Gotta love RU-vidrs like you! I have the same model and have been contemplating replacing the friction wheel (or rubber ring) because it's dried-out and cracked and provides poor traction. I've been nursing it along with repeated applications of belt dressing, but figured I'd tackle a replacement this spring. I've looked at the components closely and guessed at what has to come off, but you have so thoroughly documented the process, including wrench/socket sizes and helpful hints of things to watch out for, that I now have total confidence in ordering the parts and getting the job done. Think I'll put a little bit of grease on those pesky pins -- not only for lubrication purposes, but to help hold 'em in place during reassembly. I also appreciated your suggestion to hold the ring in place with vice grips while stretching it on, as well as the commenter who recommends soaking in very hot water beforehand. Thanks so much for the video - it's exceptionally well done and helpful. I'll have to subscribe and see if any of your others are applicable to equipment that I may have or run across in the future.
I want to thank you for this video. I knew theere had to be a way to change the friction wheel assembly. Your video saved me hrs of un-neccessary work.
sneak into the kitchen, fill a pan with water, heat the ring almost to a boil and it will go on easier, clean up your mess and sneak out!!! I did get caught once!!!
Just a heads up you can avoid all of the disassembling of the mower by just taking off the top plate and put new friction wheel on the bottom of the wheel and clamp down the handle so it pushes the bottom down to hold it on the wheel for you and take some tire spoons and pop that baby on there, takes about 1 minute to put new ring on doing that.
Does one ring work for both numbers or for the plastic one do you have to use 0154400????? I do not see an option for that number at ebay site you mentioned??????
I was having the problem it sounds like your customer was having......I changed the belt and then cleaned the Friction disc and Friction Plate with Carb cleaner sprayed on clean rag/paper towel Whole new ball game. My belt I thought looked decent but when I changed it........MAJOR DIFFERENCE. With his new friction rubber it wiil be like new!!!!!!
I have this model from 2005, starts quickly when starting the job. But every time I stop to empty the grass collection bag it's difficult to start! Any suggestions? Thank you
That's all good but a pick will take the ring off and warm water will stretch the new one on I've done it multiple times all about the warm water And a little soap if you want. Eventually I will switch my plastic model over to a steel wheel disk
