Just wanted to say that I heartily agree with what you wrote in the description. Anyone reading this who hasn't seen the film should seek it out and watch it. It really is brilliant. Exactly the kind of film the industry needs more of.
This is one of the very few movies with knights that a knight didn't merely fight with his sword, but with his lance couched under the arm. I suppose not many directors would make scenes where knights fight with couched lances because it is very dangaerous and could result to great injuries on the actors/stunts.. So unambitious directors just do a fancy sword fight instead of ramming the enemies with couched lances.
very true comment, I took part in a pageant which had a jousting scene, During the first three days all the so called professional jousters (those paid and insured to do, and with the experience and skills) had all broken bones, and it was left to other riders to take up the mantel, and frankly they did a good job without injury.
It's interesting to me that this Templar, who really didn't want to be there in the first place, has gained a reputation both among his own people and among the Saracens.
He is templar that's enough! You read too much into it.Donot ever condemn the true christians of faith.leave it alone. Or pray to Yeshua for your soul .
The movie is as historically accurate as they could make it when it comes to the languages spoken. When they would have spoken an old Norse language in reality, they speak Swedish or Norwegian. When they would have spoken English, they speak English. Arabic, Arabic and so forth.
This is a brilliant film..... I would say it’s better than the Kingdom Of Heaven... and it should have had a wider release... who knows, if it was released today in 2020, it may have won the best picture award.... but curious, never knew Sweden was involved in the crusades or had Knights Templar’s....any connection with the Teutonic Knights..?..🤔🧐
They were mostly crusading in their home turf, called the Northern Crusades, or AKA, the Baltic Crusades. They mostly crusaded against Pagan Finns, Estonians, and Orthodoxy Christian Slavs, despite the shared dream of taking Jerusalem, and holding it from the Seljuk Turks, and other Arab Muslim sultanates.
Arn,an alleged Templar, wears a shield of the Teutonic Order and bears the cross of the order of christ (which did not exist yet in 1177,it was founded as a portugiese order to give the remaining templars shelter after the trials after 1312). Come on dear filmmakers - this was not that difficult to recherche...but it is nonetheless a nice popcorn movie.
@@alexptjp9569 You really need to learn how to google. "After the Pope Clement (V) banished the Templar Order, most of European countries pursued those knights, but the Kingdom of Portugal gave them shelter. So the Knights Templar that came into Portugal adopted the military Order of Christ created purposely by the King D. Diniz, and that Order adopted the cross that you saw in the movie, called the Order of Christ Cross:"
@@adarika55 Are you sure that reply was for me? First of all, I'm Portuguese. Secondly, I major in Medieval History at UC. Everything you stated is something I already know. I was clearly talking about the movie. They used the Order of Christ Cross while not being Portuguese. Plus, it's not even the correct timeline. This movie is supposed to take place in mid-12th century, and Arn is supposed to be Swedish. So the Templars in Portugal at this stime would have still be using the iconic Red Templar Cross and the Order would still be intact without a need for the remaining Templars to flee to Portugal and to change the name to 'Order of Christ'. EDIT: Nevermind, I think you wanted to reply to berni and not me. Sorry.
Excellent video, the Templars appreciate you very much, am ology is fascinating ology. We've published our Church of England ology. And it's well receive able. Thanks again.
Mounted archery did not have light effective distances like the western bows you think, especially the horse archers in the caliph army, who took the horse archery from the Turks, were long-range and point-shot horse archers. I wonder why we see 2 arrow shots like a feather in the movie: D. Turks are so good in horseback archery that Even the crusader army hosted Turkish horse archers under the name of Türkopol.
Mounted archer was an necessity among Eastern cultures especially for raids and attacks or scouting. Especially while running away from an attack or on the move of attack. The knights Templar and other orders similar to them like the Teutonics deployed many knights of their order in hopes of glory along side to be purged of sin. Like the Mongols whose also well known for their shock cavalry and mounted archery, they caused great damage to China and even westward of China then into Europe
Great scene.... but the man telling about the templars in the background fits awfully. Ruins the scene with a commentator, and even more cos of the documentary kind of voice.

PREJUDICE, LIES AND FICTIONAL. REALITY IS THAT TEMPLARS WERE CRIMINALS, MURDERERS, SAVAGE ANIMALS WHO PLUNDERED THE LAND AND TERRORIZED LOCAL POPULATION. THAT'S TRUE HISTORY. STOP GLORIFYING THEM.
