A lot of training is taking place in the enhanced Forward Presence (#eFP) in Lithuania. Not only by Dutch soldiers from the Royal Netherlands Army, but also by our #NATO partners such as the Germans, Norwegians, Czechs, Belgians and Luxembourgers.
What should you do if you fall through the ice? How can you ensure that your weapons continue to work in freezing temperatures? And why is it important to check each other for frostbite symptoms? Our Norwegian partners from #Forsvaret know the answers to those questions!
These topics are all discussed in a “Cold Weather Exercise” organized by the Norwegians. Led by Norwegian instructors, participants can experience first-hand how to keep warm when you live outdoors for a whole week. Sleeping, moving, keeping yourself and your colleagues available - and if necessary, even fighting in the snow.
Not only Dutch units participate in the training, but also other units in the @NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Lithuania. Our German colleagues from @Bundeswehr, the Czech partners of @Armáda České republiky, our Belgian colleagues from @Defensie - La Défense - Belgian Defense and the Luxembourg partners of @Lëtzebuerger Arméi are also present.
So quite multinational. And that is important - because with it we as #NATO show that #Lithuania can count on us. Together we are strong!

Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP)
The military reinforcement on NATO's eastern border includes several multinational battlegroups. NATO decided to do this after the Russian invasion of Crimea and the increasing tensions between Russia and NATO. The strength does not lie in the number of NATO soldiers but in the number of NATO countries participating in the eFP. All allies are thus sending a clear signal that they stand for NATO's collective defense task. After all, Lithuania's borders are also our borders.
