Wonderful review! Thank you so much! And likewise- I love finding stories that showcase strong female leads. As a mother of only boys, it’s so important to me that they see this regularly ❤️
Thank you so much for this. I have been obsessively trying to find the best history/geography curriculum and this seems to fit everything we need, and I had never heard of them before seeing them on your channel! (I was looking over Abeka level 1, My America, My World, Abeka Social Studies K5, Horizons Health, Lifepac History & Geography, Masterbooks My Story K, and probably missing some lol!) I just ordered the teacher guide and found the Maps book used. Also, per your advice to try and save money, for books I can't find at our library, we will watch read alouds on RU-vid. I was nervous to pull the trigger for next year with my (almost) 5 year old daughter because history is my least favorite subject and had no idea how I would teacher her with her 2 younger brothers (almost 3 and 1 year old) and picture books seem the best way to go so I could include them too. I also feel the same way about teaching Bible, (we do so as a family with my husband so I don't ever buy Bible curriculum,) and we will also glaze over the same thing you mentioned earlier. ;) Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful content. I feel so much better about my curriculum choices for next year. This, along with the Abeka Health, Safety, Manners 1 reader for some other social topics I wanted to cover, was my last decision I needed to make, and ALL your advice really helped! God bless! ❤
That's amazing that your library had so many options for the extra picture books! Thanks for such an in-depth video, I'm considering this for the future!
This is on my list for my younger girls!! I am so excited to start Beautiful Feet Early American Intermediate History! I think we might start reading some of the books this summer. 😍
Wow! Absolutely great review, thorough and clear. This looks perfect for my 8 year old daughter. We are in our 3rd year home educating. I didn’t do formal history/soc. Studies or geography for 1st and 2nd levels, we did workbooks that introduced the subject. I really think 5-7 year olds aren’t ready for a full on curriculum on those subjects at that age. I purposely waited for the 3rd level 8/9 yr old range to do a history. I purchased a history/Bible/geography curriculum that’s literature based, and my daughter is completely uninterested… Definitely, not yet ready for a history study, she enjoys somewhat the geography part of it. Learning about the country and placing on the map. Originally I skipped this course thinking it was too young but this sounds like my daughter, also I wanted to have Bible included… I just ordered it! Not the full set, I was able to find all the course books at my library except for one. I also purchased the Maps book through BFB. I watched all your videos on this series, did you purchased the complete set for either part or are you using most from the library? How easy have you found it using the library to do the course, if using mostly the library? Thank you! 🤎
I think it depends on your library system! Ours is really great and has had like 95% of the books recommended. But depending where you live, some libraries don’t offer a great selection. There are a lot of these read aloud on RU-vid though, I’ve found!
@@thepracticalhomeschooler thank you for replying! I found all the books except for Anno’s China, and I ordered the Maps book since it’s regularly used in both parts. And, it’s a beautiful book about maps! I can’t resist that ☺️ They might not have books that expand on biblical history for the library connections, that’s one thing I have noticed about our library here… Have you regretted not buying the complete sets with all the books or certain books? I love to have all the books of all the things. Not good or affordable or minimal. I can’t wait to start it with my girl! I feel like I have failed her with history and that she’s missing on great information and learning. I love that this can be either a full year or 1 semester because we have the time for it yet I don’t feel like it’s just 1/2 year. Thank you again for sharing this wonderful review and the do a lesson with us.💗
@@thepracticalhomeschooler wonderful! Thank you 😊 I’m really looking forward to your final review on part 2 or a mid way through review. Merry Christmas and blessings for the new year 🙏🤎
Thank you for this review!! This is what I am planning on doing this next school year for my soon to be 2nd grader. I have seen quite a few reviews on it but I love how in depth you went and gave the tip about finding books on RU-vid besides the library for the library connection. I think it's going to be perfect for us next year. It seems like my daughter, who's pre-k next year, will be able to included pretty well without getting bored of it too.
Great review! Thank you so much for this! This was super in depth and nice to see inside a specific chapter and how you use it. I am definitely interested in using this curriculum.
These look like wonderful additions to our homeschool program. Thank you for the information! One question…how long does it take you to get through one book? Thanks!
