Arma Reforger's progress has been slow, steady, and now it has a grand total of 1 really fun mission for my friend and I to play. Repeatedly. Forever more, at every LAN we ever host from now on.
Yes, it's a cosmic rule of first person shooters that the exact instant you stop looking away from a door you're defending, an enemy will decide to push forward while your head's turned.
@@UberPanzerhund flashback to R6 vegas 2 terrorist hunt where the game is designed to do exactly that, cover a hallway, get shot from the back door. cover the back door, get shot from the hallway. Oh the many, many deaths...
I actually can't believe how many times it happens. No matter if you hold a corner for 5 seconds, or a full minute, the enemy doesn't pop up until the millisecond you move away.
you can dual wield the pistol and compass this is the most innovative feature in Arma history next thing you know, the line splicing will actually feel natural and not "Man. 300 Meters. Back"
@@E-bk9vk just my term for how AI voice lines will combine words; they don't have fully recorded lines for every situation, so many lines are just individual words strung together. Granted, Arma 3 has multiple voice levels for AI posture (stealth whispers, combat shouts, safe/aware talking).
There is actually a way to spawn on you're friends in this game mode too, you just get to pickup a radiobackpack and bada bing you got a respawn location that moves with you as long as that player is still alive that is
My friends and I used to play insurgency modes in ARMA2 for hours and hours, but when we wanted to play together and not on a large server we would make modifications to the mode to allow faster respawns and spawns on teammates. We also had a mobile HQ that would act as a teleport point from the main base if we needed a safer spot or wanted to update gear at main. The beauty of ARMA is that you can play it how you want.
I thought you were talking about singleplayer missions - Original Operation Flashpoint's mission where it all goes wrong and (it seems) there are multiple endings to it that branch the story off always stayed on my mind, though it's a bit of a distant memory for me now since it's been many years ago. In my case I ended up stranded and alone in a forest, hunted by helicopters and squads of patrols as I had to sneak from tree line to tree line, cross open fields while trying desperately to scan for enemies in the far distance, for what felt like hours until I reached my objective.
Nothing could compare to original OFP experience. Escpecially when all was about custom cooperative missions by communities. Sometimes that could taken a several hours to complete all tasks. I still remember more than 4 hours online-coop missions with online friends, back then.
@@crome2021 The alive team have already expressed eagerness to make something like it for the new engine, but of course need to find time and preferably more game updates
i kid you not, i was watching one of your reforger videos after 6 months, when i received this notification. i was even playing ofp resistance that earlier today.
Escape from Chernarus for Arma 2 was some of the most fun my friend and I ever had in a session of this kind of game ever. Just you and a friend, settings for scaling down to that player count.. the entire goal: fight your way from a cage where the guard drops dead with a single random Loadout to loot, then try to find gear and vehicles and fight your way to the extraction on the coast which is then ambushed as you flee out to sea, with MGs on the back of boats. The patrol and base system was so cool, sneaking around taking out patrols and looting them, avoiding tanks and APC patrols
I like the option between having big battle game modes and smaller ones as well. The good thing ab arma is that it is also modable to hell and back, and there were so many mods in arma 3 from big team war modes and small team sized quick plays
my favourite thing was when we had like 8 players and we were playing KP Liberation in ArmA 3. We had american loadouts but also had some missions where we used only russian mods. We then got a helicopter to drop us off alongside but kind of far from the shore of a small town we wanted to "liberate" while we ourselves were inside of a little submarine, keeping contact with the helicopter over TFAR radio. We were equipped with swim suits, under water radios and under water guns with suppressors. Then we left the submarine and dived towards the shore still for like 10+ minutes before silently leaving the water and taking out any CSAT we came across. of course it didn't last too long until they got alerted eventually and we had a firefight that broke out of course in the end we could've done it by just having one person get close enough to trigger enemy spawns and then have one or two 30mm american freedom birds BRRRT everywhere but that's not fun
Reminds me of the mod Dynamic Recon Ops from ARMA 3 albeit not as customizable, I'm hoping this means a highly customizable dynamic small team sandbox is going to be a a flagship mode in the games to come.
The best coop i remember was Ghost Reacon Advanced Warfighter. They had custom servers with hardcore where you spawned and had to go trought a custom, linear level full of enemies and encounters to master. Took like an hour and lots of teamwork and felt quite real back then since it was not much over the top, respawns but also tactical. Its not so much about the respawning or realism simulation than the linear "queue" of encounters that was the fun of it since every 5 minutes you needed a new tactic, someone needed a revive maybe, first you were BIS but next you need a mate with a sniper and so on.
Thanks for the Reforger video, since release it disappeared from my radar. I don't think it'll grow to become a game I love, but just in case it's good to see updates.
Great video. I too have been playing this series since 01’s OPF. Some of my favorite times in this series have been times where it’s just been 2-6 players working cohesively compared to the 25+ cluster fucks.
I played this mission for about two hours solo on console a few weeks ago dying and dying again. You know what? I still had a ton of fun. The quick spawns and the smaller design really helped a lot. Also, whoever programmed that grenade launcher enemy on the top of the hill is an evil, evil person! Also, also, well done. I now have a phobia for the sound of a grenade launcher. The AI is insanely aggressive and I would like my eyes replaced with theirs because holy hell can they see a lot better than I can.
Honestly milsims NEED this kind of gameplay in their games even if its just a mission on its own or segregated from the hardcore stuff. These are video games, not real life, give people options to hardcore or funcore it.
