Hey Friends! I'm back again sharing our favorite history/geography/cultural studies curriculum...Around the World with Picture Books Part 2 from Beautiful Feet Books! We fell in love with Around the World Part 1 last year and it was a no-brainer that we would continue with part 2 this year. One of the reasons I love this course so much is that it not only includes and recommends amazing picture books, but it also highlights poetry, music, art, biographies and more! We can't wait to dive into this course as it covers Europe and South America.

I'm so excited to do this with my boys!! Have to be patient, because it'll be a little while yet, haha! That's awesome that your library has some of the recommended books!

I'm chomping at the bit too, but I am going to wait until next year when my kids are 5 and 7 to start. I just bought the guides, and I have actually been able to find a lot of the required and recommended book at my local thrift store, where books are 60 cents a piece. I plan to use Around the World with Picture Books as my spine next year, and probably the year after. We are going to take it very slow and try to do all the extra things, and also add in more readings from Give Your Child the World by Jamie Martin. So I will do our math and reading lessons, and this for EVERYTHING else. I am excited to simplify, while at the same time digging deep.

Looks awesome, in a few years my daughter would love this!!! I never got to do the fun stuff with my older kids so excited to do fun stuff like this with my youngest daughter!!! She loves books but definitely not ready for chapter books!!! My older daughter is listening in and says she’s joining us when we do this!!! She’ll probably be a teenager by the time we do this unless we do it sooner now my 11 year old daughter wants to do this with her sister!!! We used to live in England and my youngest daughter’s foster mum told us Stonehenge is a pagan worship site. We discussed this with our older kids and used it as a learning opportunity!!! Horrible history books would be good for British history!!! My older daughter has the kings and queens book and other books!!!

Wow thanks for a detailed flip through. We are going through the character formation from beautiful feet books this year just to kind of get used to their format since this is my first year homeschooling (kindergarten). But I can see that the around the world studies have so many more layers. Looking forward to doing that in the coming years!

Hey! I loved this course! And so did my daughters. With moving out of state, I sold it as a set bc we had completed it. But there was one book about Mother Teresa that my young daughter asked me to read and reread. It may have been a library suggestion. Would you be able to help me out in knowing which book it was? I'd love to buy it for her. Thank you so much for your help!

How much history is included? Do the library connection books help with that? Hoping to cover WW1 and WW2 next year along with geography.
@thepracticalhomeschooler
@thepracticalhomeschooler Год назад
This is not a specific history curriculum. It is a cultural/geography/world studies program. They cover artists, musicians, authors, etc. but they don’t designate sections to things like WW1 or anything specific like that

I am hoping to try this next school year! Do you just read the library connection books or is there activities/notebooking ideas that go along with them? Do you get to them whenever they come up in the teacher guide or sprinkle them in throughout the unit?
@thepracticalhomeschooler
@thepracticalhomeschooler 2 года назад
It’s just reading the books since it’s not technically part of the lesson. But you could feel free to add that! I do a mix of both. Sometimes sprinkle throughout and sometimes do them just when they come up. It depends on the week and the unit (how much there is already to do)

We are using Around the World with Picture Books Pt 2 as well! I love France and my daughter has shown interest in the Eiffel Tower, so we decided to do Pt 2 this year and Pt 1 next year. We are starting in France, but I love the idea of having her choose which one to lesrn about next.

Are the Socratic questions asked positive and upbeat? I ask because the early American history ones were not. They were dark, heavy, & judgmental which I felt was not appropriate for k-3.
@thepracticalhomeschooler

I feel like the questions were fine and appropriate. Kind of recapping what we read.
