Why did they make Parham sit in place of Arjun for inaugural move? What even that means?

Exactly, Arjun's top seed too. Bit weird.
@atulbesra822
@atulbesra822 22 дня назад
It seems Arjun was away and they just needed someone seated in the chair for the ceremony of making the first move. Parham may have been a suitable choice as he was perhaps conversant with Arabic and he explained to the dignitary how to make the ceremonial first move.

I feel for Gukesh.. the way the guy was just destroyed two days ago - the 10th out of 10th - is mind boggling.. I'd never expect such a terrible game quality after his recent success in classic.. It was like he belonged to a lower league ! is there any explanation why he is so unbelievably bad in blitz and rapid ?? Is he overestimated and it renders disservice to the guy?
@rabri-ghewar
@rabri-ghewar 22 дня назад
Take analogy from cricket Lot of players are very good in test but not so well in ODI or T-20. Similarly gukesh's ratings are not that good compared to his classical games. (Disclaimer: I did not compared cricket with chess. Both are separate games with separate set of skills. I just used it as an analogy. Dont eat me.)

@@rabri-ghewar sorry, no clue about cricket and what it means so the analogy escaped me.. but if you use a dif example from chess or basketball or soccer I may have a chance

@@user-kc6wu2gc2mif I have to use soccer, lets say griezmann or coutinho to some extent.Both amazing in players for atletico and Liverpool, that flopped at Barca.The position they play in is very specific, between the lines , helped by a striker.Look at griezmann for atletico now, his performance has been fantastic again.He gets to play behind a striker in a free role.But at that Barca they used him as a winger mainly and he failed.Thats how it is.Gukesh relies a lot on calculations not on intuition(as he did not use much engines or online games growing up ).Hence what makes him mysteriously good at classical makes him weaker in blitz and rapid.Hope it makes sense
@MagicSmoke11
@MagicSmoke11 21 день назад
It's like Mr.Gavasker playing T20..😂. That doesn't make Gavasker a bad batsman.. It's just about the style. Gukesh is classical chess guy

@@miraajshah9744 no, analogy is not necessary here at all to get to the punch lines - the last 3 sentences but thanks.. I know of different types of chess players, however, I guess I'm surprised NOT with him being weaker at blitz and rapid vs classical (many are) but HOW MUCH more terrible he is at those two.. In fact, I'm trying to recall great players-calculators like Kasparov, Fabi etc and NONE of them was/is so terrible at blitz..

This is the problem with Arjun ... Unlike top GMs he mostly plays tournaments where he is top seed. In this way he will definitely boost his rating points but it will never help him improving his game.
@dhairyashah1306
@dhairyashah1306 22 дня назад
Sharjah masters is one of the premium tournament. Although he is the top seed but there are many 2700 playings including Parham,radjabov,fedoseev etc. Also he is playing open tournament without having fear of rating loss you should be appreciating rather to see the mistake. Open are actually tough for the top gms to win because 2400-2500 are actually motivated to play against them.
@shubhamsrivastava7835

@@dhairyashah1306 try to understand what I am trying to convey with my comment. It's not just about Sharjah tournament but also about previous tournaments.
@atulbesra822
@atulbesra822 22 дня назад
Getting rating points is tougher in open tournaments.. He needs to win every match and only then he earns a few elo points. In closed invitational tournaments, one can protect the ratings by simply playing draws. But unfortunately Arjun does not get invited to many closed super GM tournaments. So he plays open tournaments as he has no other option.
@dhairyashah1306
@dhairyashah1306 22 дня назад
@@shubhamsrivastava7835more he will play more he will be better. About skills he is a good player in all 3 formats. Also opens are more tough than close ones for the top seed player as they lose more points when they drew or lose. So he is playing fearless chess that's a great thing.
