Magnificent work rooted in Armenian themes very influenced by Khachaturian but distinctly original. There is a more lyric feel to Babajanian's music than Khachaturian's but they are Armenian brothers "in the skin." It is a shame that Khachaturian's music is not played very much any more. He was a great composer and so popular during his lifetime. Babajanian's music needs to be appreciated for its drama and unique harmonic voice.
Leo Catalano -- In the grand romantic tradition (I think)...."Distinctly original," yet recalling Rakhmaninov, Prokofiev and Addinsel l BRAVO from Oaxaca !
Some music researchers even feel that the music of Babajanian has more Armenian traits than Khachaturian's. Anyway, being a composition student of the great Aram and under pressure from the control of the Communist Party, it was difficult for Arno to break from Khachaturian's influence straight away.
@@TheodoreServin okay. If you want to look at the piece proper as beginning with the entrance of the piano, then that's a valid point. I did not listen all the way to that point, I just heard the beginning orchestral measures and thought this is in C-sharp minor. Then, I went to the end and heard the conclusion, and said it ends an E Major.
