How did you get all your little memorabilia stuff at AIT?? Did someone ship it all to you ? Just curious so for when I go after bootcamp I can some of have my stuff ☺️
This is my barracks room at my first duty station. My BCT/AIT schedule was unique because I graduated right before holiday block leave, then went to AIT after Christmas. If you're going straight to AIT from BCT like most cycle, then you can have your family send you things- your AIT Drill Sergeants will let you know what you're allowed to have.
Thanks for sharing..currently going through the process, will be taking the asvab soon. I've been a career guitarist for a while, a lot of cruise ship work..any advice? how do you like it?
Hey Abby! Your videos are dope! I did 2 years in the Air Force, and now considering joining the Army as an audio engineer for the band. The Air Force was very lax (no organized PT, formations, etc etc) and from what I’ve heard from my buddies the Army can be quite different. Could you do a video that gives a general outline of a normal duty day for a soldier in the Army Band? Duty hours? Monday thru Friday? Organized PT? These are the questions which I ponder as I process through my decision to join. Thanks in advance :)
Absolutely, that is an awesome video idea! A lot of those things will differ from band to band but I can definitely talk about my experience here with the 1AD Band. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you found my channel! I have wanted to just take a step back from posting content to educate myself and hopefully encourage others to do the same but I want to get a video up this week. Stay tuned. 🙂
Thank you for the video , it really help me out to have an idea of how our barracks will look like . Currently in F. Benning as holdover due to the covid but hope to report in mid June at F.Bliss . Just sent u a message through IG
@@robertj3833 I was in the marines from 1990 to 1994 as an Infantry Rifleman. You would not believe how much immaturity & jealousy & bigotry exists, unless you could experience it for yourself.
i went to basic training 11th of April, 1989!! we were Cavalry Scouts. supposed to go to Fort Knox, but last minute change the Army sent me to Fort Bliss Texas. i just remember how extremely HOT it was, people were dropping like flies, when training they had the "wet Bulb" out for testing humidity. i also remember the rain/Lightning storms that would follow the wind storms which always had a token tumble weed rolling across your way lol. another thing was the golf ball size hail that made our drill sgt's car look like the surface of the moon🤯 Where in PA are you from? my family lives in Scotland PA near Gettysburg. thanks for sharing 🤗
Nice job I did basic training at fort Bliss in 1982 always wanted to go back there and visit drill sergeant used to make a slow crawl in gravel there was one day when our first sergeant came in our barracks at about 4 in the morning answered most of the crap out I'm talking foot locker's air beds it was a lot different back then but when I look back at it I think everyone just spent two years in the stay safe
I shouldn't be watching this right now I'm feeling to good abt it wen I know the army finna kick my ass🤣🤣🤣🤣 all love getting my enlistment ready (11b) so yh much love
Things have changed alot I was there in 71 all we had was a dorm with all the bunks and a community shower room with multiple shower heads no such ting as private room and only place to eat was the mess hall and just to be clear I was not there for training I was permanent party.
Never made it to Bliss but I've been to Fort Jackson, Korea, Fort Riley and Germany. Most of the barracks were all pretty much the same with the exception of Korea where we had a Korean housekeeper. She would clean our rooms, wash our uniforms, and shine our boots all for 20 bucks a month. For some extra cash she would even lay out our ta50 for inspections. You don't eat in the mess hall? I was going to ask you about the mess hall and healthy food. I know it wasn't so healthy while I was in.
This looks great, I come here next week Thursday and am super excited and anxious thanks for the tour hopefully I can be as neat and squared away as you too!
Abby Weaver seriously though, I’m glad to see you getting settled-in and enjoying your digs at Fort Bliss. I’ve never seen normal on-base living quarters for Active Soldiers, so it seems better than what I would have thought. How is COVID-19 affecting things for you guys? Do you still meet for any kind of training or any rehearsals or anything? Are you allowed to go practice or is the band hall closed? Maybe you can just address these in another video :)
Abby Weaver are you on the ground floor or up higher? You could get a little grill for outside and you’d make friends with everyone in the building! That’s what we did when I was at ALC, and it was awesome.
Crazy, I went to AIT at Bliss. Never made it to permanent living quarters. After AIT I went back to Orlando as I was National Guard. Watching these videos makes me want to visit the base as a civi though just for memories. Are you still in?
@@shakurburton9358 Yes, I know it's an MOS, just didn't know what the job entailed. I'm a musician so all of my assessments were performance based. Testing will be different and tailored to each job.
Right now we’re following social distancing protocol so I don’t have a set time to be at work. I am expected to maintain a practice and workout schedule as well as take care of any business I can! I’ve been doing a lot of online work and in-processing stuff so far because I am new to this unit.
So typically single soldiers in the barracks have their food allowance (called BAS) taken from them and are expected to eat at the dining facilities on post- we have one literally right across our parking lot. But because my job sometimes interferes with the hours of the DFAC, we get to keep our BAS. I have an air fryer and an electric skillet, a kitchen would make this place too good to be true! 😂
Yeah! And let me clarify: everyone gets BAS. It’s just under $400 a month. If you live in the barracks, the post will take that money directly out of your paycheck so you’ll never actually see that $400 direct deposit into your account. So if the post is taking your BAS so that you can eat at the dining facility, you would be wasting your own base pay by buying your own groceries instead of eating at the DFAC. Does that make sense?
I haven’t actually been to the one here. But most military dining facilities will have multiple hot options and a salad bar. It’s easy to eat really healthy or really not healthy. Just depends what you fill your plate with.
