve noticed over the years that most arguments devolve into “you don’t know how to read”
I disagree, it's stimulates the boom boom recepters in your quadroroxicle lobes which sends it's messages to your great ancestors, who in turn, send back a response about what a loser you are and that's makes your uriocon swell which reveals a short period of intilect which begins when you start typing the to moment you respond. It's a beautiful and useful way of communicating ancient vibes 🙌🌍
I approve this. I used to do this but at the end…..it’s so stupid and useless. No one trying to understand each other. No one i mean no ONE. The topic we argue is not even…intellectual. Here is the story. I just tweet “why r the fandoms so sensitive and overprotective their idol??????” And then many ppl attack me when i literally just asking a QUESTION. LIKE BRO WHAT?????. Some ppl answer me nicely and actually make me understand why but still most……..r um. QUESTIONABLE.
Sometimes people bait in kpop fans, catfishes them to get irl meetings and just harass them violently, especially the twitter sociopathic ones that say shit like "i wish i could hurt jimin then piss on him with teahyun"
I remember ferrying a basket of laundry down the stairs and almost sprained my ankle when my leg twisted as I was going down the stairs. My leg was sore for a few days after that and I had to just put the laundry back to clean it when I was in better shape, but even that day was more productive than a Twitter argument.
When a celebrity is accused of Sexual Assault, it's heaven for the users. They get off with tearing accused celebrity down, whether it be memes, expressing their disgust. Then once the facts come out they pretend that it's made up because it doesn't fit their narrative of said celebrity being what they're accused of. They HATE the truth. They attack anybody who comes to their defense as if they committed murder.
What I'm baffled by isn't the toxic comments on Twitter, but the fact that people will just go on there and start drama and controversy completely unprovoked. Like this guy. Why would he just go on Twitter and be like "Hmmmmmmmm... what am I mad about today?"
I’ve truly lost hope in humanity. I wish people would do something better with their lives, like spending time with their loved ones or develop their skills.
The main point of debating is to convince an on-the-fence third party in your favor, not to convince the other person. People hate being wrong, so they won't change their opinions.
pezpeculiar I spend some time arguing with people who disregard space travel, or believe in chemtrails, etc. In my time doing so, I have learned so much more than I thought I ever would, and is even what got me into enjoying aerospace engineering
@@thesauciestboss4039 Yeah, I think I've learned a lot debating people and discussing topics online. I'm known as the only one that can handle being around both sides of my family (I have alt-right AND sjw people in my family, it gets crazy sometimes). I don't think I could be around them all without getting angry if I hadn't dipped my toes into the internet first.
I got in a really heated argument on twitter once, and then I had this moment as if I had taken the red pill in the Matrix and realized how absolutely stupid the argument was, and then deleted Twitter
I was arguing with some guy using facts and mathematics and the guy was like "oh the universe and reality doesn't give a shit about math". And this arguement took place under a Pokémon video, where they literally use math to program the game and he thinks he's right by not using grade school math even though "the universe doesn't give a shit". It's pretty stupid how humans cannot accept the ideas of other humans that are new, and I am being a hypocrite by saying this.
Probability of getting confused. The guy got confused 8 times and the commenter said the guy was stupid since he didn't switch out. But the Pokémon the guy was against had good AI, so the opponent would use confuse ray again and revert the odds to 50%, which is increasing the odds of confusion while simultaneously wasting a turn.
Literally the equivalent of "it's stupid because I don't understand it/ I am god, I'm the universe and it doesn't matter because my galaxy sized ego says so." Also the whole "you're using big words to sound smarter than me thing" It's not our fault they have vocabularies smaller than a grade schooler's because of their own lack of self-education.
If I ever get into an argument, I always admit if I’m not sure or probably wrong about something. Because, if I don’t, I know that the person I’m in an argument with will hold it against me.
I've admitted to being wrong a few times, surprisingly 99% of the time the person gets friendlier and we end up having an open discussion or just leaving it there Though there is that 1% of assholes, i usually just call them out on something else and head out lol
Once and a while, I watch this. I love twitter but I also hate twitter cause of the toxic arguing. Thanks for posting, it’s like a friend telling it’s not worth to engage with these type of people who thrive on arguing and being “right”.
I argue on Twitter sometimes and Charlie is 100% right. Most of the time it's not worth the effort and whoever has more followers will be deemed "the winner" of any exchange.
"Arguing with an idiot on Twitter is like playing chess with a pigeon. It'll just knock over all the pieces, shit on the board, and strut about like it's won anyway."

Just got back from scrolling through my Twitter feed. Can confirm this is all true. Any time I go on there to see what people are saying I see this sh*t. "Frustrating" doesn't even begin to describe the feeling of seeing people argue and not at all try to reach SOME understanding.....
That is the thing about twitter and other social media sites, RU-vid included. It's all about the drama. Drama gets people talking, which gets people following, which gets people upvoting... or liking... or whatever the action is. The part of Twitter you're talking about is this in it's purest form. No logic, no compromise, just dramatic bullshit that does nothing but suck the life out of you.