Had countless hour of fun with arma 3 workshop missions and scenarios with friends, unfortunately the games jankiness has outlived it's fun for me to bother setting all that up these days, but arma 4 gives me hope
Arma 3 gives me a bitter taste due to the jank, Reforger is fun but my new PC is now outdated once again, and now I realize higher resolution monitors make more sense now given how more realistic games are getting so you can see targets at range easier with more pixels on screen unlike my 1080p TV from 2006 I play on.
I loved ARMA 3 but I agree, the jank degraded the experience and made me feel like I was with an abusive spouse. I enjoy a lot about the game but I was always looking for similar games without the issues, but nothing ever had the same depth and features of ARMA 3. I tried Squad but it lacked some of the features I enjoyed, such as the zoom and drawing on the map. Sometimes it was just difficult to continue enjoying the game when it's running at 6fps and the ai can easily see you through even a dense forest or maybe shoot you through a wall. Unfortunately, the jank runs deep in ARMA 3's engine. Horrible physics and getting ARMA'd, weird controls, lots of menus, atrocious performance, struggling to make things work in the editor, bad base-game ai, and many other issues. I was stuck with a game that I loved but every time I would tell it, it would just kick me in the balls. I'd be willing to forgive many of the flaws if the damned game ran at a good framerate! I'd even settle for 30fps if it was always consistent.
Fun to see that you had the very same arma reforger single player experience i had, since the servers are often still very bad. But i am more of a multiplayer guy. Tracking through the forest with a squad just to run into a machine gun position and be wiped out by a single guy, now thats the good stuff xD
For some reason I totally forgot that I watched the previous videos on 1.25x speed... ... and now I wondered why philip is so damn fast talking... oh well.. the world is fine now again.
Really excited where the arma franchise would go. I never played arma's MP but I've spent so many hours playing like ArmA 2/OA's COOP missions like "When Diplomacy Fails" and ArmA 3's Overlord. Had a really cool moment where it was a tug of war for a point in ArmA 2, and it was a sight to behold
The whole reason why I played Arma 2 and bought Arma 3 was for the small player game modes cause my friends all had different schedules. Arma 2 we would play CTI modes, but when arma 3 cane out there were the Escape scenarios, and usually it would just be me and a friend. But we'd play that one scenario for hours doing all the different bases and ways to escape. Played hundreds of times. Only ever won a handful of those times.
man this looks actually exiting, a frined and i still always comeback to old operation flashpoint, because it has this weird feel that the other arma games don't create but on lan partys we always play a few rounds last-man-standing, tarting a mission and just shoot everyone that is there
Thanks for this video. You have given me a reason to play again. Reforger was great in the first few weeks after launch and then the servers just kind of died off. I think it was a little too barebones for most people. It dies have a certain charm about it however.
I remember Lan Party where we play OF. That was the most intense gaming experience ever until I met Hell let Loose. Nevertheless. I had nightmares about it for days after the OF mission. One reason was that you were just dead and couldn't respawn. That made it a really memorable experience. I will definitely take a look at Arma Reforger. Thanks for your upgrade video.
Warning: theres literally almost no content and the server structure is still in shambles. Reforger is not even really in a playable state yet, if theres more than a few players. I wouldnt buy it if I was you and I regret I didnt refund it after 2 hours of DC'ing from matches. This comes from a life long fan, Operation Flashpoint was my first FPS ever.
@@p4nnusI’m also a lifelong fan. Been with OFP / Arma since 2001. I’m loving Reforger. I’ve not gone back to A3 since it came out. What you say is true, however, that doesn’t stop me enjoying 32 player PVP Conflict which is my favourite game mode. Yes, LOTS of improvements are needed. It’s very “basic”. But really enjoyable for me. The 1989 setting is great!
@@glennpeterson1357 For me 32 players MP, especially if its PVP, is too little for it to feel Arma. Its not very basic, its less than that. No tanks, no helicopters, no jets. No supporting elements. Its basically missing 70% of what makes Arma Arma.
@@p4nnus I don’t disagree on that at all. More content will be coming. But to say “it’s not playable”, well, sir, I humbly disagree. It’s plenty playable enough for me to not have gone back to Arma 3 in months. Some of my best Arma moments have been in Reforger. Conflict is conceptually the best Arma game mode I’ve played. It’s the perfect PVP concept for me. Don’t get me wrong, it needs a lot of improvement and BI have made some questionable choices. Servers are still problematic and 32 players isn’t enough. For me $30 was well worth it.
Considering u like playing short missions for few players have u tried the Arma 3 Apex COOP missions? I had alot of fun with them and would love to see u play them.
Ive always preferred the basic look of Arma1 and OPFlash. When Arma 3 came along with its glitzy, busy, complicated UI i was put off. I hope they keep the basic UI of Reforger, moving forward. Graphics aren't everything- out of necessity i would play Arma1 at the lowest settings, as long as the frames were smooth, i still felt part of the environment. A few clicks from booting up the game to a quick skirmish was great. Not to mention that fantastic looking green foliage! Thats my wishlist anyway. Ill definitely be checking this one out.
Nice video @2kliksphilip ! Quick question: have you switched your microphone? You sound different to me somehow. Nonetheless a great video as always. keep it up
Honestly, I have to say one thing compared to the first Arma/Operation Flashpoint game, newer Arma games lack good stories, missions and custom good community made missions etc.
Arma Reforger feels a bit arcade-y for my tastes, but obviously in the scope of what it's trying to be that's okay. I hope Arma 4 is more of a middle ground between this and Arma 3 (or even arma 2 which was my favorite in the series).
