My great uncle Richard “Dick” Lucas was 17 yo when he landed in the Korean War. Within a day they were engaged in a big firefight. That was the last time he was ever seen. In April 2017 a 92yo Korean farmer found a mass POW grave. In May 2017 his remains were identified via DNA match to a cousin. November 12, 2017 he was laid to rest In Arlington Cemetery. My grandpa never spoke of his brother. I actually never knew about him until we found out. My grandpa was the older brother. During WW2 he was on the USS Perry when it struck a mine. Those men were abandoned at sea for a few days. I didn’t know about that until my grandma told me in 2012, my grandpa never talked about any of this. (Just commenting on the “big balls” statement)

I read somewhere that when this movie came out and they had a screening of the movie for the bad ass soldiers that actually stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-day a lot of them said that is was so realistic an was so spot on that it brought back there PTSD and some of em had to leave the theater bc it was so incredibly accurate the opening scene, they said it was like they were actually there filming it during the invasion..said to be so close to the real invasion.. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏✝️✝️

I remember the first time I watched Saving Private Ryan. I had to turn it off less than 2 minutes in. I couldn’t handle watching that. It tore me up thinking about having to be one of those men. They were drafted in and didn’t have much choice. I can not even imagine being one of those men storming that beach. God Bless our vets and those who sacrificed for us to be free. Thank you Lunkers for fighting for our freedom.

I'm a RAF Veteran of over a decade we did quite a lot of the battle field tours where we walked the beaches of Normandy, last one was the battle of the bulge. Humbling stuff, the d day tour we actually had a d day vet with us he was in his 90s at the time his stories were both awe inspiring and frightening he wrote to me on my first deployment to Iraq in 03 absolute gentleman. I come from a family where my parents were Army grandparents were Army Uncles and Aunts were Army so I broke the tradition by joining the RAF. I enjoyed this video.

One huge flaw with the Omaha beach scene on “Saving Private Ryan”, ammo will not travel like that very far underwater. Your chances of being killed underwater go down drastically. I’m not saying that it’s impossible, just saying that it’s improbable.

I miss my great grandad. He use to sit and tell me stories of when they landed on the beach. I could sit and listen to him tell those stories for hours. He made it so real and the way he could tell a story made it feel like you were there. Literally used to get goosebumps every time. R i p grandad, miss you! ❤

Big fan of these but, at the same time feel really guilty that Robert has to recall his personal (possibly) traumatic feelings brought back up in order to get views. Maybe a prelude saying that he finds healing (possibly therapy) in these types of videos? But looking in his eyes I personally think it hurts and is counter productive to his own personal being. The Battlefield tours are amazing myself & my dad did Holland last year and followed the route my Grandad his dad went with the 11th armoured the black bulls. Seeing some of where he went was amazing. You definitely need to do the french or dutch battlefield tours.

My dad had guard tower duty one day in Vietnam. They'd let locals work on the base (really stupid PR move, all that winning hearts and minds bullshit politicians pushed). Well, that day my dad was in the tower, a mother and her son came out of the mess, and she handed him what he thought was a lime or some kind of fruit, maybe a potato. Didn't think twice about it, not gonna make a stink about a parent stealing food for her starving child. Sadly, about 10-15 seconds later, he turned around again and say the kid run up to a group of US soldiers standing around kickin' the shit before deployment, and the kid reaches out and hands them the object. My dad realizes what it is, but before he can raise his rifle, the kid is vaporized and the soldiers shredded and blown into pieces. Another time, they killed a bunch of VC that raided the base, and their officer had a very detailed map of the base with guard patrols, communications, fuel depot, ammo depot, armory, kennel, etc. all marked. Guess what the map was drawn on? A US Army marked napkin from the mess. Vietnam was a shit show, and the war in the Middle East really pissed off my dad because he saw history repeating itself in many ways. He's only started opening up about his experiences in the Vietnam War, because he said history needs to know, and we're old enough now to understand. He'll be 76 this year, and he served in 1969-1970. I always have a ton of respect for combat veterans, even the ones who fought on the other side. It's not like war is only hell for one side, after all.

My great uncle died on that beach.from what I heard he got hit by a grenade when he was clearing a bunker.It was a friendly grenade.

In the scene where Chris Kyle shoots the kid and shoots the mom. The mom never would’ve got a chance to throw a grenade. Soon as she picked the grenade up she would’ve got shot.

My adopted grandfather was a Darby ranger, he was one of the first on the beach during D-day. Amazing man... He didn't talk about that day but he showed me pictures from when he was over there... After D-day.

Rob I was at the eye clinic at the Fort.Wayne IN Va . And there was this old veteran wearing a jacket that said Rangers. I always admired the Rangers. This guy was one of the guys who climbed pounte dehawk. And helped destroy the guns tgat were moved. What a badass,he was the greatest man i ever met. He has since passed away. We are losing these people. Really sad but makes me proud to be an American, home of the Brave. You crispy and many others.

I'd love to watch a lunkers visits the war sites of Europe. Having visited a lot of it myself, I think you'd be even more impressed by the beach landing, the sheer height of those defenses made what they did absolutely astonishing. My grandfather fought for us brits as a tank commander in several fields of battle and won medals for bravery. He actually lost the tips of three fingers jumping onto another tank in his division that was on fire due to a German flame tank, dragged the hatch up after its pinched his fingers off and saved the whole crew, burning himself badly. Please go and see it man, you'll have an even deeper respect for what those men did for us.
