// SUMMARY //
When Arnold Schoenberg was living in Berlin (1926-33) a publisher who commissioned music for silent films asked him to compose something for their catalogue. He agreed, and the result was 'Music to Accompany a Short Film' (Begleitmusik zu einer Lichtspielszene, op. 34, 1930). They never found a film for it, but Schoenberg later said he hoped the music could be matched to one 'with a decidedly artistic orientation'. So, here's a 'music video' that fits some images to the sounds.
Schoenberg's titles for the work's three sections - 'Threatening Danger', 'Angst', 'Catastrophe' - intimate a foreboding of what was about to happen to the Jews in Nazi Germany. Photographs from Berlin in the early 1930s introduce videography of the city around 2005, with a focus on places memorialising the Holocaust. (2007)
Music performed by the Baltische Philharmonie Danzig, Vladimir Kiradjiev (on 'Relations', Extraplatte, Vienna 1997).

Much better than the Boulez performance on RU-vid.

I agree, much better. I didn't know the orchestra or conductor, but they have a great feel for this piece.
