Don't get me wrong, I love my Schmidt & Bender and my Steiner but with scopes like the Arken SH-4 GenII entering the market I would have a hard time spending my money on anything else, unless it had something particularly unique.

Haha. Good observation. On a calm day, deer and wild animals can hear a click at over 1,000 yds away. But in Red Dawn, maybe its too loud.

I just recieved one of these last week, ordered and it shipped the next day even though the website said 2 week backorder. It's only been to the range once so far but it is very very nice, I was also impressed with the quality of the arken mount I ordered with it. If weight is an issue this scope may not be for you, scope with their 1 piece mount is just shy of 3 pounds.

Just go and buy one or more of these scopes. I waited 5 months for my SH-4 GenII 6-24. Everything Rex said about these scopes is dead on. When I got the email from Arken saying the 4-16 was only a week backorder, I jumped on it and bought one. I'm about at the 1 week mark so I hope it ships in the next few days.

Was there a scope shade on the S&B? I didn't see one on it or the SWFA. That alone would would make a big difference when viewing towards the sun. Take the sunshade off the Arken and view towards the sun again.

Arken is a veteran owned business as I understand and the founder puts alot of time and energy into veteran support work and into our community as outdoorsmen in general. They are a startup so they have had some growing pains mostly in the time to delivery area but to me it is well worth investing in companies like arken! They seem align well with my values :)

3 weeks of waiting for my Arken and it was worth every penny. Very well built for under $500. I felt the Arken was as good or better than my Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 and Burris XTR II Rifle Scope.

Yeah I've put mine threw alot of bullshit still holds zero very well. Even on a 45-70 brushgun i had one year shooting super hot reloaded pills downrange. Love the company wish i heard of them sooner but rex actually turned me onto them in his old videos from way back when haha

I am not a fan of the illumination. If you move your head even a millimeter, the red washes to the side badly. Put new battery, still does it. I just keep that off. Other than that, decent scope.

Made in Germany.. The only time you'll regret it is the day you pay for it. Have you realized yet, comparing the washout, pointing at the sun that you had the huge shade tube on the Arken but not the Schmitt...?

Thanks for the great reviews. I bought an etr after discovering it in your reviews and have hit steel at 900 yards on my .308 using it after watching almost your entire sniper 101 series. Is it worth it to spend 3 times as much on the etr or is the glass in the arken that much better of a value?

A few observations I would like to share with you, One, and probably the most important one is the test of time. You yourself have said you can't rate a scope without putting it through the day to day year after year of use. ( I wonder what you would say about the Arken after five years of abuse ) Two, the S&B scope has a 56mm objective lens with NO sunshade on it when you pointed it towards the sun verses a 50mm objective lens WITH a sunshade on it. Finally I would agree that a $400 scope that gets you in the game has tremendous value. I own the same S&B you have and if my life depended on the two scopes there is no doubt in my mind which one I would grab, As always I do enjoy your channel.

Arken QC is crap. 2 out of 3 Arken scopes I have or had either had an issue or failed. Comparing these three is moronic and almost dangerous. Are they a very good value? Yes... But a $400 Chinese scope is not anywhere near $1,000 Japanese or $2k to $4k US or European optic.

I agree I kept thinking the Arken had the best sunshade, but, when nearly pointed directly at the sun esp. over water, there is a phenomenon called flare that is usually a bright spot on the glass that usually has a green tinge, I believe this is where premium glass coatings help a lot, the sunshade can't help flare that much you are getting light directly into the scope

Arken with 3 inch sunshade vs. S&B with no sunshade in low Sun duel. No glare? Wow, what a suprise! TRY IT AGAIN TO BE FAIR, Rex! Try it on max magnification, where its much more prominent. As of January 2023, they are now $299. Just got my second one. The combo pack is up to $211 from $169 a year ago but the scope is $100 less than a year ago. With a $170 discount on the combo pack when you buy a scope, I ended up getting the scope and combo pack for $31 less than I paid for a scope and combo pack a year ago. I use these on 22lrs and I have been very happy with my first one. Don't expect it to be any different with the second one.

It was a toss up between this and the PA Glx 4-16X50. I went with the GLx because it's almost 10oz less weight; but I did get a pair of Arken rings for it. Very happy with them.

Just got my Arken sh4 4-16 Gen 2 a couple weeks ago and have used it a few times now on my CZ 457 LRP and OMG let me tell you right now. If you are thinking about getting one just do it man. Just do it, these things are going to go up in price I will bet on it right now. They are so nice for the money it is a crime.

All 3 that I’ve had have been lemons, zoom ring didn’t magnify reticle. Super super stiff magnification ring impossible to turn even with turn lever. And lastly just noticed my sh4 gen 2 ran out of elevation and couldn’t zero at 100.

@@abikubilis4460 if you're having that much trouble, I'm guessing you don't know how to set up a scope. There's always a chance of a bad egg, but not 3. I have one with the EPR and then bought a second with the SHR reticle. Both are great with no problems. They blow all other budget scopes out of the water.

Reticle looks a little busy, under pressure I'm thinking this could become confusing or cause unnecessary issues trying to get your bullet sent. For target or non-pressure sittings it looks splendid but I prefer to keep it simple k.i.s.s logic as I've been taught right here by the master himself

Rex i hear some exiting stuff from the guys at the long ranges here in Cape Town. The scopes in question are the new Hawke Sidewinders and the relatively new Hawke Fronteirs. As to optics.....did the S&B have a sunshade?.......thr Arken had one mounted....remember? That can account for the Arken outperforming against the sun.......

This seems to be a trend. A friend of mine likes to review replica Jordan sneakers. The ones coming out of China now compared to the ones from 10 years ago are WORLDS apart. They're nearly perfect identical to legitimate pairs. I think China is spending more in R&D to replicate stuff better and undercut higher priced products significantly. 👌🏾

It's an amazing value, I bought a couple EP4s when they first came out and a new Gen 2 a while back and received it a month ago. The waiting and waiting is out of hand.. The scopes are unbelievable for the cost but when your paid in full and waiting for months and months.. They are fucking there business up

Take one out in cold weather turrets lock up solid. Glass is ok below 16 power. Bad eye relief at high power. But for the price it’s a nice scope. And their customer service is terrible. Surprised Rex likes the scope.

I have an issue with this comparison. At the 23:00 mark the Arken was looking at branches over the water which was to the right of the sun. The viewer didn't see the S&B lens. The SWFA was looking at branches in the sky which was more left and closer to the sun then of the Arken view. To be fair a fair comparison all three optics need to be seen by the viewer and the reference point needs to be the same for all three optics. How can this be an honest comparison when the test appears to favor the Arken?

I'm definitely in love with this Arken... I'm looking at getting one here in Australia and for $880 AUD delivered or ($656 USD) it seems like such a nice optic. this was a really good comparison and detailed explanation, thanks for your time and knowledge.