Do you mean one picture book? Or one course book? The picture books we read 1 or 2 in a day, and the course book lasted all year (we started this course a few weeks into the school year)
I believe sonlight was history Bible and literature? I didn’t need a Bible course and we’re doing our own read alouds. I was mostly drawn to the picture book aspect of it.
Great review! Did you have notebooks for the girls? Would love to see them if you did. The charter school were in requires samples so wondering how this can work. We could do narrations but wondering if there was other links or work we can show.
Their notebooks just had the pictures they painted in them (the animals, flags and maps) but you could add quotes and little blurbs about each county to…there were prompts for that
I’m not sure if you menstioned it, but was just wondering if you have used Early American History as well? I can’t decide between this one and Around the World to start soon with my soon to be 1st grader. I’m torn!
This looks so good! I might have to think about this when my son gets up to Kindergarten/Elementary age. We use Sonlight starting at Level B (2nd grade) but this might be good for K or 1. Or stretch it for two years. 🤷🏻♀️
@@thepracticalhomeschooler You absolutely made tge right choice for the ages of your kiddos. I think ECC would be great for your next geography trip in a few years.
Thank you for a wonderful review. You really showed us the curriculum contains and made me a believer! I wasn’t too sure before but I love this! Have you used this with children older than k-3rd grade? Thanks!
That’s awesome! So cool! Yes, my oldest was in 4th grade and loved it (you could always add chapter books that are related to a country they are interested in to add a little more depth). She’s going into 5th and we’re still using the part 2 for next year!
We tried doing the Early American History this year, and only made it through 9 lessons. The curriculum is wonderful, but I failed it lol. I just could stay consistent with it. I hope to try again when my kids are a bit older.
It’s very flexible (which I love but I know is not for everyone). Depending on if you add the extra books, you could do it daily, which is what we did. But otherwise, just 2-3 times a week.
This looks amazing. I wish they sold just the lesson book...I’ve got a huge collection of books (my obsession lol) so I wouldn’t need most of the books they have in the included pack. Bummed!
Thank you so much! I meant the course book. So would you recommend purchasing one course book for the school year? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions:)
It says something one the website of 2 lessons per week will be a year and 4 lessons per week will be half a year. We extended it to one year since we added the library resources
This looks amazing!! I would love to do this, but our library is terrible and has so few good books. They have all of the junk books, but none of the good literature that you find on the book lists. 😔
I’m so excited for my girls to be old enough for this. I am thinking of doing it in first grade, is it age appropriate for that grade? Or can it be easily tailored?
Absolutely! Some of the books might be a smidge over their head but the good majority will be perfect for that age. All 3 of my girls (kinder, 2nd and 4th) were captivated by all of the books
Curious about the BF Notebook. I think I saw your girls used regular composition books not the BF branded book in another video? Do you have any insight on if their notebooks are beneficial? I intend on getting almost all of the books from our wonderful library system (🙌 for living in Pittsburgh, thank you Andrew Carnegie!)
Love Pittsburgh!! My dad is from there ❤️ I just chose 3 similar notebooks. I believe the notebooks from BF are just plain notebooks too. They don’t have content or prompts in them
I’m interested to know what you think about this curriculum for older children too Lauren! My oldest is 12 years old (my age range is K-grade 8). Thanks so much! I as the teacher would be so excited about it!!! Looks so rich.
No meat pies for the Aussie cuisine - it's not a complete look at Australia if it doesn't include meat pies. We are Aussie homeschoolers and I include an update on our "great Australian pie hunt" at reporting time each year where we rate pies on our educational travel adventures.
Sorry, I forgot to ask my question! 😅 why did you choose Around the World Part 1 as opposed to character building or early American history first? Just asking since my daughter is doing kindergarten level work at the moment and I plan on doing most if not all of them if I can. Thanks again!
We had done American history the year before and they wanted something different. For the character, I feel like I add that in other areas so I didn’t get a whole curriculum. They also love to pretend they travel around the world to different areas, and this seemed to match that enthusiasm for learning about/visiting other countries
Do you have the list of library suggestions for this curriculum? I just purchased around the world part 1 on FB marketplace and I didn’t realize I should have checked the booklist to see if my library has the additional resources. If you have that list I’d love to see if my local library carries them!
Absolutely! This is 70 lessons (but can be expanded depending on if you check out library books), and it looks like the teaching character is 14 lessons.
